This show single handily got me in to computers. I bulit my first computer for video editing with a miro dc1 when i was in 9th grade. I now do motion graphics and color correction professionally.
I remember and miss this show. Actually my Dad pushed me into watching. It's amazing how far things have come since then. I wish they had all the eps from 1998-2002 when the show was at it's peak more or less.
Good to see my scan made it to youtube! Thanks Zdtvmultimedia. I'm the doofus who asked the DVD authoring question. I miss ZDTV so much, like others I watched it like crazy. I even did a claymation intro for the screensavers and call for help. Those even made it to "You Made It" background graphics. I was a netcammer of the week as well. You can tell I loved the network. RIP ZDTV, rise from the ashes Rev 3 and TWIT!
I used to love this show! One time a guy called in and wanted Leo to check out his website. As Leo was loading up his website the guy mentioned that his site was unhackable. Leo started to say NO don't say that, but it was too late, somebody had already took down his website, in just seconds.
Notice the info on there, very crazy for it's time, stuff that today NO ONE KNOWS wtf is going inside and audio card yet they are there explaining it bit by bit, I miss this show.
So miss this show. I love my Macs but I watched this show religiously. There are no more informative computer shows and that's a shame. Thanx for the blast from the past! Bring back this kind of television programming!
Learning is much now in 2018. I was about 4 when this aired. Finding so much reticent for what I want to teach people now in my blog. If only I had watched this when i was young. So much worth learning.
And this right here, those 2 specially Leo and Kate destined my life and work to be based around building and repairing Computers. It all started by watching "The Screensavers" Thanks.
Same here bro. I was so passionate and deep into it and my studies I wouywouykd go to sleep and dream I was studying ha. Trying hard to get that now. Stay away from drugs at all cost my friend . even if you break your arm take tyelonol. The gamble is nkit worth it might do to you
One of the best, informative, mature, tech shows ever. I used to watch this all the time in the late 90's in basic cable. Then the freaking YES baseball network took it over. Then came in the abysmal G4TV network.
I wonder if that guys name was really Tien, irony. They had no idea what dbz was 😂. Wow a guy wrote in because he has as Leo said "a MASSIVE 18gb hard drive", whoa!! How time flies. Although he could've most likely changed the setting in the bios that accepts larger drives. I remember buying a very large 250gb hdd on sale for $200 in a store. Back when it was $1 per 1gb in mid 2000s. I recently saw a 250gb WD drive on Amazon for $25. I also loved the ending when Leo showed his hands on how thick the plasma was and says "it's really thin". I thought he was going to say thick. I still have a decade old plasma that has a beautiful image but is thick (or was thin back then) and heavy as heck. I loved the episode! Thanks for the upload! Watched these alot but I also missed a bunch of episodes because I always had school activities and couldn't record on VHS til later. I wonder one thing about that plasma and I have no idea if even they knew back then but using a plasma as a desktop, all those static images 😱. Shoot I took extreme care of my 2010s Plasma TV. I can't imagine how terrible those early plasmas were bad with image retention and burn in. OLED only recently "solved" the issues. Not entirely but good enough to where you don't have to really worry anymore.
God I remember watching these and miss them, I learned so much about installing dashboards into consoles from this show along with overclocking my cpu and gpu.
I never missed an episode of The Screen Savers in 1999. ZDTV went the way of MTV. Starting out with great programming, and now it's just a bunch of mindless crap (G4). R.I.P. ZDTV. We definitely miss you!
Thanks for uploading this. I loved this show, even though I am a Mac person, I watched ZDTV every day. It was interesting and kind of sad at the same time to watch this channel grow and change. Now the channel is freakin ridiculous and so very TYPICAL.
In 1999 i was cranking out VCDs converted from AVIs, ASFs, etc.. Mostly TNG episodes I had downloaded (pretty bad quality). I think I used TMPGENC or virtualdub, its been so long I dont remember now. But yes, it was possible in late 1999 with a fast enough CPU and a cd burner. On regular 4:3 tube tvs playing them on a set top dvd player they looked good enough.
"DVD Authoring System" LOL how far we've come. Now I can make DVDs or even Blu-Rays with no problem assuming I have the burner and discs, using free software.
Wow never knew Martin knew so much about tech. Weird hearing him being a great lecturer/explainer, so used to hearing comedy from him. Wish he would put out more material, I loved Infected and Unscrewed.
i want all of these shows, i want to watch them from the first show to the end. does anyone know if all of them even exist anymore? or did all the footage get thrown out when G4 came along?
I remember these days. My Dad and I built a computer and tons of downloading on Napster (bad I know). Burning CDs and DVDs were all we did during that time.
This was the good old days of computers, the internet, and ZD TV. Now, they call it all user friendly, I call it idiot friendly! I miss this.. the screen saver with Kate and Leo! It was such a good show! In fact all of ZD TV was great until it changed to tech tv and became user friendly!!!
@Hunkola Well, i knew that the dc1 was a capture card, but at that point i could only record video using their application. I had not yet grasped the concept that i needed an application like adobe premiere to edit. at that time i was doing deck to deck on 3/4". once i figured that out i could capture and edit. but yes the dc 1 only did 320x200. not sure about the dc10. but it was good for the time, considering that most of my classmates were using 1/2".
I'm glad to see this many people saw this show .Is it just me that these shows were history after 911. After all the Conspiracy Theorist were all computer geeks.
they had one episode where this guy called in and wanted them to look at his website, he then went on to say that his site was unhackable, and the guys said, NO NO dont say that!! but it was too late, his site was down within 3 seconds. that was a funny episode!! im trying to find that one....
heh watching this makes me soooo glad to be in 2008. . .$10,000 to burn a dvd? ouch! i loved zdtv. . .me and my dad watched it all the time. . .well until they decided to screw it. now i'm left with g4tv. there's 2 shows that i like, xplay and atos. . .but atos has nothing on this show and house calls (i think that's what it was called) IMHO. man i miss these shows.
omg kate is my theater dramatics teacher she is so good at acting
My god, if kids today learned as much in this show as they showed in an hour their heads would explode! Loved this show, was awesome!
Everyday after high school ,5 sharp, I was watching Patrick Norton and Leo Laporte on The Screensavers. LOVED THE SHOW!
Same!!
God...hearing the old theme is enough to almost make me cry. I miss this show so much. Kate and Leo were just awesome
This show single handily got me in to computers. I bulit my first computer for video editing with a miro dc1 when i was in 9th grade. I now do motion graphics and color correction professionally.

I just learned more from watching 5 minutes of this than watching G4 for the past 3 years... They need a show like this again.
This was a few days before I was flying out to the US for the first time.
A.......... CRT........ and Windows 98?!!!!! Whoa. Nostalgia. (here 17 years later)
Never got c zdtv but watched g4 and tech all the time and I'm as far from a nerd as you can get miss alot of good content
Early days of DVD burners. hehe
i still have cd burners and old sd ram laying around. i think some of them are 128 mb ram running at pc 133hz
Man, everything seemed so much better in the 90's! Miss this show so much.
i was a freshman in high school when i seen this, i miss this show
What a dose of nostalgia hearing about DVD burning costing 10K+ and 15 years later DVD burners are 24.99 :)
My first cd-rw burner was $750 + $150 scsi card and was 4x write, 8x read and 2x rewrite lol was insane at the time I was on top of the world lol.
@@danfuerthgillis4483 In 2021, I can fit up to 450 CD burners on a single USB flash drive.
@@CarletonTorpin Lmfao we are carrying an entire OS on a stick now 😂
Man I loved this show... Tech TV network was the best .. Learned a bunch from watching shows... Watching these old videos is funny...
these are really fun to watch after all these years.
Notice the info on there, very crazy for it's time, stuff that today NO ONE KNOWS wtf is going inside and audio card yet they are there explaining it bit by bit,
I miss this show.
i miss zdtv and mostly the screen savers. i need them back nt for non dos issues.
+dale myers you can look on iTunes the podcast with new stuff is there
I miss it to i watched this channel so much back in the 90s and early 2000s this channel needs to come back.
And two decades later, Red Hat apparently got acquired by IBM
Wow. This episode is 11 years old. Christ I feel old
So miss this show. I love my Macs but I watched this show religiously. There are no more informative computer shows and that's a shame.

This is classic!!! I loved TSS!!! Thank God for Leo starting TWIT...
You should see episode 52 of "The New Screen Savers", in which Botello appeared.
@@floydjohnson7888 I saw it before. Was great to see her and Leo together again.
WOW Leo looked much younger back then.
These were the days!!!!
i love both dese guys !!!
Wow, I feel old watching this. I remember when it aired.
This makes me kind of sad to live in the future.
And this right here, those 2 specially Leo and Kate destined my life and work to be based around building and repairing Computers. It all started by watching "The Screensavers"
Thanks.

Man, oh man, do I miss this. I mean, I certainly enjoy TWiT and the related shows, but there was just something extra special about this time.
One of the best, informative, mature, tech shows ever. I used to watch this all the time in the late 90's in basic cable. Then the freaking YES baseball network took it over. Then came in the abysmal G4TV network.
Great Shame to G4, love this Show. Had to go to my friends house at the beginning. Then, I got satellite and recorded it.
I wonder if that guys name was really Tien, irony. They had no idea what dbz was 😂. Wow a guy wrote in because he has as Leo said "a MASSIVE 18gb hard drive", whoa!! How time flies. This was the Best show ever in those days now ... TV Sux big time Leo is the King of tech talk...
ahh the good ole days
This is just beautiful, watching recent history.
God I remember watching these and miss them, I learned so much about installing dashboards into consoles from this show along with overclocking my cpu and gpu.
I miss this show soooo much.
Red Hat, Mandrake, VA Linux, Lindows, Suse.... TONS. I have a CD case full of Distros.
@209vaughn this was AOTS before they messed it up
Leo and Kate together..loved this show. Watched it on Direct TV.
Leo is a true genius..
Kate Botello reminds me of Jen from IT Crowd.
I great program for its time
I never missed an episode of The Screen Savers in 1999. ZDTV went the way of MTV. Starting out with great programming, and now it's just a bunch of mindless crap (G4). R.I.P. ZDTV. We definitely miss you!
great show, I miss it!!
The best show ever! Hands down!
Kate was out of this world levels of cute, back then. Geez
Thanks for uploading this. I loved this show, even though I am a Mac person, I watched ZDTV every day. It was interesting and kind of sad at the same time to watch this channel grow and change. Now the channel is freakin ridiculous and so very TYPICAL.

"18 GIG huge drive!" so great.
@pattyaaron Holy crap, that sounds heavenly! Those numbers may seem dated, but the sheer amount of hardware must've been so fun to use. xD
Oh wow and Martin too!!
sigh, good times. remember Faxl Rose?
That Brooklyn/Wiseguy accent Kate does at 45:22 is hilarious.
"DVD Authoring System"
LOL how far we've come. Now I can make DVDs or even Blu-Rays with no problem assuming I have the burner and discs, using free software.
wow i got soundblast live 5.1 sounds great didnt know it whas from begin 2000 the sound card you see in this video is just the live version
It was one of the great tragedies in my life
Miss TSS so much. Poor TechTV. Thank god for TWiT.tv and Revision3!
Wow Martin was so young here...
Martin Sargent was actually saying intelligent things! My how times changed...
Amen brother.
ROFL. It's pretty hilarious seeing these old pros using Windows 98 on all their studio computers back then. :-D Darn I miss that show. :-D
Seeing you comment on Windows 98, 11 years ago.
God I love TH-cam...this is the good ol' days right here :)
Wow never knew Martin knew so much about tech. Weird hearing him being a great lecturer/explainer, so used to hearing comedy from him. Wish he would put out more material, I loved Infected and Unscrewed.
Aureal 3d was in battles with lawsuits at the time of this show lol. Then 4 months later, bankrupt. Don't mess with Creative Labs.
i want all of these shows, i want to watch them from the first show to the end. does anyone know if all of them even exist anymore? or did all the footage get thrown out when G4 came along?
loved this show perfect together leo and kate a real cutie
And on a side note, those cell phones in the intro are huge. lol. But then, it was 1999.
I remember the only best show about computers. thanks G4 ..........
i was to young to watch this show but now i watch twit
I remember these days. My Dad and I built a computer and tons of downloading on Napster (bad I know). Burning CDs and DVDs were all we did during that time.
Loved watching this show. Now it is more about shock and stupidity.
Kate was awesome. I miss TSS and zdtv/techtv
RIP James Kim.
OMG MX300, ... Aureal 3D was AMAZING.
@MJD1701A I think the reason for that is most tech enthusiasts go online for shows/poscasts/videos/etc.
Martin Sargent actually sounds like he knows stuff wow how things have changed!
...and to think I just bought a DVD burner for all of $30!!!
The girls on the show were so cute! Kate, was my dream geek woman!
Cute, not "hot". Once Comcast took over it was more about "sex appeal" than actual girls with a brain.
"Cute and astute" went both ways
HAHAHA. 46:45 Quantum quandry!
18 gig drive... big drive, HUGE drive!
love it.
Lol! I like how he tries to be cool at 13:55 - "sup?" - then he corrects himself - "what's up?"
lol
The late James Kim at 32:54. RIP!
I am having a geek flashback!!!!
I love the old school tech shows. I dont see why a in depth tech show wouldn't survive along next to X-Play and Attack of the Show.
The funniest part is seeing them using Windows 98 on all the studio computers. ROFL. The Bad Ole Days.
@Hunkola
Well, i knew that the dc1 was a capture card, but at that point i could only record video using their application.
This was the coolest tech show period!!!! G4 Ruined everything!!!!! Somebody hit me back
yes I do that was in like 1995
@Hunkola i completely agree.
I'm glad to see this many people saw this show .Is it just me that these shows were history after 911. After all the Conspiracy Theorist were all computer geeks.
It is awkward without coach back in that time. See hosts' hand gestures. haha.
they had one episode where this guy called in and wanted them to look at his website, he then went on to say that his site was unhackable, and the guys said, NO NO dont say that!! but it was too late, his site was down within 3 seconds. that was a funny episode!! im trying to find that one....
heh watching this makes me soooo glad to be in 2008. . .$10,000 to burn a dvd? ouch!
i loved zdtv. . .me and my dad watched it all the time. . .well until they decided to screw it.
now i'm left with g4tv. there's 2 shows that i like, xplay and atos. . .but atos has nothing on this show and house calls (i think that's what it was called) IMHO.
man i miss these shows.
there is a show like this called Know How... on Leo's internet tv network twit.tv
hey!!! did you guys know they have these things called flash drives.. its like we're living in the future. There is also these ipod things.
Ive never seen Leo younger or thinner. Looks good. Kate is a hottie still.
i remember selling Linux CD's back in the 90's to home schooled kids.....HAHAHAHAHA..chaching!
29:00 Jeez, no wonder iDVD was such a hit compared to the existing stuff.....
