Nearest Baro and MEF were huge nuggets of knowledge that I never realized that were there...the hardest thing about the bottom is there are a dozen things I want
Use caution with the nearest baro... ATC uses the settings at "an airport 45 miles away" so they can effect standard separation with everybody dialed in the same. If on an IFR flight or using flight following, use what they tell you.
DANGIT! I missed another one! Sigh. My question: how do you keep your iPad from overheating? I have overheating problems when I mount mine on the yoke. I can only imagine it'd be worse if I mount it on the window. Especially in a piper cherokee, where I don't have the shade of the wing to provide protection from the sun. WHOA! I got a shoutout! Thanks! Too kind!
I'm in a low-wing, blazing sun and 100F on the ground yesterday. ipad and my android phone both shut down before I took off. I normally have the 'pad on velcro on my right leg. I moved it into the shade, which ended up being my left leg, which was also getting airflow- in an RV12, the only air vent is by your outer knee. anyhow, after they cooled off, both stayed on through the almost 3hr flight. I tried to set them in the shade when possible. I'm experimenting with a fan to keep the hero10 cool. I didn't run it consistently yesterday so it might still be overheating. It probably still did though, I see it reached 62C. Might need a bigger fan/more than 3.3v to get enough airflow. or maybe I'll print a hat for it so it has more shade. tedder.me/fly/gopro-fan-v1.jpg
sentry pro lets you download the logs after a trip, so no more missed flights. is that worth the extra $300? your choice. I already started trying to hijack the wifi traffic on it to see what they use as an internal api to download 'em. the auto start/stop is annoying because (a) you forget to start it or (b) it restarts on every full-stop landing and you end up with a fragmented trip.
