Oh yes! My patreon song, I love you Enoma ❤❤❤ This is the song leading into Frayed Ends of Sanity. I believe it is about a psychologically unstable and possibly alcoholic/addicted father who takes out his anger on his immediate family. This possibly leads to the point where he despises his children so much he chooses to take the life of the infant to satiate whatever evil is lurking beneath. Many hearts to to make up for this dark song ❤❤❤❤👍
I have watched a lot of your reaction videos over the last few weeks and I must say, the 2 of you have come a long way in the past 8 months with you ability to feel the beat and "groove" to a metal song. #soproud !!! Keep up the great reaction vids!! Namaste!!! Cheers!!!
This isn't my actual name. Back when online wasn't yet an internet, I wanted a Metallica-related screenname. "Harvester of Sorrow" was quickly shortened to "Harvester", and over the years got shortened more to "Harv". Truth. (the "72" is my year of birth, the "b" is because there was already a Harv72 on hotmail way back when)
You guys have done a few separate songs from Metallica’s ...And Justice For All. There’s another song on the album I think you should consider reacting to. The song “To Live Is To Die”, because you guys often acknowledge Cliff Burton’s skills as a bassist in older Metallica songs. He was a huge role in the progression in Metallica’s musical direction and expansion. If you don’t know by now, Cliff died in a bus accident in 1986 after Master Of Puppets but before ...And Justice For All in 1988. You’ve already reacted to their instrumental Orion and if I remember correctly, I think you praised Cliff’s performance on that song. To Live Is To Die is the next Metallica instrumental in line chronologically. It was created as a tribute to Cliff after his death. So I think it would be a good one to react to. It’s a well regarded song by fans and I’m sure others have suggested it before as well. I’d be really curious to see what you guys would think of it.
I interpret this as a good description of an abortionist (Harvestor of Sorrow) (Infanticide) (Your loss becomes my gain) (Anger, Misery) (You'll suffer unto me) Edit: seems like you came to same conclusion
This is one of the songs where the live performance is SO MUCH MORE menacing and dynamic... '89 Seattle or in particular '91 Moscow. It'll give you chills. EDIT: And it should give you chills, it's describing an absolute horror. The character was abused in the past and has 'eaten' his anger for so long that the existential disappointment of his current life leads him to blame his family, turn to drugs and alcohol.... and murder them in their sleep. All have said their prayers (they're asleep) Invade their nightmares (he arrives while they're sleeping) To see into my eyes (they awaken as he's doing his work) You'll find where murder lies (the insanity can be seen in his eyes) Infanticide (even the most helpless...) This is why the song fits the lyrics, it's menacing, slow but gripping... deliberate. It pushes you to the inevitable finale in a way that can't be stopped. It's flippin' POWERFUL in it's depiction.
Glad you liked this song. This is one of the more mellow songs on the album yet it's about an abused person who finally takes his revenge on his family (the abusers). Now go react to the Moscow 1991 performance. Probably the best version of this song, ever!
My Interpretation: This song is most likely about a parent who tries to escape their misery through drugs and alcohol and eventually takes it out on his family by beating and killing them.
Basically a song about child abuse as seen through the eyes of both the abuser and the abused. Child abuse is basically the "Infanticide" referred to in the song.
Agreed. This song is about calling out abusers... showing their abuse and shaming them for being terrible people. Metallica often focuses on this them and later made "Unforgiven" as another version of the more mature victim's perspective.
I really like your channel, guys! Your reacts are genuines, keep it real. A hug from Chile, América Latina!! Can you do a reaction to this song?: One More Light - Linkin Park
I always thought this was a song about the mindset of a "damaged" person -- perhaps a parent -- who is passing on the abuse that they endured as children on to others later in life. It's about the sad truth that many of the worst humans were themselves victims.
Yess one of my favs! I think the 'infanticide' is simply there to give you that chilling image of someone who has killed their kids, they are the true harvester of sorrow and you feel how terrifying and chilling just thinking of that person is. Either that or it is referencing Roe vs. Wade abortion law, seeing as justice and truth and power in the courts are the main themes of this album. I just think of someone like Nero when I hear it. Those riffs though!
I am a long-time Metallica fan I have always thought this song was about someone who would have endured great suffering and over time they turned their misery into a weapon, a means to survive
The song is basically about child abuse and how it creates so much negativity. When he states "Infanticide," he is basically equating child abuse as "killing" the children not only physically but also mentally - how it is obviously harmful in every way to a child.
For those who are trying to make their lives or the world a better place, Metallica does a great service by putting 'names' to the demons that need defeating, whether they be societal or personal.
"Harvester of Happiness" - 👏
Yes, that's James with the chuggy riffs on rythmn . He is the riff master!! Thanks for the reaction!

Dennis Marcum according to James it's about a murderer from his perspective
Its about child abuse.
