  • It's not very often I bond with a watch really quickly upon first getting it in to the channel.
These Leica ZM11 watches have had a profound effect on me.
They are very German, very well made and are oozing beauty
The hardest part fo the review was having to send the watches back...
    Link to watch: leica-camera.com/en-int/watch...
    Thanks for watching..

The title grabbed me. Looking at this timepiece took me back to my amateur photography days when sometimes I'd just stare down into the glass of a Leica 50mm F1.0 Noctilux-M. Now the years are gone, the cameras, some family and friends, but some photographs and God remains. I can still look at a lovely timepiece, can't afford it and still be grateful for the ride. I believe you did an honest and fine review of this watch.

I love the rotor design and the matt gunmetal innards are industrial-gorgeous. Patek came to mind with the dial, and you are right about a slight waft from a passing Porsche. That bracelet connecting mechanism is very neat. The thing is, with their history and reputation, they can get their elbows out and get recognized straight away as a heavy hitter. When you mentioned pricing I thought this has got to be £6750 area, the spec is not pitched low. I can understand your reluctance to return it. " Dear Mr Leica, the dog ate it. As lovely as this watch is, I’m not sure if I’d ever buy a Leica watch. Their heritage in the camera world is Legendary as we all know. Only Hasselblad breathes their rare air and punches at similar weight to Leica. Having owned a 1st generation Leica Q ‘compact’ for 6 glorious years I can definitely vouch for their excellence in that area. Even though this watch reflects their camera manufacturing in quality and symbolically they’ve undone themselves a little bit here. Pitching at Rolex Oyster level prices won’t put off Leica die hards, but it will put off watch enthusiasts who’d rather spend their money on a Swiss watch brand that has been making watches and establishing a reputation for as long as Leica have been making cameras.

  • @WNYfellow

You know that I'm a long-time fan - but this is 'no sale.' $11,000 Aussie = approx. $7200 US. I believe that an Aqua Terra is around $6000 US. Furthermore, Omega has a well-established brand heritage, dealer network and service infrastructure. It does not escape my notice that the Leica website does not mention the price - anywhere. That's a haughty and imperious tactic that few (if any) Swiss brands dare to take. NEIN DANKE.

    • @montys8th
      @montys8th หลายเดือนก่อน

Bingo. You nailed it mate. If I wanted one of these I would have to travel to one of the two Leica dealers in Australia a journey of 1000-2000km. When I want another Omega I have two Omega boutuiques out of the 4 in Australia within 45 minutes drive from where I live in Queensland. I too went to their website which doesn't list a price. Not listing a price is a deal breaker for me. I don't care what your price is but if you make it impossible for a customer to know whether they can afford it or not then I'm out. At $13.5k AUD it's stupidly overpriced for a product that your are not known for. I'm sure their cameras are worth it but the watches have a long way to go to get to the point where people who are not manic will drop that sort of money on an unknown quantity. Interestingly the new Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with the white dial is $13.4k AUD and I would take that in a heartbeat over this.

Peter, I love these Leica's you've shown. The first one that looked VERY much like a top down view of a camera and now this one.
While they may be of comparable quality & price to an Aqua Terra or a JLC, I think I'd rather go with the brands that are known for watches. I truly hate saying that, but as we know heritage DOES matter. If the price was a smidge lower, it would make the decision between the Leica's & an Omega or JLC GADA watch more difficult.

If I had 9 grand USD to spend on Leica, it's not going towards a watch. But the watch/camera overlap is real, and not just from Leica. The Seiko I'm lusting over right now is the Mamiya Sekor P 75mm f/5.6 with a Seiko-made shutter.

Thanks to your impeccable presentation I came to like this more than I anticipated. With the exception of the cost-inflating movement development, I felt myself comparing it to Fears Redcliff. Granted, I think this is pushing the boat out more, also in terms of dial design and bracelet, but both seem to pursue an ultimately relatively conservative and restraint own perfection of the steel sports watch. Initially, it's arguably a little boring, but really hone in on the execution of the key design details and there is originality and a convincing charm there. Both are without a doubt more expensively priced than is good for them. This Leica regrettably is chunky. That would likely rule it out for me. The bracelet is even very thick, which is OK with the bracelet, but less so in the other materials to my eyes, even if it aids the integrated lines from the case. At first glance, I preferred the warmth from the gold and coffee tones. Is that watch also stainless steel though, as it looks quite dark? But the execution of the blue is equally strong, perhaps just less striking. The special edition with the red accents is innovative in dial construction but aesthetically not immediately preferable. While I tend to ignore casebacks soon after purchasing, I must admit that this has a great concept, from the aesthetic of the movement to the crystal and the knurling surrounding it. Ultimately perhaps it's the round case itself that is the least exciting element of this watch. It doesn't quite seem to reach the sophisticated appeal of construction that the bracelet seems to have, but nonetheless the whole watch does leave a very strong impression. Much better, in my opinion, than the first. Unaffordable, but if they could fix that, I'd look forward to a smaller and slimmer version.

IMO the watch is far too thick, and at that price you could get a VC, GP, or a Moser.

Very nice, but I think the bracelet and straps don’t seem to join the case well, there seems to be a weird gap on the rubber, the last link on the bracelet appears to sit higher that the end link and I could see rubbing or pulling on one side of the canvas. For the price I would expect more… a lot more refinement. A system where a portion of the strap pushes into a slot at the end link is bound to cause wear and tear issues the more times you change straps… you could already see it on the canvas.

Definitely beautiful watches. But overpriced given their lack of brand equity in watches. As well as what you are getting for the money. I would rather spend that money on a Grand Seiko. More watch for the money imho. But I do think Lecia is showing potential. I wouldn't be surprised to see them become bigger in the luxury watch market in the future

  • @theoverlord1925

Firstly 167 g is too heavy on the bracelet . 150 g which is about the modern Rolex Submariner weight is also too heavy that’s why I prefer the pre ceramic Rolex Submariners sub 150 g . Personally I think 130 -140 g should be the maximum weight on a bracelet otherwise it becomes not comfortable. The strap options are nice and I really like the easy swap system . I like the minimalist look . In house movement usually means shipping the watch back to the manufacturer to get it serviced ? That’s something you should have mentioned , servicing costs and where to service it . If you have to ship it and insure it from Australia to Germany every 5-8 years plus pay to get it serviced in Germany it’s not going to be cheap . Lastly it’s too expensive at around AUD $ 12,000 . The resale value of this will be almost nothing since it’s not a well known brand for watches . You’d be lucky to get a couple of grand for it . The Germans have gotten crazy greedy for money like the Swiss, their pricing is totally unreasonable and unjustified . Not for me mate, thanks for letting us know this exists though .
