  • Leaning how to sharpen a broadhead is one of the most important skills a bowhunter can develop. In this video I'll give you some broadhead sharpening tips and tricks that I use to get my single bevel broadheads shavings sharp. I'll use a mill file, a diamond stone, and a leather strop with buffing compound to get these arrow heads scary sharp. I use a sharpie marker to show where I'm removing material, then create a bur and cut it off. I finish it off with a leather strop.

    When Clay Hayes was born, he cut his own umbilical cord, then slapped the doctor because the doctor was not crying. The doc turned to the mother and said congratulations mam, you have given birth to a perfectly healthy man.

    Clay, great video as usual. One question I have is how do you address the "chisel tip" for lack of a better word, where the very tip of the broadhead does not follow the same curvature as the rest of the blade, and it isn't necessarily getting sharpened when you have the broadhead laying flat on your stone / file?

    • @clayhayeshunter
      @clayhayeshunter  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      good point, I forgot to address that in this vid. I usually just match the bevel on the point and sharpen in the same way.

    Very informative Clay, thanks for sharing. Question: Why are the Zwickey broadheads so darn tricky to sharpen? Is it the steel they use or what? I like them because they are relatively cheap & rugged, but incredibly difficult to get razor sharp. Cheers!

      Tanto not tatoo...spell check

    • @jonbrown9490
      @jonbrown9490 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dougruebsamen3970 a tanto tip is where the angle of the blade changes right at the transition from the belly to the tip in an abrupt manor( think samurai sword vs chef knife). The steeper angle of the tip adds a lot of strength to the point and the fact that the single bevel extends all the way to the point on each side helps initiate the twist of the broad head once it hits the animal. The point is sharp because the cutting edge extends all the way to the point which helps the broadhead start cutting immediately.

      It doesn't take much to sharpen properly.
