  • This was by request from a dear friend -- a meditation that would help him to approach eating with more consciousness. Like our GLOW meditation, this one uses four letters to help us remember four essential elements of the eating process. Hidden within the workings of this meditation are things that will help you eat less if you're overeating, and to eat better if you are eating junk food. May it change your relationship with food!

Looking great my friend. Love this! You are a great teacher! I lost 20 pounds over the last 8 months by giving up alcohol drinks. Also as I’m about to eat something not good for me I tell myself in a loud voice “you don’t need that Daniel!” And I find my want for that food diminishes greatly. I think you sometimes have to tell your subconscious to stop the animal primal instinct of wanting to eat sugars and fats.

Daniel, that's awesome!!! 20 pounds! I love your technique of talking out loud to yourself -- someone I know is using that technique with tech, announcing out loud every time they connect to the internet -- and it's quickly building consciousness around the whole issue for them. Way to go, my friend!! Always great to hear from you =)

Great video. I always loose sight of this. Using food as comfort and filling a void.. it gets to the point where you have to look down at whats in front of you and realize that you don't want that in your body

Hi Kenton, and not to worry Brother Man, I've got your back!
Lately last few weeks I've been plagued by shoulder injury. Because of that transfers are a nightmare. Fewer transfers per day right now, the more rest my shoulder gets. I already eat one meal per day at night. That means an automatic bathroom transfer in the morning. Skip the night's meal, and POOF! Two transfers in the bathroom not needed. I still have two transfers at minimum, but those are vastly easier since I have some help.
The point is that fasting saves me not only more transfers, but forces ever more conscious consideration of my overall food intake, and making certain to maximize proper nutrition to LAST for possibly more missed meal days. It incidentally increases my sense of (yes) 'savoring' that food, as it begins to edge into that weird Twighlight world of food=survival. Concurrently, it forces me to design meals for maximum (dense) nutritional value at the expense of our cultural proclivities for 'frivolous' or junk-type 'goodies' foods. This has a very direct effect at HOW my body-mind-complex reacts to what I DO eat, and am finding that with serious mindful attention to this process, I'm actually able to stay alert/functional on MORE fasting days per week than ever before, and this is the really crucial aspect of the whole exercise to begin with. At first I was scared to death. "Oh no! I'll get weak and spacy and STILL not give my shoulder a break". But Good Old Mamma Nature designed us better than that. MUCH better.
So now, I'm discovering a realm of food liberation that is literally challenging me to re examine and conquer a lifetime's food addictions, without getting all stupid about 'dieting', or going to extremes. I'm constantly coming back to long dormant thoughts and ideas learned, heard, talked about years or decades ago, and realizing that it was there for me, but my addictions were stronger, and that now, I can either make the correct choices, actually USE a lifetime's knowledge of real nutrition, or pay the PRICE, and that price is WAY TOO HIGH now. My margins are basically gone, and it's become literally 'use it lose it', and just about everything I value about what I have left is what is at stake to lose.
Soo, with all that said, why should I snivel and cry because I can't run out and glut myself on French fries with mustard and ketchup? Do I seriously believe 'The Universe' feels the least bit sorry for me if donuts are no longer safe for me? Don't ask; ", and doing it with SMILES! What would Jesus say?" Ask instead; "Could I possibly endure the looks of utter contempt from emaciated famine zone children if I complained to such ones??" Really now....
The bottom line is that yes, I totally hear you Brother Man. Loud and clear! Even as I hear sooo many great teachers, thinkers, philosophers, books, magazine articles, and the simple, yet dignified videos of those close-to-the-earth peoples living in remote poverty stricken villages in various countries, eating their frugal, often same diets, and doing it all with SMILES! THEY speak volumes without a word, and their words /actions outshout ALL the food brainwashing our greedy corporate controlled media tries sooo very hard to literally 'cram down our throats'! Gotta LOVE them. Gotta RESPECT them! Gotta truly LEARN from them, and simply integrate ("integrity"?) such food wisdoms into daily affairs, until IT becomes the comfortable norm. Becoming more Holistic is WORK. With time it becomes natural. Finding more and better ways to live healthfully and in tune with Good Old Mamma Nature, and by extension in solidarity with those awesome peoples, is a GOOD feeling.
Re discovering real life-ways is difficult. As a card carrying 'have' in a world of EXTREME poverty/hunger/oppression, it is extremely humbling to see just how OFTEN I've looked to the 'have nots', or at least have-a-LOT-less-than-I-was -blessed-with, for guidance. This was a MAJOR tenet of real Hippiedom back in the 60's, and was probably THE most actively repressed/sabotaged paradigms we had. We still have this to contend with and overcome.
    LOVE YA, MAN!
Respects from John, Ana, and Little Forest!

This is beautiful I really like that. It engages the entire eating process and not just in meditation before you eat. I can’t wait to try this at dinner tonight.

I look forward to hearing more about their horse journey. I do hope they learn about keeping horses in a way that is more natural for them, not simply the modern practices that are more about convenience to the human. Just like with humans, sometimes convenient is not healthiest, but the why is not always obvious to us.

This is great, I’m going to try to keep this in mind tonight at dinner. Food is still a big issue for me but slowing down and paying attention makes such a big difference in what I eat and how much I eat. I really like the assimilate and transmute part, I feel like that’s something that I’ve been missing. Thanks Kenton 🙏💚

@ReWildUniversity My Father would regularly take an hour to eat an orange. At picnics he would lay down on a blanket watching and drinking in the pleasant environment and company. He could enjoy and savour things just being there.

If you're eating too little, take a walk before dinnertime to stimulate the appetite.
If you're eating too much, drink water after a meal, and wait a few minutes for your brain to catch up with the news from your belly.
If you're habitually eating the wrong foods, make an effort cultivate a taste for the right ones.

    • @ReWildUniversity
      @ReWildUniversity  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Nice. I especially appreciate that last one -- we can change our sense of taste so that healthy food tastes better than junk -- but few of us realize our sense of taste is so mutable!

    • @litterpicker1431

@@ReWildUniversityAbsolutely. Many of our ideas about what foods we don't like are formed in childhood. Some adults know very well that they don't enjoy the same music, watch the same TV shows, or have the same attitude towards the opposite sex as they did as children, and yet they _still_ insist that they don't like some foods which they last tried when they were six years old (or refused to try because they didn't like the color).
The hormonal changes that occur at puberty have an impact on flavor perception, and enjoying new foods over the course of our lives can affect the way we perceive the tastes and textures of foods we've previously experienced.
You haven't tried curry, or cauliflower, until you've tried curried cauliflower!
