After several years of not being able to commit to buying a camera and taking iPhone only photos, I recently got a great deal on an A7rii with 50mm lens and have been diving in head first. These videos have been the most helpful for someone who is just getting into it but isn't too dumbed down or too much time explaining stuff. Lots of great tips!!

I learnt more throughout you 15 minute video, than I have in 18 months. The way you explain different ideas and methods is so simple to follow...basically no waffle and bull****!
I'm really looking forward to getting back out there with my camera 🙂

This is REALLY well-deserved! :-) There is just something about you that makes you stand out from all the other channels (in a good way). It might be your friendly, calm aura or just the fact that you make me understand stuff quicker that other channels do. You just give us this "worlds best teacher"-vibe. :) Keep it going /Oscar

Bit late to the party, so congratulations on nearly trebling you subscribers since making this video, myself included. Excellent advice for a beginner like myself, will try this thought process out as I have often wondered how settings are decided on. I understand the Exposure Triangle quite well but settings can be quite baffling for a beginner, this video helps enormously. For a beginner like myself would you still recommend shooting in RAW despite the fact that I’m not too interested in “post production” at the moment, just want to get competent with using my camera and sharing any reasonable images with friends on social media etc? Keep up the great work Mark, I tune in regularly and I am taking on board all the superb advice 👍

I think in the ISO section you suggested that if faced with under exposure (histogram piled toward shadows) try increasing ISO or “increasing” shutter speed. How does that work?

    • @MarkDenneyPhoto
      @MarkDenneyPhoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Guermeister Doodlebug You’d want to increase your shutter speed to let less light in and decrease your shutter speed to let more light in.

Aperture priority or manual mode, both with auto ISO are much better for action shots than shutter priority. I would never want my camera to decide the aperture and depth of view.

Hello Mark, congratulations I can see the amount of work and preparation for this vlog, my thanks to you. Question: I do not do my own printing, I send them away, but I had a problem, not enough megabytes, which resulted in an unsharp print. Do you have a vlog for such a thing, and if not, would you consider doing one, for large prints. I know that 300 dpi is perfect but what about pixel sizes? Regards Allan

Hi Mark, love your videos, I am keen to learn the nuances of landscape photography.
I am curious as to your thoughts on hyperfocal distances, expose to the right and focus stacking in landscape photography. I understand that all settings in photography involve compromise, ISO vs shutter speed vs aperture etc.
Maybe a set of topics for a future video?
    Thanks for your efforts,
    Phil from Oz

I want to know, if the falling leaves in a landscape making blurry trails could be unseen by slowing down the shutter speed drastically enough not to be recorded at all because in the woods where everything is standstill only the leaves are the troubles? It's almost impossible, I presume, to correct such blurriness in Lightroom! I don't know If so please let me know, it'll be a great help! Take care and embellish us with your exceptional knowledge of landscape photography!

You say you usually underexpose your images? Haven't you considered ETTR (exposure to the right)?
From my experience underexposing can introduce unwanted noise (banding) if you later lift shadows in post. Or is this not so much of a problem with the newest cameras?
Anyway, as long as you don't clip any highlights I think it's much better to overexpose.

In terms of noise is it normal to have red pixels spread across the photograph or is this due to under/overexposed shot?
