    The sound of the SQ1's appealed to me the most, but if I had to choose a snare, it would be the one that was paired with the ProLite kit.

    Can't tell if I'd prefer sq1's or Prolite's. The vintage series sounds amazing too. Perfect pairing with the snare drums

    I always appreciate side by side comparisons. More so if the kits have a snare that matches the rest of the drums

    • @digitaldrumming
      @digitaldrumming ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, these were the kit configurations that were available for shooting at that time here in Germany. Apart from the Benny Greb snare (which matches the vintage kit quite perfectly soundwise I think), the other two do match the kit. The Prolite is a brass snare though. Kind regards!

    It's nice to hear a comparison, and while different drums hit it off with different heads, it's hard to know their true differences with such different heads.

    • @wilkinsnl
      @wilkinsnl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Without the same sizes heads and tuning it’s pretty pointless.

    • @digitaldrumming
      @digitaldrumming 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wilkinsnl Not pointless at all, as this was not a scientific attempt to make three completely different kits sound alike. It's a side by side showcase, featuring individual sound characteristics of three different kits for different situations/musical styles. Actually it is a mash up edit version of three full length demos to be found on Sonor drum tube.

    I'm pretty sure the Benny Greb snare was originally marketed as an SQ2 snare. not SQ1 or vintage
    but i guess maybe we're comparing the shell packs here.
    i have to admit, i was focusing on the snares, as i usually do. i love the Benny Greb snare (which is why i own one) and the brass snare was mighty fine.

  • @shazampanda
    @shazampanda ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Love this but I would really have loved to see this with the same heads on all the drums, we're getting a bit of a misread on the real differences between the drums. We've got coated stock Sonor heads, clear stock Sonor heads and then Evans EC2.
    That said, we've got a decent read on Vintage being the tubs, Pro-Lite with a bit of that open Great Gr-Sonor Sound and then the SQ1 with the punchy birch tone that we've known for a long time.
    No SQ2 because they're more boutique/custom?

      Hi, this video is actually a mash up of different sessions I shot with these 3 kits (solo & In The Mix sound demos, here on the channel also).
      The kits were actually not meant to be as alike as possible, but to rather show their individual strengths for different styles/genres. Hopefully I'll have the chance to shoot an SQ2 too soon! 😁 Kind regards!

    Would have nice if all the toms had of been the same size to get a true comparison. Just bought my first Sonor kit (have played Gretsch for years). I bought the SQ1 in Cruiser Blue. Put Evans EC2S heads on the toms. Sounds great. Still have 2 Gretsch kits but find myself behind the Sonor more and more

      Yes, but it would have been less entertaining also 😜 just joking... This video basically is mashed up footage from the sessions I had shot for the three kits, including solo sound demos and "in the mix" music performances (to be found on the Sonor YT channel). You are right, it's not the same sizes / tunings etc. The kit configurations were rather chosen to suit specific musical situations / genres, but nonetheless we thought it might be nice & helpful to hear those kits side by side in a compilation / mash up video too 🙃 Kind regards!
