For me, it’s the Frontier. I owned a 2020 TRD Pro 4R for 2 years, sold it last month to a friend. I wanted a Tacoma, always have…until I got in one. Actually, I drove 4 over one month… Exterior is a 10. Interior is a 5, and seat comfort is a 2. Transmission was a little weird at parking lot speeds. I drove the Frontier once. I was sold. Frontier looks and feels awesome inside and out, and seat comfort is perfect. Quiet and refined ride and Fender audio rocks. I’ve never owned a Nissan before, so I leased a 23 Pro-4X with all 3pkgs and it’s great. In 18 months, if it’s been reliable and I still like it, I’ll buy one.

Frontier for the loss actually. Tacoma will still outsell it and in general, by the time a typical Frontier hits the crusher via being plagued by too many electrical and other quality control issues, the more simple Tacoma will still be on the road. Frontier beats the Tacoma in every important head to head. You name it. Yes including reliability, those C-channel frames in the Tacoma rust and rot, unlike the Frontiers fully boxed frame, which is nuke proof.
    -Frontier 310HP > Tacoma 278HP
    -Frontier Torque 281 lb-ft >Tacoma 265 lb ft
-Frontier Full Boxed Frame >Tacoma C-Channel Frame
-Frontier Disc Brakes > Tacoma Drum Brakes
Frontier has a premium interior, ride, transmission, seating, head room, materials/fit & finish, more safety features, better crash test, spray-in bed liner, the list goes on and on…not to mention styling, especially in the Pro-4X.

Had the taco for 8 months, cracked the bed loading my firewood couldn't get to the wood pile in the snow,so uncomfortable under powered over priced garbage. Bought it because family members and people rave about them, crap. Worst pickup I ever had and I have been blessed to have them all. Had 3 titan pro4x all great trucks, just don't need a fullsized anymore and gas is a bit better in the frontier. I just leased the frontier pro4x. Nissan trucks are true American made truck by Americans!!! The big 3 can kiss my butt!!! I helped make them rich and most of them are made or assembled outside our nation. And the frontier and titan run forever. My father inlaw who swares by the taco had his frame buckle in half at the bed, crap truck. Not even 100,000 miles on it. I put 50,000 on my jeep gladiator Rubicon in one year ,that truck is an awesome beast. Expensive but it is the king of the midsized off road pickups. Had a manual in mine and spine operations just made it to hard to drive and get in and out of. But it your a young strong buck and have a good job the gladiator is your off road pickup monster, period. Then I would go with the frontier, ranger, dakotas were awsome had 2 of them with the 4.7 magnum engine, miss those trucks. Have not bought a gm product since the government bailout and everything going to Mexico on the back of our tax payers. Sold my hummer and avalanche as soon as that took place so gm doesn't even get my consideration. Had 2 Ridgelines the old body and new they are solid little trucks very versatile and great for hauling tons of stuff for ice hockey tournaments.

Just could not bring myself to sign the finance paperwork. That was just too much to pay for a mid size truck.
Would rather go up to pay 53 to 54 grand for a new 2023 gmc canyon AT4 or go up and pay 56 to 57 grand for a Canyon AT4x to get the additional front locking differential.

Frontier all the way. I love the new look, and the seats and placement are much better than the tacomas. The frontier is more powerful yet gets the same MPG with a transmission that isn't searching for gears like the Tacomas. I mean, 6 speed is just too outdated. Who wants to pay 52k+ for a truck that struggles to find gears going uphill or downhill?? Sure the tacoma has a better offroad setup, but are you really gonna do all that much off-roading?? Come on now, this is a no brainer, in my opinion.

The Tacoma trd pro has a lift should use that model. You mentioned no comparison to fox shocks, etc...You should have compared the Tacoma trd off road and the Frontier pro4x they both have bilstein shocks. Plus used lunar rock ,not flamo orange vs sand color. Toyota does need to upgrade their Tacoma design. Point taken..thanks for the video.

I’ve had both, currently own a brand new frontier pro 4x with all the goodies.
I’ve owned 2 tacomas a manual 6 speed 2019 Trd sport Tacoma, the trans gears are to tall even in the manual. Engine made it not fun to drive a manual too much revving.
and in my 2017 auto trd off road Tacoma the engine would rev all the way up to 4K just to pass some hills in cruise.
The frontier is definitely nicer inside. Rides good has double pane glass, keeps noise down. Just feels more premium.
Trd pro tacomas are nice but they need a better engine trans combo.
I got my fully loaded 2023 frontier pro 4x for 48k.
Close to 60 for a fully loaded tacoma!

I have this exact TRD PRO but with a higher lift on 17” method rims with 33” Goodrich mud terrain tires. Nothing beats the approach angle on that Tacoma. The Tacoma TRD Pro is better for off Roading hands down. Tacoma is also more narrow than the Nissan, making it easier for the Tacoma to hit the trails. Toyota also has won many Baja races! And well the reliability of Toyota and resale value is one of the best in the industry. I would choose Nissan if I was going around town and doing light off-Roading.

Back in 06' I wanted an toyota xrunner. Got to the local dealer and mildly test drove it... salesperson didn't want me to push it?? Whatever but gave it a go and was not impressed. Went in to do the paperwork and after an hour sales guy said it was already sold (last one). Bummed and upset we headed home. On our way the wife said let's go see the new nissan lot but I was not interested. Got there, walked the lot and didn't like the look of the frontier, sales guy asked and I said meh just looking. He asked so I said a truck. He asked color, trans etc so I said black and manual. He came back to rest drive with a 4dr 2wd 6speed manual frontier se. Soon as we got off the lot I punched it and boy was I super surprised! Damn thing was way stronger than the 6speed 2wd ex cab toyota xrunner... I was sold. Here in the islands everyone is a touota and chevy nut hugging lover. Well I share my story about Frontiers and Ford F150s. I have a work truck frontier which my son will now use for work and just got a 2nd Ford f150 twin turbo for work. I'll always choose a frontier over tacoma and a Ford F150 over everything.

I have a ‘22 TRD pro which I bought after my prior 2006 Tacoma finally gave up the ghost after 17 years and 320,000 miles. Both the trucks in this video are great, but before my previous Tacoma I had a pathfinder and then two Xterras and they all gave me a lot of problems and none made it past 170,000 miles. Also Nissan service was always a headache compared to toyota. Not sure if things have changed since then but that a what drove most of my decision making to get another Tacoma = better service and reliability. I will say that my current TRD pros transmission/power are disappointing compared to my previous Tacoma. Everything anyone says about the Tacoma hunting for gears on the highway is exactly right.

Even a fair sized twig jamming into that opening could possibly do some damage. Of course... It's all MAYBE... but why does it have to be exposed in the first place?
