A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of life we live.
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee. Savor the coffee, not the cups! The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
Live simply. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Love generously.

I love listening to this over and over. It calms me when I feel that no one is listening to what I have to say when I am showing concern and care to people who are dealing with the addiction of alcoholism and for those who have spouses or friends dealing with it as well.
My heart is heavy tonight and it was so wonderful to see the words over and over and the music is wonderful! Thank you for this...I feel alot better! xxx

I have been watched it for 5 years
All my life, I have been living a very simple life. I had my moments when I was able to hold a good career, earn good income but got lost in the middle of all the wealth. In time, I lost everything and learned that being simple is where you find peace and quiet, in harmony with yourself. Life is full of obstacles and we may never know what lies ahead. But in the end finding peace is what counts the most.

but we are not provided with enough coffee, there is a constant need to refill daily(ie food) in order to get that I actually need a better cup.
I woke up this morning to redo a paper I did for college that wasnt very good and found this video in my messages - what a difference it has made in how I view my life! Even though I already knew the message (in my heart) it is always good to hear it from 10,000 other people who agree "keeping it simple" is where life truly begins. This video is really inspirational. There are times human beings are so blinded by chasing over material satisfaction such as money and forget about what life is truly about. This video really serves as a reminder for us to live life to its fullest, putting aside the chase for the redundance that we think we need to live a quality life.
Just yesterday my husband and I were talking about our life. Forced to be simple due to lack of "fun tickets." He was feeling down about it. I said, it might be nice to travel here and there, but truthfully when you're on your deathbed I highly doubt that you will express angst over not having seen x or x. You'll want to see the eyes of those you love, as much as possible before you leave this world, not a place. Love is all there is. Plain and simple. Peace, love & blessings everyone!

Very true..how much do we really need..contentment is beauty,it free you from a daily stress..the more hours we work, the more money we spend..its all about balancing..live by your own means..but as people sometimes we dug our own grave!

I find myself always struggling with trying to have more and do better at everything, As I have progressed through my carrer I continue to want more but I continue to be less fulfilled. .watching this video my wife and our more than 2 year old daughter are happily prepairing food from what was left from my small salary( and we must make it reach three days)...almost everyday i am complaining why it seems life is not fair to us ..now as my little daughter and wife enjoy preparing our food ....and once in a while my daughter will tell us ...daddy mommy i love you so much ..in our native tongue...watching this video made me realized i have so much in life

One of my best friends said that she is having a tough time accepting people below her social status (she is from a wealthy family). I translated this to our native language and sent her these words, because she doesn't speak English. I hope this will help her appreciate all people, regardless of their materialistic statuses, skin color, life tastes... What a wonderful video.

its always nice to see a video like this, i feel like shit right now but this has lifted me up a little because i know its true, i dont have a lot, i was a student, did bad in college, now i have no job, i live with my mum, shes ill, my dad... well hes always been a rubbish dad, hes never done anything to help any of us, no girlfriend, hardly any friends and i feel like im stuck in one shitty place that i cant get out of.

Yes this video is very inspiring, and it is so true....We need to enjoy life and not look at what we don't have, but enjoy what we DO have. Life flies by so fast, and before you know it, your old and you've spent the best years of your life complaining and being miserable and depressed. Find something in life that brings you joy, and if you can't find any joy, go out and create some joy for someone else, and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Life is waaaaaaay tooo short.
I just found out my mom is going to die of terminal cancer the doctors have told her there is nothing more they can do. I have been looking for something that sums up life as we know it. After watching this video I can honestly say it has all come together now. and makes things much more clear.

WOW! I've heard this expression on many different occasions, but i've never really understood it until now. I feel like it was meant for me because that's the outlook I have on my life. My day consist of many obstacles, and I struggle everyday just to maintain, but i strive to be the best at everything I do,even though i fall short sometimes and get discouraged.

This isn't about you being rich or poor. The message here is contentment in life. Money, Fame and etc fades but not true happiness and satisfaction.
How true this statement is.I can testifies on my self some times I'm so tied up in trying to succeed. i forget to just enjoy life.

I still reflect on a beautiful little cup and saucer which stands on a glass shelf in my kitchen...I bought it on my thirtieth birthday. Everyone else had forgotten me. So I bought this elegant little cup and dreamed I was a great lady. I drank Earl Grey tea it in my kitchen alone. I dont agree the surroundings dont make a difference entirely. I wanted the whole experience and I gave it to myself. I was very happy and still am when I drink from that china cup. Happiness is all in the mind.
Our dispositions in life will show in our needs and satisfactions depending on how we apply and use these. Living in this world is so wonderful and meaningful that's the reason why we are here. Concrete things and our concepts in life provide a purposeful and valuable experiences that can change and improve in our daily lives. Live your life to the fullest.

I would just like to thank you for sharing this video it is truly inspirational. I think if more people thought like this video and starting focusing on everyone around them having a cup of coffee instead of worrying about what kind of cup they had we all would be able to enjoy life (the coffee) the way God intended us to. But too many people are worried about what kind of cup they alone have and do not give a damn about others.
