- How can a car that is 10 years old, hold its value so damn well? Because that car is perfect, thats how. Today, I found myself in a slightly modified 2005 Subaru STi! Delivering just 30 horsepower and torque over stock numbers, I couldn't ask for anything more.

Hate lag all you want, when I owned one of these a few years back it would scare the shit out of passengers when the rush hits between 3500-4000rpm. Super old fashioned boost.

there werent that many colors for the sti. i think black, white, silver, and blue. personally im kind of tired of seeing blue wrx/sti even though it nis a nice looking color. my friend had a silver 2004 sti which was sreally nice. id probably get a white one though

Work hard, and stay dedicated. You will own a boosted car! My son would always dream of owning an STi, he worked hard stayrd dedicated, saved money. And now he owns a 2001 Subaru GC8 with a Version 3/4 STi swap, full turbo back exhaust, TD06 turbo swap, unequal headers, and custom radiator. He has done all the mods himself. just work hard for it, and your dream will come true.

Man I saw one at around 40k miles too for like 7000$ the other day but the owner didn't reply so I'm guessing it was sold already :/

I own a 2005 Prodrive Sti, 2,0l DCCD. As far as I can tell, under steer is noticeable, BUT this is not the limit of the car by far! You can throw the rear into corners like nothing, if you get used to it. I'm glad i made the decision to buy this car. 💙
Love my white 05 STi. Hopefully I'm able to keep this car for a VERY long time. What I love about it is if you've driven the newer STis (08+) they are more refined vs the GD's (04-07). The only way I can describe it is the GD's feel more raw. Not only mechanically but visually as well. The wing is bigger, the hood scoop is bigger, there is more cabin noise, etc.
It'll never be the fastest car, but it's exceptional in just about every aspect of driving.

Correct, I frequently find them making out with other bugeyes. It's like, why can't they just find a nice Forester and settle down like normal Subarus? Why do bugeyes always have to make out with other bugeyes? So gay.

i have always been an sit guy from the start and always wanted one for like 7 years and i finally got one, but this video helped me so much with reassurance over the evo!
I'm always impressed by how well the chassis is built. The older gen chassis of 2001 and previous? Not so much. The very old stuff was a ton more flexy, has more rattles, lower grade interior(although still durable), and just feels quite dated in the modern age. However, once the next gen came in for 2002, the chassis was a good enough leap forward to still feel normal in the modern age, and that's quite a feat. The interior had to play catch up a little, but once they did, these old cars have been remarkably timeless. That goes to show what a good rally program (not so much WRX but Group N) can offer a manufacturer when their chassis has to work well in motorsports. You end up with something far better than needed and something that holds up for many years.
I've got a 2004 Forester XT personally (think 90% an Impreza chassis, basically a glorified Impreza wagon with taller struts and a 1" subframe lift), and it still feels new, nothing's worn, and I've had zero failures of any components. It's heavily modded with a built engine, big turbo, sipping on corn juice, STI 6-speed swap, and suspension, and talking seats I'm running the JDM version 7 STI Spec-C seats (long name) and the only all black STI seats that exist that aren't Recaro branded. They hold nice. The closest modern car I've sat in that feels close to them for fitment is the new C7 Corvette. That's about the same general snugness. The seats have been one of my favorite investments and surprisingly not very expensive ($800 for a pair shipped from Japan). That beats buying one Recaro for $1k and then another $150 for rails to make it fit. Then if you want a second seat, double that. I've done weekend long road trips with about 15 hours of seat time in two days, and I was perfectly comfortable the whole time. I've autocrossed and rallycrossed the thing for a few years on top of 130,000 accumulated miles, and it still has no squeaks or rattles. It still feels like a solid, brand new car. I live in the snow belt, and this thing's been used every winter (+10 years). It has no rust anywhere. Subaru rubberizes the underside of the car, the wheel wells, and the bottom inside of the doors to prevent any, so the chassis still looks great even with salt and copious neglect.
They're just good, solid cars, and that generation has remarkably timeless styling. I had an old couple get out of their brand new 2014 Subaru Outback they recently bought at the time, walk to me when I parked my car, and asked what new model it was. They had no clue the car was a decade old. They thought it was as new as their 2014 and just didn't know what model it was, lol.
Well, that's enough blowing sunshine up Subaru's ass for one day.
2005 is my fav. year WRX/STI.
04 is better, Only difference is the 04 is Slightly Lighter then the 05

I have owned a 2006 sti for the past couple months now and am in love. yes I contemplate daily trading it in for a 2016 limited but I just love the old fashioned race car feel. simple interior, light weight and boost. best car I've owned minus the usual 75k issues.

This Subie will be a classic for the STI. If you have one in good shape, keep it. I love it 10 years ago and I still love it Today.
Good review. I bought it new in 2005 and Cobb Stage 2'd it a year later and had it dyno tuned. 10 years later it's still a blast and I really never get tired of the boxer rumble and low end torque with turbo sounds. Let's not forget that back in 05 this car was hitting 0-60 in 4.5 secs and running low 13's stock with great handing as well. Still on original clutch despite a lot of aggressive driving (I don't track the car). Only prob I had recently was crack in radiator that I replaced at 120k miles. Replaced one set of brake pads since I bought it and is due for another set along with rotors for next maintenance.
I'm sure I'm somewhat biased, but I think overall the 04-05 were the best looking and among the quickest because of the lower weight. I chose this car over an Evo of the same year for 4 solid reasons. Torquey engine, Beefy 6-speed, Boxer engine, Subaru reliability and build quality. Never looked back...

Someone should tell him he can get a headlight restoration kit for like $25. I used it on my 04 STI and it helps SO much. Looks much cleaner.
Take your headlights out and paint the bezels i side the lens black and while you're at it DONT TOUCH THE INSIDE OF THE LENS. And clean/buff the outiside only. Makes em shine so bright!

He's so right about the gearbox when it comes to subies. My old wrx had a short throw in it and it was perfect I could tell every gear, my current one is all stock and when I first go the car it was a little weird not knowing what gear I was heading into.
I agree 100% TJ! My Hawkeye was built in late '05, so it also is exactly 10 yrs old. I drive it everyday & I never feel like the car is outdated. Like you said, the area where it shows it age is mostly the interior, because it doesn't have all the latest gadgets & there is really no sound deadening to speak of. But I wouldn't still have my car if I didn't feel it was worth it.

Just got my 2004 WRB back on the road since being down since 2008. Wrenching on it after taking it home from a shop that had it hostage for 2 yrs. New case halves, Manley turbo tuff I-beam rods, JE FSR 99.5 forged pistons upgraded wrist pins, upgraded Supertech valve train, minor port bowl blend by Tom @ Portflow, Brian Crower AVCS 272 cams, Full Race twinscroll headers and up pipe, Borg Warner 8374 EFR twinscroll turbo, dual Tial 38mm MV-S ewg, JDM long runner Spec C manifold reverse mount w/ Full Race reverse manifold ic piping, AMR 5" thick core fmic, 2000cc Fuel injector Development, AEM series 2 stand alone with flex fuel, Shawn Church tuned to 550 awhp on E85.

This is the car I’m really wanting and planning on making a move soon. Yeah like you said it’s hard to find them under $20k now days, the one I’m looking at is $19,500 with a lot of performance mods and is in really good condition. I’m pretty hyped. I’m also only 20.

Everyone loves to talk shit about the Sti/Subarus but why do they ignore the fact that in a crash they're one of the safest cars with the boxster engine. A head on atleast/frontal crash, because the engine won't come back at you it literally drops down below the cabin.. Like ? yet no one likes to mention that LMAO.

as a wrx owner i agree 100% that when you first start driving it its hard to tell what gear your going into till you get used to it.. took me about 3 days to get used to it and the second time driving it i accidentally shifted into 2nd instead of 4th.
Cameron_07wrx I can safely say as a WRX sti owner that yes, the gearboxes are so hard to get used to 😂especially if your going between a normal day to day car with and ash gearbox then occasionally driving scooby with its clunky gearbox 😂 but I still love the car best car I've ever driven
Absolutely love my 2004 Subaru Wrx Sti with IAG close deck tuff block, IAG Oil pan with baffle and pick up line. High performance oil pump, FMIC, whiteline front and rear sway bar, 6266 turbo, Iag top feed, Driveshop shop axels rated for 750hp. Made tame 400 on 93. Getting use to this much power before upgrading fuel system for E85 and mo Powa babe.

if you want my honest opinion, get a 2007 sti. slightly longer 4th gear ratio. top feed injectors and it looks better in my opinion.

I'm 23, and recently purshed my Impreza, its been a life long dream since I was about 6. Now my long life dream is complete and I've got my 2004 Japanese imported Widetrack WRX STi. Dream's can be achieved, you don't buy a Subaru to worry about petrol costs etc, you buy one for the amount of childish smiles it will put on your face! :D
Actually the sti only makes about 265 hp/tq to the wheels stock so this is actually a pretty well modified. The 305 stock figure is from the crank, hence the ~265 after trans and awd loss.

An aspen white '05 STi has been by dream car since fall of '04.
Nothing compares to the STI, especially years 04-07. My favorite is 06, but 04 and 05 is good too. The evo is just a piece of crap all around. Yeah fast, but they are built nothing like the STIs.
'04 STi is the best imo. I love that car soooooo much. Sure i like the Evo, but ya just cant beat the STi, especially that INSANE flat four rumble they make. OMG ITS A DRUG!

why are STI's considered so much better than just a wrx?
most notably the 6-speed, but better brakes, interior aesthetics, BBS wheels, bigger turbo/intercooler/well everything at least for the 04/05 year. Now it is a toss up since the they both come with 6-speeds

2 months ago I bout a 05 WRX with only 38k original miles on it, 1 owner. May only be a WRX but still has lots of potential and is so much fun. Wish I had STI wing tho..

+Toyota4Life yeah the sti has always been 10K more than the wrx. mainly because it has all the center differential controls. plus the sti holds its value just because everyone wants one so they jack the prices up because they know people will still pay it if they want it bad enough
