For me, Dookie will always be my favourite Green Day album (it will never be topped, not even by American Idiot). But this is still pretty good and I like how they’re keeping up with today’s reality and while I love the old Green Day, I wouldn’t want them to be doing the same thing over and over again or doing the same as other artists or groups (which is why a lot of today’s rap sucks, but yet some is incredibly overrated) I like when bands like Green Day experiment because it gives them a new sound and makes them sound more versatile. Everyone getting all uptight about Green Day trying a different style needs to realize that they've been making music for 32 years. You can't expect them to stick with the same style forever. They were possibly feeling burnt out to some extent, so they decided to shake things up a bit. Nothing wrong with that. Artists need to shift occasionally, or else things will just become monotonous. EDIT: I should add: Shaking it up isn't always going to be a smooth process. After all it is often referred to as experimenting, so it won't be amazing every time. Hell some people don't even do it to get a good result, at least not as the primary objective every single time. Some people literally just need to change it up once in a while to not get burnt out. Ya know what you get from a burnt out artist? A loss of quality that becomes more consistent the longer they remain in that rut. So in the long run it may very well benefit the very same fans that are complaining about it. Now obviously I'm not an expert on this, these are just my own thoughts on the matter. But I wouldn't be surprised if they were potentially feeling like they were just going through the motions and had to do something different. They don't owe you a specific type of music, it's their band at the end of the day. If they feel differently, that's up to them. Just chill out my dudes.

For me, Dookie will always be my favourite Green Day album (it will never be topped, not even by American Idiot). But this is still pretty good and I like how they’re keeping up with today’s reality and while I love the old Green Day, I wouldn’t want them to be doing the same thing over and over again or doing the same as other artists or groups (which is why a lot of today’s rap sucks, but yet some is incredibly overrated) I like when bands like Green Day experiment because it gives them a new sound and makes them sound more versatile. That’s why I like American Idiot and also why I’d rather this over another Anti-political album which they’ve already done about 3 times already. I like change, and while this may not be the best change, I still like it and I applaud Green Day for it

Everyone getting all uptight about Green Day trying a different style needs to realize that they've been making music for 32 years. You can't expect them to stick with the same style forever. They were possibly feeling burnt out to some extent, so they decided to shake things up a bit. Nothing wrong with that. Artists need to shift occasionally, or else things will just become monotonous.
EDIT: I should add: Shaking it up isn't always going to be a smooth process. After all it is often referred to as experimenting, so it won't be amazing every time. Hell some people don't even do it to get a good result, at least not as the primary objective every single time. Some people literally just need to change it up once in a while to not get burnt out. Ya know what you get from a burnt out artist? A loss of quality that becomes more consistent the longer they remain in that rut. So in the long run it may very well benefit the very same fans that are complaining about it. Now obviously I'm not an expert on this, these are just my own thoughts on the matter. But I wouldn't be surprised if they were potentially feeling like they were just going through the motions and had to do something different. They don't owe you a specific type of music, it's their band at the end of the day. If they feel differently, that's up to them. Just chill out my dudes.
Besides, their fanbase doesn´t decide whether they´ve reached their limit or not, they should keep exploring all they want
