beautiful singing voice and calming talking voice. few have the gift of being a good musician AND a good teacher. It's all the subtext stuff that makes it easier to understand, learn, and make your own
Blues is the original folk music, music for and by the people. Thank you Rev for putting it out so simply and so passionately for all of us to enjoy! You are a great teacher, speaker, player and historian of the blues!
Agree with the sentiment but the problem with that statement is that blues is barely over a hundred years old and there are types of folk music going back hundreds and hundreds of years
@IV Ltd i did not make a distinction between. The original comment said that blues is the original folk, but folk music talks about music that came before blues music too.
I am 47, been playing guitar since I was 18. Im not very good. My favorite music my entire guitar life is the Blues. I now build 3 string CBG's and play with slide. Thank you for these lessons, Son House and Lightnin Hopkins are my favorites. I get a ton from these videos. I learn a piece and the HISTORY behind it. Thank you.
Seriously, the Rev. just taught me more about delta slide than years of watching other videos. And he uses Son House’s Death Letter Blues as an example, which was the first song to ever grab my interest in the style! Thanks Rev.! Hope you can share more in the future.
Not only is he incredibly talented. But he explains it all so well that it's easy to grasp and understand. The background behind what he's explaining is icing on the cake. But close into the lesson incredibly well easing the overall understsnding.
This is perfection. Such a wonderful man teaching history within a masterclass. I have been binge watching every single one of Rev Jones teachings. I am so excited and am learning so many valuable lessons. Its easy to listen to your voice bc you remind me of my great granddaddy John Dixon who sang gospel and played guitar. He is who inspired me 24 years ago to pick up my first acoustic.
I’ve played guitar for over 20 years and I’m only just starting to understand the complexities of blues like in some of the moves that he’s showing here. The feel is so relaxed and seems understated but it’s true mastery of the guitar. Everything after the early blues is just trying to be those few players from those times. Crazy really. Amazing video
♫...The woman I love now She's five feet from the ground I said, the woman I love now Lordy, five feet from the ground And she's tailor made And ain't no hand me down ...♫ ... thanks man, that always does the trick
Started watching this guy and listening to him talking about these old blues players and their differences and similarities........I was mesmerized. This is absolute GOLD.
Thank you a lot. Since 1985 I had been playing the guitar and blues. But your clarification shed a new light with my pentatonic and drop down D turning.
The Reverend is in the house. Amazing video. A free masterclass which has just opened up the blues in a way no other lesson ever has. I thank you Reverend Robert Jones and God speed.
When you’re teaching me old school delta blues and you throw in a LEGO reference you have me hooked. It’s interesting arranging these visually pleasing open tuning licks into my all 4ths tuning.
There are few real blues/ gospel slide guitarist left from the original lineage. reverend Robert is one hes traveled all over the world preaching the gospel of blues .there is a distinct difference between the two and in his own words "they should not be mixed" play one or the other independently .. In reference to a funeral final resting of my two best friends Clarence and Curtis Butler. The Butler Twins for whom he did their Grave site blessing these are two legendary Delta blues men . Robert is from their era .. Pay attention close study hard hes a master .. Thank you sir God bless you
You’re AMAZING!! Thank you Rev, you sir are a wealth of important information and i can’t thank you enough. You’ve helped Me not only learn the slide a bit better, confused(your right hand is so GOOD!!) and taught me invaluable technique, you’ve taught the so very important history with it!! Please keep it my friend👍😁👍
Amazing lesson and incredible talent, this lesson flipped a switch for me and has opened the door for me to play these oh so familiar licks. Thanks rev
Play love your stuff man I absolutely love it… I can listen to this all day and I’m saving up for one of these guitars I haven’t heard music this good in a long long time
I'm not sure if you understand scales and theory. You are already doing scales and theory no matter what you are doing, when you learn theory you are learning what you are ALREADY doing. This music used blues scales because this music originated blues scales through stuff like what he is playing. So this is using scales and theory and if you want to understand it musically you should learn the scales and theory, especially the scales are not hard at all. The primary thing he is demonstrating here is modulation, it's modular because it is limited, I'm not saying that is bad, it's just a different option, but things sound specific (flamenco, vs Delta blues vs metal) because of limitations and restrictions. Theory just informs you of what you're already doing friend, no need to be scared of it or dog it down. Theory is the understanding of the specificity of that soul. and it ain't "soul" when you absolutely need a buck and you are sick of playing it, it's knowledge and skill.
Am helping out a friend with agressive Motor Neutrone Disease by taking over 2 of his guitars, and one is a steel, set up for slide, which he'll try to get back to 'normal', because I don't exactly play slide, yet! It's going to be a good ride, Reverend, it's going to be a good ride!
Wow really good , I’ve learned such a lot from you that I had no idea of , so will try it out and put some words to it thankyou , you have great experience and knowledge
Man, I could listen to this dude talk all day.

Blues is not a super old style of music. Like later activity said. Folk music dates way before
@IV Ltd first off i didnt say folk music was white music and i nevet said that blues was not folk.
