    At 1:34 I'm not sure but I think I hear a D-->C from the singer at the right and a C-->B-->C from the one at the left and it sounds gorgeous (and that would mean the piece is in C)

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yes, it is a beautiful dissonance that resolves to C major but the piece modulates a few times. It starts and ends in G major.

    Do you think Thorbo led the group back in the day? I wonder in Monteverdi's time who lead the tempo for these pieces

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it works well. There are groups that still do this like Arpeggiata and Scherzi Musicali.
      Different instruments led depending on the moment in early 17th century Italy. Everyone is listening and reacting to each other really but often it can be led by the harpsichordist/director in my experience.

    • @scottglasgowmusic
      @scottglasgowmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonacker harpsichord director in my experience too. Never seen a group led by a theorbo or archlute player.
      btw - reached out to your Archlute manufacturer in Canada. See if I can get one some day.
