For anyone interested in a Sony camera including the A6700 looking to record 25p or 30p framerates using h.265 just note that Sony cameras do not support 25p and 30p using h.265, but only h.264.

You don't need it man. In fact, its a feature that vast majority don't use and its simple. Crazy amount of data and you need quite powerful computer. Just use 4k and make sure you get the framing right. This is how you become a better videographer. Don't rely on cropping. Sometimes its useful but i doubt people will use it often

The Sony a6700 has to be the perfect camera when shooting 4K60 in the minus seventy degree Northern Lights shoot which all dedicated hitechies need to go in January 2024. The camera will quickly overheat, warm your hands nice and toasty in a few minutes. Then you can stuff it in your backpack. With no Northern Light footage, because the Aurora Gods will be laughing at you with your latest adventure. As soon as that cam hits the bottom of your backpack & freezes solid, the greatest aurora display ever will explode overhead. So, all the AI genius guys & gals, hurry, rush get three of these cams for your next Siberian or Alaskan shoot. 😎😎

It would be great to have a dedicated X-S20 vs A6700 :) - After watching both reviews, I still have some questions:
    1. How do they compare in low light video?
    2. What is the dynamic range difference in video, are they both 14 stops?
    3. Is the FLOG2 1250 ISO on the X-S20 noticeably worse/noisier than the ISO800 with SLOG3 on the Sony?
    4. Maybe some more IBIS testing of X-S20 vs A6700 with a comparable i.e. 13mm lens instead of the 8mm extreme option
    5. Side by side autofocus for talking head, does the Fuji still lose you?
    6. Personally, for video, which one do you think overall is better?

I'm also wondering about this. I'm planning to get the A6700 as a second photo shooter aside my A7III but I'm even more leaning towards it replacing my A6400 for the main headshot when livestreaming. I've never had issues with any of these cameras when they ran with dummy batteries (also my A5100) for 7-8 hours of livestreaming/conferencing per day.
But you're pointing at USB streaming so I'm just wondering if @cameralabs also has a tip here. Will I be able to both livestream and power the camera with the same USB-C cable? Hm.... Otherwise I have a set of dummy batteries... Cheers!

Great test! Still this camera is not good for me. Unfortunatelly for photography it is underspeced in terms of used components (shutter speed, sync and drive modes both mechanical and electronic, EVF, screen, 1 cardslot) and photographic extra features, while in terms of video it is no match in terms of slow motion to my GH6. Difference in video specs are not enough to replace GH6, and in terms of wildlife photography it is not enough to replace Canon R7. Sadly. I was sure I was going to buy it. But I will pass and wait for a6900, a7000 or R7 II

Any chance Sony can release a firmware update that closes the shutter when the lens is off? Dust and Sony seem synonymous for me.

I have the Sony a6400, the Sony AX53 (camcorder) and the Lumix G85 as my primary 4K video cameras and I use them all generally at 30 fps. The a6400 in particular, I think should have had some scan rate options where possible. For example, they could have made the 30 fps scan an optional alternative at 24 fps. This way, I would have had the option to decide whether I wanted the (theoretically) better image quality of the slower scan or the less "warping" of the faster scans. I think I would chose the 30 fps scan even when recording at 24 fps. Other people might make even different choices. Also, I would appreciate having 36 fps and 48 fps frame rate options.

I hope you enjoyed my active quality test, I've not tried that before! As for the crop, I didn't measure it on the A6700, but it wasn't huge and I'd expect it to be similar to the FX30, so I'd say closer to the 1.1 mark. You can see the impact on my stabilization and vlogging footage.

When you mention the X-S20, it should have 7 stops IBIS vs 5 stops on the Sony, shouldn't it beat the Sony in stabilisation? - the open gate 6.2k and no overheating issues are quite compelling on the X-S20, would you say you prefer one over the other overall?

How is autofocus for video? I have the a6400 and continual autofocus in 4k/30 video recording only works when the a6400 is connected to an external display via HDMI cable (which turns off the internal display while making the camera prone to overheating). I have it on a tripod and I am sitting ca. 1,5 m in front of the camera on a carpet in most of my videos, and that's a huge challenge for the a6400 and comes with quite a few issues. Probably not now as it's too late and there's too little demand. I did one for the X100 VI and not enough people watched it to justify the time spent. A lot of the XT5's movie capabilities are shared with other models though, so have a look at my XH2 video review and you'll see most of what it's about.

I find the A6700 an underwhelming mix of rangefinder style with bad evf, crappy screen and still the worse stabilisation of the major manufacturers but with great focussing. I was hoping for the mythical premium apsc to use with an 200-600mm for birds but sadly not. Maybe it could work with a good external monitor.

I honestly don't know where this idea of a high-end APSC from Sony has come from. I've seen people talk about it in rumours for years, but it never comes even after all these time. I'm pretty sure THIS is their high-end APSC offering and if anyone wants a better EVF, twin slots etc, they'll be directed to the A7 III and A7 IV etc. I hope I'm wrong, but so far it's not looking like this camera is in the pipeline.

I'm beginning to conclude such a camera may never exist and its either full frame in "APSC" mode or MFT

UHD is a kind of done in 2023, if one wants to take video a kind of serious or creative.
inho Sony is slowly loosing ground to competition. Great AF alone is not enough anymore. At least the A6x series is a kind of cheap. And the 3rd party lenses most of all.

Seems that you, Gerald and Jordan have all had different overheating experiences, with Jordan's being the worst, and Gerald's being the best. Oh, and Fro had some overheating issues too (I think it was 30 minutes at 4K 24p in an approximately 80F / 27C room). At $1,400 it is pretty inexpensive, but it would have been nicer if they had charged closer to the FX30 price and included a better LCD and EVF, second card slot, and more resistance to overheating. (I understand the FX30 has those features, but it doesnt have a mechanical shutter IIRC, so can't use it with flash for stills.) However, got to commend Sony for keeping the price down. My a6500 cost the same $1,400 when I got it new way back when it was launched, so basically Sony's pricing has benen inflation resistant.

@@filipelollita806 they scale-up however many pixels are remaining after the crop to whatever you're filming in. So if you're filming in 4k, the final file will still be 4k in size BUT the actual amount of detail will inevitably vary as it's scaling up a lower res image as it 'zooms'. Not ideal, and if you're looking you can see it in some extreme cases - for example, a 2x digital zoom would mean you're dropping from 4k to 1080p.
