    Wow! Dude, you post some really great videos. I just purchased a 2011 X5 35i with 124,900 miles on it and it is leaking out oil really bad. I bought it from an estate where it had been sitting all winter in the cold NE. I got what I thought was a good deal, but now with the dealer quoting me $1800 plus parts, I am a little concerned if this vehicle is even worth it. I just did the oil filter and cooler gaskets hoping that would resolve it but it is still leaking really bad. I am having trouble actually seeing it leak. At idle on ramps I don’t see the major leak, once I take it out on the road and then put it back on the ramps, the underside is showing oil everywhere..
    I am a DIY guy and do most of my own work but after watching this, I think without a lift, a helper and the heavy tools it would be best for a shop to do. Also you scared me with one of your other videos on the n55 eccentric shaft issues. My scanner is showing Valvetronic system disabled, adjustment fault too frequent.
    Oh, hey I also had a local Indy quote me only 11 hours based on “book rates” ant at a lower shop rate he is only $1100.. what would you do? Thanks again for all your video work.

      RonVF I will let the shop do it. It is almost impossible to do with out a lift.

    I like this video. I need it done on my 2009 X5, but I clearly don't have the tools to complete. The problem is finding somewhere, besides BMW, to do this.

    great work. but it is not “easy and simple.”
    would you do a step-by-step video when you get an opportunity to work on an X5 e70 again?

    Must load suspension with cars weight then tighten control arms.

    Excellent video, thanks. I have a 2011 BMW X5 35i xdrive and I think this procedure will be the same or very similar. I am starting to see some oil drips in my parking spot in garage so it is time... I have 109,000 miles on the vehicle. What other things do you commonly see requiring maintenance on BMW X5s with N55 engine if you have worked on any?

      Same here! I took it to a place where they repair European cars and will cost 1651.
      Called BMW they said can't give a quote but will start with a diagnosis for $186.
      BMW X5 is a massive great car. I think it is worth to repair.

    Great video, exact same car, I'll do it myself; I'll be supporting the engine with a top support bar, that said, the side fenders where the legs of the bar will rest are of some sort of composite (not metal) material and I am afraid that under de engine weight can break the fender flange...any thoughts? Not sure about holding by the harmonic balencer

    Great video and very informative. I was trying to understand the parts around the oil pan.
    Was there a deflection pulley (idle pulley) attached to the oil pan that you had to remove? I am trying to figure out if the bottom deflection pulley attached to the pan or somewhere else.

    There is a hub press tool that allows you to easily push out the half shafts. I have done this job and did not remove the front suspension.

    Wow, surely BMW cars are not designed by evolved humans!!! Most if not all Japanese cars are so well made where work like this is so easy. Waste of time, resources and money!!

      All that suspension craziness is the reason why X5s handle better than all other SUVs. The suspension articulates in a much more sophisticated way than the truck-based SUVs everyone else produces. Depending upon your prerogative, it's overkill or an auto manufacturer making their vehicles the best that they can.

      If you have an all wheel drive Toyota, same procedure will be required to do an oil pan gasket.

    Thanks for the video. Do you think there are any limitations to supporting the engine from the top?

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glen Mullins there are few supports on line that are made for BMW that would work, I just don't have it yet. But either way I will always use extra supports from under to be safe.

    @Maic Salazar great video very information...how much a job like this normally cost for a 04 X5 3.0i labor only? I'm not a mechanic but a DIY guy I did that on my hooptie 96 accord 4dr and was hoping i could fix my x5 because it has the exact same problem oil pan gasket leaking oil. it seems like the whole bottom frame would have to be removed

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guynel Saint-Val it takes like 15 hours of labor. Be very careful on how you support the engine and trans.
