Lucy, thank you so much for sharing your experience as a lawyer mom!!! I just graduated from college and have been struggling on whether or not I should go to law school due to the fact that my husband and I are planning to have babies soon. Becoming a tech company in-house lawyer has been my dream as I heard a lot about how the hours were better for tech companies. Your video is super encouraging, as I now know that it IS possible to work as a lawyer while being a good mom! THANK YOU!!!
STEPHANIE ZHENG I’m so glad that this video helped inspire someone else! :) yes, it is definitely possible to be a lawyer mom! I’ve worked at firms, run my own firm, and now am in house and I can say for certain that as a mom, in house offers the best lifestyle. Work hard, you can do it and let me know if I can be of any help along the way :)
Omg thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words!! Just followed your Instagram account your contents are awesome! Please keep posting more about your life as a lawyer and a mom:) I am so determined to go to law school right now!
What does the hierarchy structure of a legal department within a company such as the one that you work for look like?( for example, junior in house, senior in house, general counsel)
Hi Lucy! I am going to law school soon and I never knew that their was a way I could not have to always be in court. I am the same way, I love the court system but hate being their. Your video showed me the path I should be taking
Hi! What does compensation look like for in- house lawyers? Also - what time do you guys usually work until? You got to work at 9:30am, how amazing!!!!!! Do you guys work 8/hrs?
I think compensation really depends on experience, title, location and company so there’s a wide range so it’s a bit hard to answer but you can go on Glassdoor and search corporate counsel at different companies to get an idea of salary level. I usually work until 5! In house counsel is a really really amazing lifestyle! Really allows me to balance work and family, I honestly think it’s the best type of lawyer job you can get!
I would love to go to law school in order to become a tax lawyer or corporate lawyer. I live in Houston, and I am not the type that would like to be placed in courthouse setting. I love working with a lot of paper work and I would love to do something similar to your career activities because it is wonderful. I would like to review contracts etc... how do I know what types of companies I can work for afterwards with a law degree? How do I search for a job like that with that type of activity? Thank you ❤️
What type of law did you practice at your own firm before going in house? Do you have to specialize in both transaction and litigation in order to start your own practice?
Tumanah Wulukau hi there! I practiced a wide range to start, from bankruptcy to family law to tax. I did eventually start incorporate contracts into my practice. It’s not necessary to specialize in both transaction and litigation to start your own practice. If you start your own practice, you can practice whatever you want. But if you want to go in house, you definitely need transactional experience.
I’ve never had to take work home! However since COVID/working from home, the line between work and home is definitely a lot more blurred but I generally still work just normal work hours!
What type of job I can get without taking the bar exam, I have an LLM degree in U.S law from Washington university in St.Louis & bachelor degree in law from back home university
Amr Salah hi there! You can probably get a paralegal job or any law related job short of being a lawyer. You can also try contracts manager or administrator. Good luck!
Listen I went to a top 50 college and it wasn’t difficult to get a training contract. Just need to be persistent and put yourself out there. Networking is inportant
Thank you for posting a video like this!!! I hope you post more lawyer/law school related stuff :) Also I love your outfit!!! The coat is so cute!!

It's super impressive how you can redline with just a laptop! Unless I'm reviewing something pretty straightforward, I need my external monitor.
Yes! I'd love to say a day in the life as a working mom/lawyer!
