Hi guys! Well done! Love your channel! Just a quick tip from a cabinetmaker - when working with hard oak pre-drill the holes using a drill that is the size of the screw core. If you also lubricate the screw by rubbing it with a candle, it will be all smooth sailing 😊😎😉 keep up the good work! Kind regards from Denmark 🇩🇰
Illia, you should be very proud of your beam work. It was interesting to see you resolve all the beam issues. You are an addiction and I wait for each episode with anticipation. My husband and I think your are a wonderful couple and we love the content.
Moin, Moin! I have been watching you and all your work with enthusiasm for a long time now. But isn't it strange: What I want most is a silent drone that follows Annika for a day. :-) Thank you for your beautiful films! Greetings from Hamburg
It is so nice to see someone doing what my grandfather would have called "a proper job". Not counting all your viewers, no-one will ever see it or appreciate the number of hours that go into making sure that the support under the iron beams is sound and will last for many, many years. I take my hat off to you.
Illia, you do very good well thought out work on your projects. It's a joy to see someone else take their time to think things out and is not afraid to try a different way of putting things back together better, and at the same time making it look original. Well done.
Illia you and the cat are a great team that beam you finished looks fantastic great job thank you for sharing and you time can't wait for next video thank you
What a unique technique to reinforcing the beam. I don't think it's going anywhere. Thanks for sharing with us. The cats don't have a care in the world😊
On the last video, I just couldn't comprehend what you were planning to do with the steel beam and the wood beam. Today, I watched this and thought "genius!" Wonderful the way you figure out things. I know, I know........."let's do this." That must be the battle cry.
Excellent beam repair and enforcement. 👌 I so like the editing of the video and all of the music chosen for parts of it. 👌It's always great to see the inspector inspecting. 😊
I am not there so I can only make suppositions and conjectures but I would probably have cut sections out and scarfed in other pieces of old beams instead of reshaping damaged areas and gluing and planing in small pieces only to end up with something that still needs more wood to be added to level out the surface. Scarfing in old sections of the correct size would probably take less than half the time. Of course, that supposes that you have some old beams laying around that you could use for this.
Tedious perfectionist work can really wear you down but it’s worth it. You won’t have problems in the future that require you to redo anything. Doing it right the first time will save you money and headaches later.
What an enormous amount of work! How many bottles of glue did you go through and how many bolts did you use? Also, how have the kitties been getting along? Hopefully they've all settled in and have become more friendlier over time? And are any of them bringing little 'gifts'?
Glad you'll be when this support work is finished/installed/fabricated. You're a determined and talented engineer. Thank you for sharing your skills with us. Humbled I am.❤🎉😊🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
After you finish this part will you be putting the floor to the attic back? I love to see the finishing touches to the attic. It could be so beautiful.😊
It is very spezial to reinforce a beam like you.....but it is unique ! Using an new oak beam could have been faster and less complikated but not unique....so what is better? I don't know, perhaps the Cat knows....😉
From what I have seen on other vlogs, oak seems to be the be all and end all as it is so strong and long lasting. As you effectively doubled the amount of oak, why the need for the iron plate? Isn't it only holding up floor joists and boards? Good job though. Best wishes.
Great work as usual from the man of men! Maybe drill some pilot holes into the hard oak to help those large lag bolts go in easier. You will not lose any strength doing that.
Love you site and the fantastic work that you both do. One small point is that the metal you use is steel not iron. Common mistake don’t take it to heart
I don’t know the name of the tool, but Dan at Escape to Rural France channel has a tool that can dig a wide channel. He uses it when edging his wood beams to fit inside the metal beams. Seems very useful.
To some extent. Not the most recent ones. But the neighbours showed us the arial pictures from 70's, when the farm was still operational. Also we have some pictures from before the WW2 and right after. We showed them in our earlier videos. They are really cool! We want to restore some of the features that we see on these photos.
I havent seen a flat steel plate reinforce an oak beam before? Actually I would have recommended to reinforce with oak and if you laminate wood using adhesive you should always use compression, by clamping the wood/wood, until it sets, or use weights (like concrete blocks or sandbags) to hold the pieces firmly together until the adhesive sets. Hope your invention works, but flat steel plate will deflect (bend) a lot more than the oak beam you are 'reinforcing'. If you try it you'll see what I mean.
I agree, it seemed like a ton of unnecessary work. The piece of steel ads no vertical strength beyond tying things together. The metal beams resting on a sold oak support would be sufficient. Great patience and work but it seems unnecessary.
Hi guys I think it is wonderful what you are doing, working hard to make a home in a (for you) new country. I can see you are doing well and i wish the best to you. I know it is difficult but please take the time to be able to talk the local dialect, that is the fastest way in to the hearts of your neighbors. We need people like you here.
Structural engineer here. Laying the steel plate like this is largely unnecessary. He did a great job of it, but sitting the steel beams straight onto the oak would be fine.
I like your brickwork, but when it comes to wood it is hair raising - again and again. What are you trying to achieve with the flat iron? It wont carry load as it is flat!! You probably took out more strength cutting down the oak than you will ever gain with the iron. Try to find a woodworker to advise you - it will save you much effort and pain 😢😢
😸 People do not own cats, cats own people, Anneke chooses to be a free agent, dividing her time to allow both families to enjoy her presence - (especially at dinnertime by the looks of her 😸😸😸)
I don't understand the effort. You have very long steel beams. Why don't you just raise the middle wall until it reaches the beams or build a concrete support where the beams meet?
This guy deserves a global award. Incredible perseverance alone! Immaculate workmanship. Amazing craftsmanship etc
I absolutely agree. His ingenuity is amazing. I have admiration for him 💕
You can do anything Illia, you don't let anything stop you, job well done 😊

I was happy to see the cat « interlude » and Anneke still doing her job admirably, inspecting your day’s work! Good job Ilya! Good job Anneke!
What a life these cats lead! Wandering around at will.

Love the inspector and George-living-his-best-life!
Anneke takes her job very seriously 😍

I am fascinated by your creative solutions to real structural problems. I also admire your workmanship and perseverance! The beams are beautiful.
You both work so hard, I don't know you still have the stamina to keep up the pace. You are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you so much for your kind words! But it's you, our subscribers, who are our driving force!
Is there anything you can't do? The quality of your work and your expertise amazes me every time. Hi Anneke!! I love your channel.
This video is not a video. It is art worthy of the best of videos on building trades. Very nice and music was excellent too. ❤
Illia always figures out a way to overcome the construction obstacles! Great work!

I have to admit that I must have missed the video where you explained why you are making that a structural wall and that it's strong enough.🤞
Excellent beam repair and enforcement. 👌 I so like the editing of the video and all of the music chosen for parts of it. 👌It's always great to see the inspector inspecting. 😊
I enjoy watching you work and solve problems. You're a thinking man builder. 👍👍👍

I am looking forward to the interior design part. You are almost there. Good, hard work. Lovely family. X
Легких шляхів не шукаємо, не ниємо, робимо сумлінно ще на сто років. Ілля, ви неперевершений перфекціоніст. Така праця гідна поваги.❤
I'm glad he knows what he is doing. It's a mystery to me.
Tedious perfectionist work can really wear you down but it’s worth it. You won’t have problems in the future that require you to redo anything. Doing it right the first time will save you money and headaches later.
20 minutes to watch paint dry is time enough for a beer Illia 😉🍻
Anneke approves, so that's good enough for me. Great job Ilya, you are really a master craftsman. Thanks for another great video. xxx
so beautiful Anneke, Gandalf and George.. and so good work Ilia, the perfect workman
Awesome work, Ilia! Practical and beautiful.
As for the car interlude:
Gandalf: "You shall not pass!"
😊
It is amazing to watch your 'in situ' custom beam construction.
Thank you! It was a challenging project with no clear understanding how to do it better. But Illia found the way :-)
Incredible workmanship. 😊
Heel goed gedaan, die balk blijft daar voor 500 jaar minstens 😉

The immense satisfaction you must get from this.
Voorboren werkt echt heel goed

I think this has been quite a challenge. It will be perfection!!
I love that you always do your work with a great attitude and with great skill. 👍💕
Getting better all the time, Couple . Your perseverance is amazing and will be very nice to seeing it's completion realised ..😂😂❤❤ congrats 👏 👏
Your craftmanship is amazing, You are such a pleasure to watch!

Ilya doing manly work with wood and steel plate to tinker bell music. 😂
A wonderful craftsman 💪🏼
All good things take time....and it's done properly now....inspector approves ✔️
Looks good 👍
Indeed - time, sweat and money :-)
They are fine beams, nice work.
Gandalf is venturing out? That is progress!
Your house is coming along well! Good job on the beams.
yeah about 5 years 🤣🤣😂😂

You have a lot of patience.
Great engineering! ♥️♥️♥️
Miss seeing your wife around. Is she working away?
Good job 🌺

Doing fantastic work ❤❤❤
Thank you 👍
priemaugust at the work!!!!

again.. taka a little bit of oil on the screw. oliveoil or sunflower or machine oil. you will see its much easier
Looks very nice
Anneke ❤
Beware the oak rotting your steel plate, best paint it to protect.
I thought he painted it bright red?
Hi. My husband says too bad you didn’t have the correct dado knives for your table saw.
Do you have any pictures of the place before it was abandoned?
To some extent. Not the most recent ones. But the neighbours showed us the arial pictures from 70's, when the farm was still operational. Can you Tell us what the general plan is ? You may have explained but I forget...

The oak beam is laying on top of a brick wall and your inlaying a steel fletch plate in it because ......?

@@waihian5926 exactly my point. What he did was some great work but man ...

I wonder if she chooses to dine at both of her homes 😻

I don't quite understand why you are renovating these old beams.
Washing up liquid on your screws
keep going and finish about 5 years when you work slow
