By request! How I sharpen my Simmons broadheads using the Jewel Stick for a quick and easy razor sharp edge plus how to retain it during hunting season!
I don't hunt anymore bc of physical limitations, however, I first started using Simmons broad heads in the late eighties (Landsharks) and had excellent success with them.
Pressure on a diamond sharpener will only pull the diamonds out of the tool. And it doesn't remove steel much faster. If you want to remove more metal, use a courser grit. And you must sharpen to a burr, if you're not looking for a burr, you're wasting time
I still have Simmons 160 Land Sharks I hunt with. That I bought in the 90s. When Jerry Simmons was alive and owned the company. Killed several deer with land sharks and 190 interceptor
Jeff You’re stroking one side twice the length of the other. Watch your video. Jewel sticks are versatile ; love them. Recommend finish with a ceramic rod. Will be even smoother and sharper. Even a fine diamond jewel stick leaves a micro sawtooth.
Yes, push to sharpen, pull to strop. I strop with my Valkyrie paper wheel & there is nothing needed afterwards. They aren't expensive when u can re-sharpen the same head over & over. I won't live long enough to shoot the ones I've never nocked yet while hunting. Measure your bloodtrails in feet & not yards & minutes not hours or days. 😮
@@brucebennett9220 It's a 6 inch bench top grinder. 3500 rpm is recommended. 1/2 horsepower & a 1/2" Arbor. The Valyrie wheels r the grit size 3" & a plain paper wheel which is 4". The kit gives u Wax, Rouge & the sticky wax to coat your broadhead after it is wicked sharp. Helps with penetration & removal from a stiff, solid target.
Hi Jeff, let me start by saying thank you for doing all the testing you do. I want try simmons broadheads which head would recommend for a 45 lb longbow
Jeff, I'm having a brutal time sharpening brand new vented Inteceptors this way. I'm starting to think the factory grind is too steep. The tree sharks I ordered had a slightly better profile and were reasonably sharp out of the package. I have not touched those yet. Not hunting sharp with reasonable. Have you ever used any type of grinding wheel or belt sander to re profile the edge ? Even the RADA wheel did nothing for the Inteceptors.
This is my first foray into a wide cut. At 40ld I was being a little conservative and Dave at Simmons suggested the Interceptor for the more tapered profile. I'm not giving up on these or any of the Simmons heads yet. Your support for a wide cut for better blood trails has really made me think long and hard about broad head choice. Thanks for all your hard work, and sharing of all the knowledge. @@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
Simmons are decent heads they will kill and leave a good blood trail but they are terrible when it comes to sharpness and holding an edge switch to GrizzlyStik!

I’ve never tried the Simmons Sharks heads. Great advice as always. I have a jewel stick and will use it to sharpen the heads. Thank you again Jeff.

Thanks Jeff another great video, now if only some of buddies would pay attention to this so they’d stop bringing everything to to sharpen up LOL
Lol I’ve tried lots of different ways and it really works for me 😁👍🏻
Yep me too, pretty much all the way to the jeans on my leg. Makes em so sharp if you look at em wrong they’ll cut your eye LOL
Good Info right here!
Hey Jeff, I appriciate your vidieo's for the most part. But recomending stropping a broadhead on my denim clad thigh!!!
Lol it works but you might want to wear some thermal underwear 🤣
Your pulling the broadhead not pushing when stropping

Is that set up on an 8” grinder?

I would go with either a land shark or swamp shark because they still get really good penetration plus a big cut 👍🏻
I like using chapstick vs vaseline.
With those set back heads, are you cutting your arrows longer?
Yes! 1/2”
So Jeff your actually filing the furrel and scratching it every stroke so that wearing down, i cant tell?
No that is what the guide is for to set the angle without hitting ferrule.

Hmm I’ve never tried the old interceptor heads.

They sell a sharpener on their website. Gets it a rough sharp, but not razor blade sharp
Yes sir but they do work great if you follow up with a fine diamond paddle just to remove the tiny burrs but definitely good enough to hunt 👍🏻
Just get a Rada Wheel
