I recently painted a separate concrete patio slab with Valspar Neutral Base Semi-transparent Exterior Wood Stain and Sealer. Can I use Cool there after doing Tripple Crown? My main concern is the pool area that had KoolDeck applied 11 years ago. There are a bunch of small chips where chairs chipped the KoolDeck. Maybe some are a little bigger than a half-dollar coin. Would they need to be repaired or will your product just fill in those spots? Also, do I tape the expansion joint strips that run between the sections of the KoolDeck?
I have a question I did my pull with your cool back. It came out nice but my wife hates the color I did. The first color hated it, so we changed it. Now the second color she hates. What can I do now?
So when applying over an old deck would it be necessary to grind down the surface as you would when applying new epoxy coating over an old epoxy coating?
Not always . If a previous treatment is already failing and too far gone, yes. But it’s more common to have something that needs minor repairs and a thorough washing. It all depends, but demolition / removal is not always necessary. Thanks!!!
I live in Florida. A popular thing here years ago was a pebble finish over concrete mostly brown pebbles. Really ugly but likely expensive stuff. Do you know if your product will work on that type surface?
We have gotten four estimates to repair and redo our cool decking. Two companies state sealer and/or moisture barrier is not needed. Is it required or highly recommended and why.
Hey Kathi, if you’re getting estimates for a new concrete slab pour, moisture barriers (plastic sheeting between soil and slab) are more necessary in certain areas of the country . If you’re near the water table (much of Florida) , it’s almost necessary. Moisture barrier sheeting (visqueen) is also inexpensive. If you plan on top-coating the concrete with a paint/coating product, visqueen is a “no-brainer” as it serves as peace of mind.. If the concrete is going to remain bare and/or only see penetrating products (stains, sealers) , visqueen is not as necessary. If you’ve decided on COOL!, and have the chance to install a moisture barrier before the pour, I’d highly recommend it! Like I said, peace of mind. Watch my other videos RE: “beware of bad concrete” and “the 5 things that will wreck your project”. Thanks! And call us anytime (888) 776 2242

I’ve seen both resurfaced with COOL. Prep is everything , especially on previous oil based stains or paints. If they are aged and beat down by the elements, that plays into your favor . Triple crown cleaner will be imperative during prep . However, if the paint/ coating is delaminating across the majority of the deck, a full removal may be required , however if it is solid and bonded , triple crown + pressure washing is usually sufficient . If you have a special circumstance please call us to discuss in detail. Thanks !!!!! (888) 776 2242
Brian, Triple Crown will hurt tile, glass, vegetation and aluminum... so try to protect these surfaces before applying triple crown and be cognizant of your drainage zones. Rinse, rinse, and rinse again!
You don’t HAVE to grind down the aggregate, but it will show the contours of the pebbles after coating it with COOL. Therefore you’ll be able to tell a difference from the agg vs. bare concrete.
My next video is all about resurfacing exposed aggregate so keep an eye out. I can’t find an agg deck locally so I made my own in a 2’x3’ box using clear epoxy and embedding small river rock in it . Pretty cool. Thanks!!!
We currently have H and C Concrete Stain on concrete around our pool. We are looking for something to make the concrete cool. Can we use your product over what we currently have on it?
Yes indeed. Our Triple Crown cleaner and a good pressure washing will be imperative, but we deal with this all the time. When did you apply the stain? When the time comes, feel free to give me a call to discuss the project in detail and I’ll save you as much money as I can! Have your square footage handy and I’ll tell you exactly how much material you’ll need, and ship it at no charge. Thanks! (888) 776-2242
We are doing COOL decking around our pool on existing concrete. Our contractor is doing a 2 color treatment and my wife and I are having a hard time trying to come up with a color scheme. We are also resurfacing the pool with a Pebble Tex type treatment. We have looked at the paint store, but wondered if you have samples that could give us some more ideas of paint combinations. Our contractor has given us a couple of your samples, but we wondered if we could see more. We are in Kennesaw, GA and realize that you are somewhat close. Is that possible?
I'm assuming just use a brush for the breaks in the concrete? Not sure what that is exactly called, they are put in by the contractor so they look like "squares" basically.
Realist yes , brush them out during your “cut in” phase. Try not to puddle the product into the saw cuts or expansion joints . Keep a brush nearby so you can brush any accumulation you might see during the “rolling” phase , first and second coats. Thanks ! Email pictures to me if you want : jeffjr@encorecoatings.com
Adding to my comment, it is very slippery after following all directions, my daughter actually slipped and fell from just walking... is there something I can do to make it less slippery?? Some type of spray?? Plus it actually is pretty hot as well..
Curious what your suggestion would be. I'd hate to have to do double the work. The whole point of getting this product is for the non slip and heat reduction.
@@chrisperez2264 Chris, our product has been tested by third party labs for coefficient of friction, ASTM.
