    The way you guys just walk along the bank and fish 5-10 feet in front of you on streamers has changed how I fish streamers forever. Had such good luck going out doing that after I saw it in an earlier video. So kickass

      Big brown trout are predators, you can pretty commonly get closer to them than you think... especially if they're in cover. We fish for big trout similarly all over the country and even on the most pressured water we get similar results

    Ohhh, Jon, between losing a bigun' and breaking your birthday rod, I give you credit for not using the words I would use!! at least while you were recording! I did loose track of broken rods in the last few years but you won't break rods if you don't use them, comes with the game. Best of all "ANDREW!!! the absoulute HERO of the trip in these videos. You guys entertain for sure! 🤩👏👏👏

      My mom and Nana would be mortified by the expletives that I utter when fly fishing. I had two loop knots run through all 11 of my guides when fighting a striped bass and ruined a brandy new Monic line a couple weeks ago. Said lots of bad things!

    I was out there in South Park fishing ... and chose not to fish at that particular location in which you caught many of those nice migratory browns. I chose to fish a couple of other streams knowing how difficult it is at that stream these days. I was totally impressed. You totally made it look easy! Now I want to buy more streamers! I was curious about the 2nd location ... but don't want you to necessarily spot burn ... but I think I was there at the north entrance ... if you know what I mean. I killed it that day catching numerous and nice bows 11 to 13 inches long ... and a decent brown that went about 13 to 14. I was driving home and saw a big rig with rod vaults on top ... with GA License plates ... wondering if it was you guys. I was headed east on September 28th on I70. Anyway guys ... keep up the good work and thanks for making killer videos. I'm out!

    Rods are kinda like that. I've broken a few nice ones over the years, and it really made me dislike them. I save my emotional investment for reels, because I spend all my money on good hooks and hackles.
    That Colorado scenery is awesome! Well worth the trip. I love to see a trout stream meander thru the meadow.

    You two are definitely brothers. All the behaviour reflects how my own lil bro and me act. It can be frustrating and passive aggressive at times but you wouldn't trade moments like that together for anything. Also, as a side note, im a fairly religious catholic fella but do not play around on the water with even the stupidest superstitions; it can ruin whole trips. Good luck and tight lines boys.

    Great pair of videos. I enjoyed them very much. I know the syndrome of breaking a rod and having the tone for the day change as a result. Happen to me on the Owyhee river two weeks ago. So weird how my mood changing over the broken rod seemed to impact the activity of the fish. I get it. Anyway, nice work on these videos. Keep up the great work.

  • @brianm5032
    @brianm5032 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The issue with the break can be seen at 7:35 minutes in. You gripped the rod above the cork, this very often causes rods to break.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know, but you can see me unintentionally do this hundreds of times with dozens of other rods over the course of my fly fishing adventures 😂 so at the very least this rod was far weaker in that area than rods that cost half that much? Or I’m just getting really lucky

      I've fished them for a dozen years and never had one break that hadn't been dinged with a weighted nymph or streamer. Google the company and you won't see breakages as a common complaint. A friend of mine caught 30+ salmon on a five-weight Avantt below one of the Tekapo salmon farms when they escaped, and these fish ranged from 8-15 lbs, with no breakage.

    The Dream Stream is tough. The fish are smart and get a lot of pressure. 5x and smaller tippet with perfect presentations are the norm there. It's also a tailwater so small flies are what's on the menu.
    Where were you fishing at the other spot? Water that high this time of year usually means Denver Water is moving water around. I would have spent some time on the Arkansas in Bighorn Sheep Canyon. It's a freestone river with a lot of aggressive browns this time of year.
    Sorry you broke your rod. If you ever go back that way, I can recommend some places to fish.

If this was the dream stream in the fall, there would be six other people in every single shot. 2 Things:
      1. fighting fish for longer increasing the likelihood of mortality, especially on large fish... so why fight them for a long time if you don't have to?
      2. I think in most brown trout scenarios the fun is getting them to eat, not fighting them. Because in a lot of scenarios brown trout don't fight much. ALSO it's not like the fish were trying to fight a ton anyways, if we landed them it's because they had mostly given up or were doing something that made us think we were likely to lose them.

    Usually love your vids and commentary. But you your hook set is as if you’re catching bass. Generally, for trout ,even big ones all you need to do is lift the rod up. If it works great,if not there’s always another fish,maybe. It’s fishin not catching. You don’t have to rip the jaw out of the fish.cheers,Chet

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with the hook set thing, but when you're using streamers you have to get the hook through the mouth of the trout (especially on bigger fish). So if we set the hook lightly (which we did on some clips that didn't make the cut) the fish ends up getting off 100% of the time. Usually when you streamer fish you're strip setting and setting at distance so it's not quite as dramatic, but when you're fishing close to the bank you can't strip set so it becomes an issue. But thanks for watching!

    Why do you fish from up on the bank from the deep side of the creek? If you fished from the shallow side, you wouldn't have to worry about your line catching on weeds along the stream., not to mention you wouldn't need to step into deep water to play the fish or rely on your brother to land the fish. To me it's not really fishing if you don't land your own trout.
