Must be a generational thing, but NO WAY has the Neo Geo been forgotten by time in my mind. Exactly because of it's crazy game prices I do now know what Coleco stands for 😮
I was about to comment something similar. There is no way the Neo-Geo is a forgotten console for how expensive everything was. We keep getting reminded in random videos around TH-cam.
Agreed. If anything, the NeoGeo AES has a legendary reputation. The fighting game community is an enormous, worldwide gaming culture and the Neo Geo and it's games are still a vital part of that. SNK even released a standalone, mini version of the MVS a few years back. Very odd to see it on this list.
Counting the Nomad is a stretch as it was more of another model of the mega drive. The Mega Jet and X eye are more hidden to the public eye if you ask me. Also the videogame crash happened in 1983 not 1985. Colleco didn't fall instandly but that is still when they lost most of the momentum they had buiild up to that point.
Dude, the Nomad was great even if it ate batteries like candy. Being a kid on road trips a lot, having the ability to play any of my Genesis games was amazing!
I loved my Nomad. I never bothered with batteries though-I just kept it plugged in. (i wouldn’t play it in a car anyway-I get carsick if I read/watch something while on the move.)
I love when the odd list comes around where I really get to learn about something I had not heard of before! A couple of these consoles were new to me.
The 3DO failed mainly due to the price. It only had one launch title which is pathetic. It also lacked games that people wanted and had very few platformers and RPGs which were pretty important back then. Lucienne's Quest is one of the few exclusive (sort of) RPGs on the 3DO. Internet support on the Game Com doesn't work anymore. 6:32 That's a horrible design if simply changing out games is a hassle. I don't think I ever heard of the Nuon.
I remember the video rental shop Choices in my town having a display NGage you could play. It seemed pretty cool but I never knew anyone who owned one. I had a Gameboy advance.
I still own NGage QD, and it had some really well made games, like Colin McRae Rally, System Rush and especially Pathway to Glory and its sequel Ikusa Islands. If QD was the first version to be released, it could’ve been received much better.
GameStop had a trade in deal with the N-Gage. Trade in a GBA and 5 GBA games, get a free N-Gage. Yeah...trade in a proven system with a proven library from a proven company, for a new handheld that had none of these things.
The Saturn (just) outsold the Dreamcast worldwide so it was an odd comparison to kick the video off with, especially considering both are widely and fondly remembered these days for their amazing catalogues of unique games.
Kinda depends on how you wanna view it. If we look at the japanese market the Saturn came out in 1994 and was discontinued in 2000. The Dreamcast launched in 1998 and was discontinued in 2001. The sales numbers of the Dreamcast are just more impressive given that it was on the market for less than half of time the saturn was.
@@AstralPhnx Lol. The N64 didn't sell well compared to the PS1 that is true. But 32,93 million units are nothing to sneeze at. It still sold better than the Gamecube or Wii U.

& here are 10 more forgotten consoles: Amiga CD32 Apple Pippin FM Towns Marty - Was only sold in Japan. LaserActive - The most expensive console ever. Base model cost $1000 ($2175 in 2024) in 1993. NEC PC-FX - Was only sold in Japan. Neo Geo Pocket/Neo Geo Pocket Color Phillips CD-i PocketStation - Was only sold in Japan. Pokémon Mini Zeebo - Was only sold in South America.
That includes the PSX Models of PS1(extremely rare), Game Boy Light(the last console Gunpei Yokoi made before he died, was a Japan-exclusive), Amistrad GX1000(infamous for literally detonating due to the terrible plug output unless you use third-party cords, got recalled because of the horrific fire hazard), LeapFrog consoles(including the notorious Didj, which can catch on fire after eating away at the 2-3 batteries you've inserted in the back, was also recalled, but thankfully compatible with the Explorer), the bootleg console/famiclone Lexibook Family Console(gained infamy after it was reviewed by DarkLordJadow and played by Vinesauce Vinny, btw the "wiimotes" themselves look more like pregnancy tests or shampoo bottles than convincing controllers), and the Atari 1200(the 2600's obscure successor). Also I adore the PocketStation and wish Sony would make the PS5's handheld compatible with the main console, or they could make the PocketStation's successor for the PS6. Both reasons are quite good in concept.
The Nomad was its own system as much as the Super game boy attachment was. It was a portable megadrive/genesis and that was it. It was never meant to be its own platform so I don’t understand why you would present it in such a way.
The Colecovision is neither obscure, nor forgotten, at least not by anyone who is into retro games. It's as well know as the Atari 2600 or Intellivision.
Weird list. AES is still getting games released for it. Nomad isn't a game console, it was a handheld version of the genesis, and the wonderswan was literally only released in Japan only. Try a little harder next time.
Hotel Mario, Link: The 5 Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda’s Adventure keep the CD-i from being forgotten. That, and of course, The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe (and really of course, Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties).
Awesome! But I would have rather seen the Turbo Portable or whatever that NEC device that had a portable TV tuner attachment than the Colecovision which was very popular (just expensive).
I still have my Gamecom and (second) Ngage in my cupboard. My first Ngage bricked because my friend sent me the Pimp My Ride theme tune to use as a ringtone, but it filled my memory and the phone wouldn't turn back on. A very mid-2000s sentence there.
No gamer over the age of 40 has forgotten about Neo Geo. It was the first that you could call a "superconsole" churning out a 100% authentic SNK arcade experience at home. It was the console we all dreamed of having, but knew we never would. I didn't grow up in a town full of rich brats, but I grew up in a fairly affluent town. I knew someone who had a Jaguar, someone with a 3DO, two people with TG-16's, I even knew someone with a Virtual Boy. I did not know a single person with a Neo Geo. I don't think it was the $800 cost of the console that was so off-putting (3DO launched at $700) it was the $200 cost of games. Buying a Neo Geo was guaranteed to set you back a minimum of $1,000.
The Colecovision was not a weird, forgotten system; and a serious competitor to what was out at the time. The Vectrex, Odyssey 2, or Bally Astrocade would have been a much better choice from that generation.
I had an opportunity to buy a Vectrex for only $25 at a thrift shop around 1990 or so, but at the time, I was still a poor college student and just could not come up with it at that time. By the time I did, I try to go back and buy it, but it was gone. Still kicking my self in the @$$ to this day! I so wanted one of those things.
Funny thing about the Hyperscan... Since the console dropped out of the market so quickly, not all the cards for its five games got released, leaving its games permanently incomplete.
A family friend had a Neo-Geo at his house and we always thought it was insane. He later went to prison as it turned out he was in a major gang. Good times.
The WonderSwan was also designed by Gunpei Yokoi, the designer of the Game Boy. That’s part of why it was successful. It was sort of a Game Boy 2.0, and then the WonderSwan Color was worthy competition for the GBA. I just wish it could have come to the west, especially the USA. That’s where Bandai really fumbled. And the only thing wrong with the Sega Nomad was the game. If it had been called the Genesis Portable (or Mega Drive Portable), it would have absolutely been a barnstormer. While you say that it had a limited library, I don’t consider “every game for the Genesis” to be limited. It was cheaper than the Genesis, it could be used on battery or wall power, it could, as you said, connect to a TV (and a controller, I seem to remember). Sure, it couldn’t handle the 32X, and the portability made CD an impossible task, but overall, there’s no shame on the Nomad. Sure, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a bit awkward to play, but when the biggest knock is that portability came before designing for a game with a unique hardware setup, then it counts as a good idea in my eyes. If they’d connected it more strongly to the Genesis brand and used it as part of the budget line at that console’s last gasps, you’d be singing a different tune on it. I’d have also liked a way to play Game Gear games on it, connected to a TV, but that’s a stretch goal.
A few years ago I managed to pick up the special edition Final Fantasy Wonderswan Color complete in box...great little system with some hidden gem killer titles!
The only way someone doesn't think about Neo Geo is if they've only ever been exposed to AAA gaming and never spoken to another gamer, I consistently see people wanting to make sure different collections have Neo Geo titles in them when buying game drives and consoles. 🤷♂️
I don't think that the Neo Geo or ColecoVision belong on this list. The Neo Geo was niche but much loved. The ColecoVision was very successful here in North America. It is no more forgotten than the Intellivision.
Obviously people that have owned any of these consoles haven’t forgotten them. I think the phrase “forgotten consoles” is more about if general public who never owned them will know of them. Almost everyone has heard of the snes even if they never owned one. I don’t think the same could be said for Neo Geo.
I think that some of the systems on this list and how forgotten they might be depends on where you're from in the world. Especially for example, with things like the neo geo and coleco vision. In the US, things like the coleco vision In particular is pretty well remembered but might not be as well remembered if you live in the UK or Europe. Some systems are very well remembered in Japan but not really in the rest of the world.
No one has forgotten about the Neo Geo AES. The Neo Geo CD, I can understand...but not the AES. P.S. The Philips CDi should have replaced the AES on this list.
I actually have quite a few of these in your list. Quite a few indeed. The people I hang with have a good deal of them as well. Maybe it's just because I'm old AF?!
To be fair, most of these weren't lost to time, not exactly. It was lost due to information diffusion being more difficult back then. If one seller says Sega is better, they won't even look at the expensive stuff or why its expensive. I heard the name of a couple of these in the 90s, never saw them. I tried to find all the games and platforms I could. But the lack of internet, and the term nerd being a negative connotation. There was no communication. The rich people got their kids these things and they weren't gamers. It was more like a trophy of theirs. I own a $600 game station. I was a true gamer with a nerd name to boot. Sega Channel was amazing!
Yeah I’m not surprised that wasn’t successful only five games in total and it seems like it gets really expensive when you need to buy all the different cards extra

Gamecom weakness are outdated tech, as outdated as the gameboy when something like game gear was around and gameboy color going to come out in a few years and if the games weren't poorly made. Hyperscan was a neat concept, if the game wasn't dmc heavy with the cards, and long loading times and poorly made games. Maybe each cd should have the basic main game stuff and be partly playable but completable, and the cards are used to unlock the skills/power boosters and light dlcs?
Don't know where you got your info, but the NEO GEO hasn't been forgotten by anyone, or anything, I guess other than you guys. The AES should be nowhere near this list.
Lol no games for the Nomad. Nope not a single game released. Love these videos the script is gold, you can not play 32x and mega cd on the nobad really no shit!!! Imagine that on the back seat of a car.
I had an inquiry many years ago around the early 90s there used to be like a motor cycle, car racing mini arcade ut had a wheel an a shifter do u know what those are called i been looking for one for years
This is a very weird take on the Ouya. The thing was a scam, not "too far ahead of it's time", it was an Android phone plugged into your TV at a time before Android phones had any processing power so couldn't run anything you'd want to play on your telly.

@RaineV1 honestly I can agree, but I specifically said Sonic Jam because it's in a VERY well-known game series, but shits on the main idea of Sonic, which is being fast. Also the music is slowed down versions of Sonic 3 & Knuckles songs for some reason, and it's really bad.
Sorry to say, but I have to watch your videos in 2x speed. The VO's are too wordy and too slowly pronounced. It makes for hard listening/watching in regular speed.

Hyperscan was a neat concept, if the game wasn't dmc heavy with the cards, and long loading times and poorly made games.
Maybe each cd should have the basic main game stuff and be partly playable but completable, and the cards are used to unlock the skills/power boosters and light dlcs?
I actually own a brand new sealed Hyperscan
Found it at a flea market for 30 bucks lol
Don't know where you got your info, but the NEO GEO hasn't been forgotten by anyone, or anything, I guess other than you guys. The AES should be nowhere near this list.
Lol no games for the Nomad. Nope not a single game released. Love these videos the script is gold, you can not play 32x and mega cd on the nobad really no shit!!! Imagine that on the back seat of a car.
I remember there was a lad on my university course who was bragging about getting a Gismondo. Funny times 😁
I backed the Ouya. Whoops.
I have a friend who tried to get me on board back then 😂
I had an inquiry many years ago around the early 90s there used to be like a motor cycle, car racing mini arcade ut had a wheel an a shifter do u know what those are called i been looking for one for years
Dangit I misread the title and thought it said conspiracies instead of consoles.
If I remember correctly the North American video game crash was earlier than 85. I got my vcs in 79 and nes in December of 86.
It was a typo
I knew the Giz would be #1
A mate at 6th form had an N-Gage, not for very long though
To make a typo on the video game crash of 1983 felt like a misstep on an otherwise great list.
Connecticut Leather Company? What the hell?
holy fuck i remember buying the hyperscan in a marshals aroumd 2004. that shit was such a weird console
This is a very weird take on the Ouya. The thing was a scam, not "too far ahead of it's time", it was an Android phone plugged into your TV at a time before Android phones had any processing power so couldn't run anything you'd want to play on your telly.
What about the Buttertendo?
The way this is written you just know whoever wrote this was a A+ student in English
I actually have a wonderswan colour
There is no console war
This is literally a condensed "copycat" video of the @MojoPlays video that dropped 2 weeks ago titled "20 WORST Video Game Consoles of all Time" go watch for yourself. Im not callin plagiarism but the writer was lazy, and certainly watched this video.
Nearly every video game YT channel has made a Weird Consoles video at one point or another. WhatCulture, for instance, has done multiple ones over the years.
@@erakfishfishfishWhich, hilariously, is where TripleJump splintered off of
I have the Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo CD good consoles
Ps5 in the future forgotten consoles
i have a nomad
I didn’t know David Mitchell did youtube videos on games!
The Nuon is the only one I don’t recognize, but I think it’s fair to say most of these are “forgotten” by the general public. I will say the NEO GEO being on here is surprising tho
game how can we make a console more like a blackberry.
11:32 *flashing lights* *epilepsy warning*
I don’t even have those issues and I had to look away! Yikes

Sonic Jam (Gamecom) is probably one of the worst games ever made
Every Gamecom game is one of the worst ever.
@@theoneandonly-qs1uw Is it true that Sonic 1 in the gamecom version of Sonic Jam doesn't work?
no one really talks like that. no one.
Is the google stadia still a thing?
Discontinued January 2023.
Will the Nokia NGage feature?
Also hoping ro see the GP32 as well but will understand it not being featured.
Sorry to say, but I have to watch your videos in 2x speed. The VO's are too wordy and too slowly pronounced. It makes for hard listening/watching in regular speed.
You’re lying about 2x. 1.5x is good though.
i find it more weird how he talks...
Why u talk that way
First time on a video on TH-cam in my 24 years of life pin this buddddddd
