It was gin clear. I wish I was wearing a head camera to really show off the smallies fighting under the water…but head cams are just so uncomfortable to me.
It was a very nice day to be out on the kayak. That one smallie looked similar to a freshwater drum. I need to equip myself with a dark sleeper or z man gobius. You and Jared from Reel Feel Fishing have been having a lot of success with the sleeper. Nice colors on the 19-inch largemouth. You caught some nice slabs! Excellent video!
Thanks, Henri. It’s a love/hate relationship with the Dark Sleeper because I lose a lot of fish on it. It’s hard to keep them pinned. But I only lost two on this day and I’d rather get bit and lose a fish than not get bit at all. Thanks, man.
Thanks, bud. I have a lot to learn about Smallies but I feel like I pick up a little bit every time. One boat out there was making me look like a pathetic fool. 😂
@TheMichiganFisherman nahh dude, you're a beast. You just weren't on them like that. Had you been fishing on their boat, you would have been doing the same damage. You said it was a three person boat in the video I believe
Nice to see ya back out on the smallies brother!!! I can't wait to get back out myself! That 2nd one was a hunchback 😂 #3 smallie 💪 Gorgeous lm bass in the cove! All the smallies were beauties Bryan! Great trip out!
Thanks, Chris. That second Smallie’s mom cheated on dad with a Drum. “Mr. Smallie. When it comes to the DNA results of Smallie Jr…The results say…you are NOT the father!” 😂🤦♂️
They’re more of a sport fish than a fish to keep. Also, even if I did want to keep them, currently it’s only catch and release season right now in Michigan. 👍
Humpback whale !!!! 🐋 that 2nd one was wild looking hahaha. Hey amazing job out there Bryan! Sleeper all day right now. So good this time of the year. But great job mixing it up with baits too. Everything is so big coming out of st.clair. I got a wedding to go to near Detroit in May, I might be able to fish one day on st.clair. hoping I can get one of them big smallies 🙌
Thanks, Jared! Let me know when you’re in town and if I can make it out, even for an hour or so, that would be awesome. Definitely bring some tubes, ned rigs, dropshots, and dark sleepers. They all kill Smallies in May.
Thanks. Well, once they re-open 9 Mile that’s a great spot and it’s the spot I would’ve launched from if it wasn’t closed. That’s pretty much the only spot to launch at and hit the Mile Roads from a kayak though. Just kayak fishing in general, I like launching from Lake St. Clair Metropark…both at the Day Sail and the marsh.
Not gona lie....Kinda wanna jump back in the Yak now haha. Dude....dark sleeper...nice lure. That one at 3:00 is a humpback. Quasimodo's 3rd cousin hahah. Caught a lot of nice ones! Im gonna re work my GoPro mount this year. I like your style of the one you made. Copying....hehe
Dark Sleeper the big winner, but you managed to catch something with just about everything. Great to see you back on the water doing what you do best. Awesome job Brian!!!!
Thanks, Larry. I felt a little rusty at the TH-cam aspect of it (not talking enough and describing what I’m doing) but I appreciate it. If I’m only going to do one thing right, I’ll take the Catching part of it. 😂
7 bass this time of year is not bad at all. Especially when 6 are smallies. Looked like a nice day. Glad to see it's starting to heat up on the main lake.
Thanks. It was ONLY disappointing because the boat I saw came in and the three guys caught fish for 2.5 hours straight. They put on a clinic. No other boat out there was doing that. Just crazy. Had I not seen that, I would’ve been very happy with my day.
Can’t wait to come back to the lake! What’s the best place to launch for the mile roads in a kayak since 9 mile is closed? Was thinking St. Jean Maybe??
I’ve never tried that one. That would be an INCREDIBLE journey to get to where I was. 9.5 - 10 miles. I launch at Blossom but that’s a resident only launch.
@@TheMichiganFisherman oh nice! I was looking at Crocker too I’ve only launched from metro and Harley so I’m really hoping to try the more southern areas.
Great vid and great catches - thanks for sharing! You think a 10ft sit in kayak would be okay to take out on St. Clair? Mainly, I’d stay close to shore on calm days.
Be VERY careful and definitely stay near shore. Then “Yes”…you can do it. If you look at my earlier videos, I used to go two miles out on a 10 ft Lifetime Teton. That was stupid. Don’t be stupid like me 😂👍
Thanks so much for your reply! lol yes I remember watching an older vid of yours and thought you were on 10ft yak or something similar lol braver than I, sir 😂
Great job catching all those bass! Youve gotta love targeting smallies, they fight like small carp. Just curious, do you have the pool noodle on your rods to keep them afloat in case you drop them?
It’s the same foam material as a pool noodle but they’re made for fishing rods. They’re usually sold in a 3 pack and they’re CHEAP. Here’s an example on Amazon: amzn.to/3IFHngK
Way to get on em’ Bryan! Beautiful day out there and the water looks amazing! Tank of a largie man! I think I know that cove. Used to catch a lot of bluegill in there. Cool video buddy!👊🏻
It all depends on the time of year. Early in the year they’re usually tighter to shore, whereas in the dead of summer sometimes I’m more than a mile out into the lake. The good Mile Roads, in my opinion, are the stretch between 8 mile and 11 mile.
His momma was creeping with a sheep 🐏 head lol😂
Hahaha! No doubt.
It really did look like a sheep head !😂
That one Bass had the body shape of a black drum(salt H20) Glad to see you smacking them. The water color looks awesome. That's some nice clear water.

@@TheMichiganFisherman 🤣😆 that was good!!!!
Very nice for this of the year. Can't wait to get out there too.
It’s definitely the earliest I’ve ever targeted smallmouth.
I owe Lucas from @TheOutdoorConquest for giving me a heads up about the spot.
Nice early-season catches.
Thanks, Stacy. Hopefully the trend continues.
We still have ice! I’m admiring this! Why don’t you keep the bass MI?
They’re more of a sport fish than a fish to keep. Also, even if I did want to keep them, currently it’s only catch and release season right now in Michigan. 👍
Bass is great eating. Season still closed here too. :) @@TheMichiganFisherman
Nice fish
Thanks a bunch, Hector! 🎣

Thanks for responding, that’s what I thought. Amazing how limited kayak launching spots are in some areas, they don’t require much.
Where did you launch from on this day with 9 mile closed?
B.H.?
@@kcf6079 yup. That’s where I launched.
@@Michdave700 I’m always on the lookout for more spots.
Most spots in SCS are resident only, unfortunately.

The best part is that I can quickly take it out or quickly spin it.
Only downside is that it gets in the way sometimes. But it’s worth the trade off.
Some really nice fish! Good video and cool green sheephead lol
Thanks. It was pretty wild 😂
I need to get out there this year in my yak. It's definitely on my bucket list for 2024 season.
Nothing better than kayak fishing on LSC. 👍

Im bummed i cant fish for smallies at the 9 mile pier this spring since its closed until next year. Thats a great spot for em in the spring .
That’s incredibly disappointing that it’s been closed for so long and will continue to be closed. I feel for you.
Man you and Lucas are killing it😎💯
Thanks, Lucas is making me look like a bum by comparison. Wait til you see his video.
The Dark Sleeper getting the job done as usual!
Such a tremendous lure. I just wish it was easier to keep fish pinned with it. It’s the only downside.
Love it, Have a few dark sleepers but can’t seem to get away from wanting to drop shot. Will have to give it a try

Heading up next week from Ohio with my pedal kayak to do some smallie fishing. Any recommendations for a good launch atea to fish?
*Area to fish...
I’d say your best bet would be Lake St. Clair Metropark at the Day Sail Launch.

That smallie in a thumbnail is built like a drum!
Yup! I thought the same thing and even mention it later in the video. It’s crazy. Crossbreed or something. 😂
The ice is gone, bring on the tank smallies!
In about a month we should be seeing more hawgs in the kayak.
What size and color dark sleepers do you like or just the wagasaki color
All I use are the Wagasaki in 3”. 1/2 oz.
@@TheMichiganFisherman thank you !!!
Catching footballs!

Great catches Brian! Some dandy looking trout!.... lol I mean bass lol I wish we had more bass lakes around here!

Wow just seen you 😂

How far do you go out from the shore , and typically where specifically are the good mile roads . I see the 9 mile tower in your video

The Dark Sleeper wins the talley for the Smallmouths, and Smallmouth's that identify as Drum, Hahaha.
Hahaha. There was definitely a Drum creeping around those eggs/beds.
