will solve nothing, the government is the real culprit. The Green New Deal and more mandates with new taxes that cause financial strife.

Mark my words, removing Duke will solve nothing & I grantee the next company the State
"approves" to replace Duke will RIASE energy prices even more. El Perro is barking up the wrong tree.

If Duke would spend as much on maintaining and upgrading their infrastructure as they do on lobbying, they wouldn't have to worry about the citizens revolting and cities leaving.
FWIW, New Smyrna Beach, Florida has their own power grid and they do a wonderful job. Very friendly. Pretty darn reliable. Even after hurricanes.

Duke Energy is a terrible company. They don't take care of the customer, which are also citizens!

ALL utility companies are terrible (from my experiences that have lived in 4 states). They know they got you (the consumers) by the balls. And some of them even in cahoots with their local politicians. So, it's their price or the highway.

@alexleanh withalacochee is way better. Cheaper, less fried electronics despite the fact I live somewhere with more lightening strikes. Plus they give a credit once a year that cuts the bill significantly.

"Our system is not for sale" is a barely veiled threat. That is saying, the grid is owned by us, if you take this route, you will not be using our grid, so you will have to build your own from scratch, skyrocketing your cost.
Here, our internet grid and cables were built out by GCI. So when we opened up and groups like AT&T and Verizon moved in, they had to rent bandwidth from GCI, who rented very little, therefore drosseling other companies speeds so GCIs was always the fastest.
This is what Duke is threatening. Either they will not allow competing energy from using their grid, or they will allow it, but make it somehow worse for the consumer.

The city of Clearwater has NO capacity to take on running an electrical grid. They would still have to buy the electric from Duke. Then it's up to the city what they're going to charge. So that would Institute more government control, of which I would NOT support!!
We can already see how the city has managed the rebuilding of Coachman Park, the water department and the management of the recycle program, to name a few.
I have nothing against our new mayor because he was not involved in these past problems. But I would tread lightly on forcing taxpayers to Shell out more money!! We've been tapped pretty hard in the last several years.

When it comes to corporate America, we all as consumers have to understand two things: Corporate Greed and Profits. Period. Corporations have been making record profits, their CEOs have been awarding with record bonuses, and their shareholders have been raking in record profit sharing. Just look at your prices at the grocery stores and gas pumps for obvious examples. Or, just look at your historic gains in the US stock markets. This is a capitalistic nation with its capitalistic system at work. Capitalism is doing its deeds and why are we complaining???
