Thanks for another diligent review, Ray! We dig your attention to detail and are always listening to the valuable feedback that you and your community provide 🤙🔋
You used to sell a battery bac pack. That was the answer. This "improved" battery is better than the old battery, but not even close to what an outboard extra battery can provide. Eliminating that was full on stupid. I don't want to change batteries in a snowstorm. Now I have no choice.
How about offering similar batteries for older models like Hero 8? I used to have Hero 7 that was fine in cold weather for most of the time, I had that thing all day in my helmet while skiing downhill all day. I had 2 batteries that lasted in the cold most of the time even in -15c to -20c. Now I have hero 8 and that dies in 5-15 minutes depending of the weather. Even if I have it on my backpack and not in my helmet, you take it out and it dies in minutes.
Duuuude. Historically I've had nothing but headaches with GoPro's skiing and ice climbing. Pretty excited to give these a try. Thanks for the in-depth info!
This Enduro is the battery that should have been provided as standard battery for the Hero 10. Thank you for your test. Ordered one. Especially important for activities in the ocean, where you can not safely change a battery

I have been following your content for many years now and I come back because your if I really want to know how a product performs your content is not only the most relevant for me but your channel also has become the most trustworthy source. In this case I am excited to try these batteries as my GoPros keep dying withing seconds during moderatly cold temperatures when I ride my motorcycle. Ordered the enduro battery this morning as I needed one anyway. Glad the results stack up with the claims. Price in the UK is the same as the standard battery at £25 without subscription. £20 with. No-brainer to go for the enduro really. Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work.
Valuable info, but one important variable is missing: the stress caused by GoPro's real-time stabilization would have an impact on battery life, too. This would be especially true in "boost" stabilization mode. Not to say that difference in runtime between the old and new battery would be farther apart, but the total runtime would not be as long as the tests suggest. On a side note, stabilization would also impact how hot the GoPro gets.
Ray, I loved your video. Not only was it really helpful as always (I am a subscriber). I loved the Cameo surprise appearance of your daughter!!! Perfect!
Thank you for this review & not cutting out your daughter’s interruption. I use my GoPro for diving in the Atlantic off South Florida. Water temps in the summer are just above the operating range of this new battery. Can you heat test in the supersuit when you are testing the overheating with the new battery? Looking forward to that next video.
Always the first source for content on GPS/power meters/action cams! Eagerly anticipating the overheat video. I am amazed that you manage to publish comprehensive video content AND still put out your exceptional web articles. Love that you left the invasion footage in : )
Wonderful you left in what normally would be an out take with your daughter. I'm a dad and thought it was super cute. And oh, yeah, almost forgot, thanks for the great in depth testing on the batteries!
Great review of the new Enduro battery against the standard battery. Your testing shows it’s probably wise to spend the extra money and get the Enduro battery. If if you don’t live in a very cold climate.
I bought Hero 10 last week and shot about 15 mins of footage and it was on stand by for 10 mins before that. Had only 53% of battery left after that at -15 celsius. The old Hero battery i had (not the original but the budget version) lasted about 2-3 hours in same kind of weather recording 720p60fps non stop.
Just ordered one, I make videos running complete matches of sometimes more than an hour with a headcam at 5.3k 30fps, so the percentage increase is a big plus for me! 😄 Thnx for the video!
@@Dcrainmaker I'm not on the highest budget, just ordered a max lens mod for the selfiecam (hero 9), now this for the headcam (hero 10), trying them both out for the running video next weekend, hope it helps!
Thanks for taking the time to post this video. Especially thanks for leaving your daughter's interruptions in. To me, those interruptions make it "real". She's WAY more important than any video you happen to be shooting.
Exactly what I was looking for. Especially the test where you leave them overnight in the freezer and start them already cold! Thank you. Gonna buy a bunch of these batteries.
Thanks for the review! would have missed this release without you! So it took only a year and new product to make hero9 usable during winter or skydiving 😅
Exactly the test I was looking for, since I'm skiing. I have it in my pocket mostly until I want to use it. And sometimes I have it on my helmet or on the skistick, then i'ts too cold to start directly mostly. I have to buy the new batteries and test this winter.
Thanks for clearing up the battery charging time. Opened new Hero 10 w duel charger came w two dead batteries. Duel charger was still on yellow after 3 hours. Eeek! Just ordered Enduro and will charge one at a time.
Yeah, I've also noticed that the dual charger really waits till the absolute last itty bit, which, takes forever. Meaning, it could be ready like 15-20 mins early at 97%.
Great review as always, love your testing methology and diligence. Love the cameo appearance also. Excellent, and good for GoPro too as I just purchased max lens mod and these batteries based on your reviews. Thanks.
Thank you for the valuable testing. My son races cyclo-cross and his races are 1 hour long, so I've not been able to capture a full race. Now I can, so I have ordered 2 batteries (front and rear cameras). Loved the cameo and I'm impressed you didn't cut it :--)
My biggest gripe with my 9 is when it gets "cold" and I mean 45* and below, it will be very hit-and-miss if it wants to show up and work :) good to know that the Enduro batteries will help in that department! The "fast-charger" feels more like it is convenient for charging outside the camera and less for actually yeeting electrons in faster. Which in a way makes sense since you can only charge a battery so fast, and safely. I think I will get an enduro for my 9 based on your results! Thanks for running the tests!
Seems strange that the cold performance is better than the room temp performance. Guessing that indicates that there's an internal heat management issue that impacts battery performance?
Yeah, I’m general the cooler the better. As my overheating test sets showed, the more airflow the less the camera has to work. There’s also the battery management options i previewed there, which would help significantly in a static environment.
@@Dcrainmaker On second thought, given that there's no difference in 1080p workloads, it seems likely that "Enduro" means "better thermal isolation" in GoPro.
I’ll be ordering 2 of these, thank you for confirming they’re legit. I was in a situation 2 weeks ago where my hero 9 kept shutting off in 12° wind chills.
I don't know what impresses me more, the batteries or all that Ben & Jerry's. Of course I got a couple of the regular batteries just before the enduro version was announced.
Great video like the test but I hope your test in the future will have the cameras mounted. When the mount tips are down it helps to displace heat making them last longer. So you will actually get longer recordings times.
Yeah, usually I do, though sadly I had gone home for the long weekend and somehow didn’t have enough of the mounts around to make them equal. Though inversely there would be a heat dissipation effect on the cold surface, pulling it away too.
i still have the hero 7 black and i love it, reasin i have not upgraded is the fact that ive seen and allso heard bad things about hero 8,9,10 so for those reasons i will not buy anymore gopros, plus the prices are ridiculas.
Thanks again. I hate the cold, don't do any kind of winter sports and try to avoid winter activities of any sort :) but was interested if the Enduro would be worth getting for warm weather activities, I agree, for $5 more, kind of a no brainer :)
Ok, so the battery works good in cold weather and when temperatures are mild in the 70's, but what about for the large percentage of us that live in parts of the county where we regularly see ambient summer temperatures of 90 to 100 degrees?
Definitely need these. Stupid regular battery wouldn’t last longer then 5 min at -5c snowmobiling. Nothing worse than finding an amazing untouchable zone and go to turn the camera on and denied because “too cold”. Unfortunately GoPro website won’t let me buy the batteries 😡
If they provided this as a standard battery and made this the only battery for go pro and remove the other one from even being made and up the minimum standard they would have made everyone really happy and made the go pro have alot less issues.. I mean yeah not everyone is going out in super hot or super cold temperatures but having the go pro turn on after staying in the freezer is just another bonus of durability
I wonder what changed? Battery chemistry (carbon/graphite/whatever magic) or special casing to keep the cold away (but wouldn't that be detrimental in terms of overheating?) or did they "simply" change the way they build these "bad boys" so it's somehow better? Interesting updates about charging too
or maybe the second option tuned to a sweet spot so that it's isolated better from the outside environment, but the additional overheating from the isolation doesn't affect it much. But it wouldn't explain the increased charging speed. The standalone charger having a 9% increase suggests the battery is able to take the charge better, not a mere "driver upgrade" (I guess that's where the additional 4% comes from though)
Hi. I'm a newbie to this gopro stuff... just got a hero10 last week... we live in Florida so the weather is always hot. Would this battery be better even for the hotter climates?
What are the differences in batterry performance for hotter weather? and humidity? Thanks for the info. Do you know if this battery performs better or worse during warmer temperatures (like in summer) when compared to the normal battery? It's cool that your little one let you finish what you are doing, unlike mine!
That testing will be next, as part of my full overheating Part 2 video. So basically, in that video I'll ramp up the temps and find out how things handle. My guess though, given it handles better in spring weather, is that'll handle solidly there too.
@@Dcrainmaker thanks! Looking forward! For my application (cockpit video recording), there would not be much air flow. If this works, I might upgrade to h9 or h10.
Will this batterie be better in warm weather? Or the same or worse? Because i was about to buy batteries. And what about overheating, wich should i buy for hero 10m
Yup, it works longer. I show the 'normal' temps, but in my overheating follow-up video I'll also do some hot-weather simulation testing like I did previously (e.g. 100*F). Check out my previous overheating video for the limitations then, but know that now things have changed (for the better) pretty dramatically if you fall into those previous edge cases.
