I had surgery and sent to rehabilitation for therapy. Had a fantastic nurse. She said that her last day was the same as my discharge. Said she's going in go to work in a doctor's office doing private practice. Happy for her.
My mother-in-law, who is a Registered Nurse, shared a clever saying with me. To maintain a professional demeanor, she says, "I don't want to impede on your independence." Best way to say do it yourself haha 😂
I had a bad experience with nurse when I was a child (13 y.o). I ended up in a hospital on Sunday alone, and in my country we had a crazy snow storm so my parents couldn't reach the hospital for like 2 days. Also I didn't have a mobile phone. So I remember I was dying from the headache to the point I cried and screamed but noone arrived for a 2 hours. Only much later I understood that on Sunday we had only 1 elderly nurse for an entire floor of sick kids (around 30-40 patients) and their parents going crazy. She just couldn't hadle it alone :(
Honestly, I wish I knew how ugly the profession can be. Like nurses can be so ugly with each other and even tho they know our struggle, it is true. We eat our own and when he said that gossip travels quickly, he wasn't kidding. Like I'm glad I listened to his previous episodes and knew about it before it happened to me. So I'm not surprised but just disappointed in how true it can be. Just had a rough week and wish anyone who has had rough week, no matter which side of the healthcare spectrum you are or work in. Please know you are valued and appreciated. Like I have a janitor friend who made my day, not a nurse coworker, who really took the time to talk to me. It takes everyone to make a hospital work
I had a patient who asked me for water. When I went to hand it to him he started choking me, I fought and was able to get loose. I could hardly talk afterward my throat had been crushed. The patients doctor and HR made me feel like I had done something to cause this. I switched my assignment with a male nurse but the patient kept yelling he was going to kill me all night. I was made to feel bad for no reason. Made me realize I was on my own. I am retired now but the nightmare is still in my mind .
Sorry Nurse John, I wanted to stay and finish this episode, I just need to leave I can't go through the whole episode. I lost my 15 month old son three years ago and I am still not fully recovered. I paused the video while writing this as I can still be triggered with the stories....will watch your other videos though....from Bacolod City, Philippines....with love....
When I started working in Nursing, when I left a patient's room, I would say, "Thank you." to them. It confused some of them, but, at the time, I felt honored to be able to make a difference in their lives. As my time progressed in Nursing, and the reality became clearer, that humanity I cherished, was looked down upon, and resented by some of my colleagues!
36:22 thank you so much! I'm a housekeeper and I feel underappreciated a lot. Some of the nurses and doctors and others aren't very nice to me and it reminds me of middle school tbh with how some act towards me.
No I actually had a nurse slap my brother in the ICU. He was breathing out of a tube. There are some o that don’t need to be in this industry. He was 9 years old.
I feel bad for not getting to thank the nurses who were around for my 51-50. They brought me food, even though I was asleep most of the time I was there. I know I didn't want the food (in the moment, it actually made me upset since they showed more care than my mom), but I appreciated seeing them try to get me to eat. They even managed to have different food for me every time I woke up.
RadTech student here, I’ve only been in the program for 3 months, MY GOD!!! Clinical is dreadful LOL. They really hate each other. It’s not even the job. The job is chill. The staff is miserable. Hyper Sensitive!!!! The majority are males behaving like queens LOL
What you’re saying around 5 minutes in is so true. What we wished for 5 years ago, however many years… we have now. There is so much to be grateful for
I must say I absolutely love your shorts. They are so accurate. Some remind me of my actual health care worker. So now when I see them, I just start laughing. And they wonder why becoming paranoid. Then I share your channels. They, too, laugh. Thank you for bringing laughter to the everyday.
39:38 As a family member of a patient, myself, and my family, always did everything that we could to take care of our family member who was a patient. I didn't even work in Nursing yet, but our family felt that it was better for a patient to have family care for them as much as possible for us to be a partner to the healthcare providers. We didn't pretend that we were trained healthcare providers, our goal was to support them. ❤
Hi nurse john, I am so glad that you enjoyed your time in Bali, I am also from Indonesia. I like to listen to your podcasts and watch your videos. hope I could meet you in person.
Thank you so much for the work you are doing to help all of us. I am a grandmother, a widow of a wonderful husband. I love your videos. I absolutely love your messages. ❤
that's why I work as a travel nurse/ agency nurse. more pay and a lot less stress and there are actually good nurse-pt ratio hospitals/ aged care... out there
It's true working in South Korea is hell if you're not born into wealth you're slaving away your life at a job that doesn't care if you drop dead tomorrow. This goes for any field in Korea. That is why the suicide rate continues to be at all time high and the country has one of the worst work-life balance. Toxicity everywhere. I had second degree burns and went back to work in less than 30 minutes after ointment was applied and I got bandages. It's do or die.
I loved to met you Jonh. Iam sad in one way iam not in Montréal anymore. I lived there for 9 years but iam in Luxembourg now. You are amayzing. ❤ i dont know if you know this hospice nurce Hadley Vlahos. She's Amazing. Love your way to see life❤
In Latvia. Even doctors, alone, gets 20 to 30 patients in day. And gets bullied from patients and/or their family. And it's "OK". Sarcasm is only thing what's keeps you going! 😅
wishing i knew that i’d be taking DNA swabs from the penises of living individuals as a CSI…. was not mentioned until I was asked to do it for the first time in the county jail 😅😅

No I’ve actually never had a good experience with nurses. Like horror stories. But I love hearing that there’s actually some that are good.
