$400 Cabin, Built in 2 Days!

- This cabin was built using cheap materials and leftover parts for a total out of pocket cost of under $400. I don't usually work with wood, but I made it up as I went along and I think it came out pretty decent! Well, at least good enough...

"It won't be permanent, I plan to move it at some point" is exactly what my great grandpa said in the 50s when he built his house. Still sitting relatively in the same spot, too
These are just the things we tell ourselves while building to help us sleep better at night when we take small shortcuts. “This is temporary.” “I’m planning on redoing all this when I get this other project finished.” “This will work for time being until I get time make something else.” Most of the time, for me anyway, I’ll never end up redoing any of it, at least not within that decade 😂
“There’s nothing more permanent, than a ‘temporary fix’”😁
This video will come in handy soon when we all HAVE to live in buildings like this.
I'm learning that "I think that'll be fine" is your motto.
Your wife is an amazing woman to put up with these shenanigans.
She is probably just glad he isn't in the house with her. 😂
He's a lucky man
@benjaminreinhardt259 right lol😂😂😂😂😂😂
In any case it feels like disrespect to any human being, let alone your wife and kids
And I’m not talking about price of things, it’s not the point, I also love to buy stuff reasonably cheap, believe me
@@llMarvelous what on earth are talking about? What disrespect???!!!
What an excellent use of recycled goods! Heck I’d live in it
I bought a used camper, lived in it while building my place then sold it for what I paid.
I love the pitched roof, but I'm not sure about the pitched floor. Still, it's a roof over your heads and it's cheap, so that's a win in my book!
I don't think the pitched floor would be too big a deal, as long as you adjust any tables to still be level
I lived in a house 🏠 with a pitched floor for a few pears until we got money 💰 saved up to replace it. It didn't kill me, I am still alive😂🤣😂😂🤣🤣
If the pitched floor bothers you, just build a new floor inside that is level.
Maybe instead of pitched floors there could have been something under the metal roofing to give it a slope like 2×2 boards on one side, just a thought. I like the build and reusing stuff is great
I just got 18 acres I need to clear and store some equipment while I clear
So this is right up my alley. Can't wait to watch it. Thanks for the upload
Could ya sell me an 2 acres cheap? You can even pick the spot lol i just need to buy some cheap land but everything is expensive now adays
Great job. Fast and simple. Build a wood canopy over your window. Stop direct sun. And seal off for rain. You can also build one under roof line about 8 to 12 inches out. Throw rain away from building. Catch rain of the roof. You might need a mini wood burner. And some pictures on the wall from the dump. Lol Good job Man.. Have a good week.
Hahahaha genius. Tilt the building. Your ability to improvise never ceases to amaze me!!
Thanks for sharing your talents and adventures!!!
Roof tilted for run off but, so is the floor inside.
Self cleaning... Cut a hatch/drain in the floor... Rubbish flows down hill.... Too😂..
Water gonna run off sides of house and into shed.....@@donaldcampbell5277
Yeah make holes for mice spiders snakes to become. In
Not if it's a small hinged door leading to the ground @@user-ht1xu4gv2u
That is such a clean use of those old crates, and a nice shed too.
You up there by yourself? If so don't do sketchy ladders. Knocked myself out in my own yard one summer for long enough to sunburn half my head. Rough ride off a wet semi tire
1000%
My Uncle was paralyzed from falling from an 8' ladder last year. The whole family's lives have changed dramatically
Should bring someone w u so they can roll up over for an even tan
Look in the window at 9:18 he’s not alone… so no worries at all.
Hay another good low buck production video 👍💪🛠️🪛🔧 helpful tip.Old Bedliners make good roofing material. We use them on deer stands.
Safety 3rd is the way to go.. you want to be safe ? Just stay in bed 😂😂😂
As a retired small cabin builder, this job was awesome.
"this should be easy." I love that.
*- James, that was an impressively fast shelter build and wonderfully inexpensive, too.*
*- I do hope your family enjoys the result and appreciates how clever you are, and the fun of it all.*
Awesome! "Apparently theres lots of ways to have fun" lol
Places like yours out in the middle of nowhere almost always get hit by less-than-nice people who will strip the place clean. Hope it doesn't happen to your place, it did happen to a place we had. You literally cannot leave anything on the site. All the best!
That’s terrible. I’m so sorry to hear that.
¡Por eso hay escopetas!
We don't even consider wooden buildings here in northeast Brazil, but I just love these videos. I am definitely building a wooden shed for my tools. Good work, man!👍
This is the best youtube channel. I don't know why they have any other ones.
I would be interested to see this get some old pallets or old metal pieces added as siding in the future, maybe a wood stove and of course I’m sure that will come with time
When the economy goes to crap, we know where James and his family will be. Love the videos, James!
If you had 4, you could've put them in a wagon formation and used the gaps for the door, windows and use their "doors" to cover the gaps. That'd give you a large room in the center. As for a roof, sure there's a tarp somewhere... that's perfect for a pitched roof. Just gotta put two pieces of wood on both ends of the leading edge and string the tarp between them. :))
When I’m about to do something sketchy I think how my wife would feel when she finds me. Seems like you have plenty of scraps around there to build a ladder with. Nice temp cabin, certainly better than a tent. 👍🏻
Nice little project, could easily make it into a viable, comfortable tiny home with a little bit more work. Solar panel up top (found one online for $95), mini fridge (Bought one a while back for $50) some lighting strips in channels ($30-$50), add some insulation, plasterboard, linoleum, a little bit of paint and you got yourself a decent little tiny home for ~$700-$1,000.
Honestly, I like how modular it is. It shouldn't be too hard to add to and rearrange it.
Cool quick shelter build! You mentioned it's windy there. Might be a good idea to secure the structure down.
You have a crazy, fun, kids will never forget it, cabin. I love what you come up with. Thanks for sharing!
That's resourceful! I never would have thought to use old shipping crates for a cabin! 👍
Much tidier but more expensive than my new shed. Mine is made from scrap lumber and the sheet metal taken from walk in freezer insulation. Cost €18 in screws, about the same size. Took longer to build.
nice work. An easy way to pitch a roof a little bit is to start with nothing on one end, and then put 1, then stack 2, then stack 3 etc 2x4's across to screw to
my friend and i built a 2 room corrugated tin shelter for 3 horse. we salvaged the supplies from both our yards. It cost us $21 for screws. 3 hurricanes later, its still there.
James your videos never disappoint me. No matter what mischief you get yourself into.
Love love love this!what a blessing 🙌 you already had a great way to haul them, then all the little extra you had at the site! Your family is sure blessed to have you 😊 way to go!!!
9:20 scared the crap out of me lmaoooo ghost in window
The US government could have built this cabin for one thousand times the cost
Yep😂😂
And 999 supervisors directing the 1 carpenter. 😂😂😂
Why do you hate capitalism so much?
@@ihatehers what does capitalism have to do with these comments/jokes? Just curious.
@@ihatehers
clearly you were never active duty. Jokes not for you. Move along civilian.
This is actually a great idea. I usually buy sheds to make chicken coops out of, but a shipping crate is much cheaper and will the job done
Now that's what I call thinking ,,"inside",, the box
😊
Congrats on breaking 70k LB! I’ve taken your advice and do my projects until they aren’t fun anymore, then come back to them etc. Keep the good content coming.
Oh man! Just found your channel. Instantly subscribed. I have recycled SO many things into new things. Pallets into raised beds, water heaters into woodstoves, pallets into sheds. I've also refurbished old woodstoves, made bbq s from propane bottles. Oh, they make great portable air tanks too. So now I have you to help instigate my schemes. THANKS!!!
Great done
Good job dude. 😊
I been watching several videos on how to make mini cabins and this is what I been looking for.
#minicabin
Love the practical approach, shelter does not have to be that hard. not full time living but works for weeklong adventure outings. You can add a small counter for food prep or even find additional pods to add on.
This is the way I work and fix things for my house and vehicles the extra things always cost more than the project 🙃 great video
I can't tell you how much a turn-on it is to see a man doing a man's work. The strength you used. Awesome job! Wish I had run across you when I was homeless.
You are nuts with the inginuity. Its so cool to see this come together. You have given me so many ideas and so much confidence to handle my own projects.
That was fun for me! Thanks for sharing!
Looks good 👍👌
"Apparently there's lots of ways to have fun." I love this soooo much.
love the cabin build. Just discovered your channel and I appreciate everthing about your approach.
We need a Vice Grip Garage and Puddins Fab shop Low buck garage collab!!!!!
There you go man that works to build your nice little shelter
This is why I am subscribed. Excellent work
When I was a teenager, I built a club house from old pallets old carpets on the inside of the walls, everybody really liked it 👍
Awesome! Very beautiful creative and very useful thanks for the idea
One heck of a building ya got there. Great views. Isn't that how every house in New Mexico is built? LOL!!!! That's how Ricky Rollover builds. He's my nephew. He thinks building like that is just fine. He has an AirBnB that he actually rents out. With a pit toilet and everything. Natural aromas to go with the natural views around his fine AirBnB.
Oh man, a fellow New Mexican!
Subscribed. Love your channel!
Awesome little cabin. 👍
Another way to pitch the roof is to put the crates level, then use a 2x4 on one end of the roof to raise the roof panels on that side. Viola, level floor and sloped roof. Great job and very entertaining.
having a raised roof on top would be better for keeping it cool inside in sunny weather than angling the whole building
Those burritos do sound good!
Love your humor.
i enjoyed the concept. thank you.
Advanced fort building at its best! Great work!
I am going to enjoy these Low-Buck Mining videos!
Great work and video😀
Congrats. again on getting that place, I'm trying no to envy you too much.
Loved this video ❤
I'm actually redoing my shed right now omg epic idea I hope u show us more of this
I would like to get my hands on some of those Crates. I would be perfect to keep a lawn mower out of the weather.
Great build.
A guy really needs a small crane out there to help move cabins. Maybe an old Galion? Great video!
I guess the algorithm saw that I watch Coldwarmotors and it guided me to your channel. One of the very few things TH-cam has done right.
Great job. Awesome Video.😊👌
Way to make shed dwellers feel extravagant.
Love your style. 😎
I've seen that on Gilligans Island. Nice work.👌
Imagine how much better it could be with a little more effort
Always amazing what you can do!
Your motto is the best!
Got a T-shirt with that?!? And a hoodie?!?
Beautiful, your Hired 😊
really enjoyed this one!!!!
Needs a second window to prevent it being too dark. But other than that, a nice place to hang out during a storm!
Nicely done! Personally, as an artist and (when I can concentrate, which isn't anywhere near often enough) as a writer, I find both of them quite fun. I'd love the chance to learn more about workign with wood and metal, but where I live right now, I'm not allowed to fab, and I _hate_ that.
Great job!😮😊
Love it great vid and building
perfect cabin.
that cabin is made out of better quality wood than your average ryan home
New sub, of cause this guy got a mine, the mountains are beautiful what a nice spot.
I see in the background the previous owner making good progress on the cleanup 🤣
Thats a great re-use of the shipping crates. Why did you not take the bus there for them to use?
Pretty cool method! I like it. Is your 'new' place so far out in the boonies that you don't get vandals, scrappers, and people out just to tear stuff up because they are stupid?
Nice unibomber Shack! I hit like & subscribe. Now I expect more exciting and high energy updates.
That is a miners cabin through and through. well done!!!!
Wo. You just changed my life.
This video proves that I will watch you do pretty much anything. Pretty much.
If this guy starts talking about propane, I'm gonna lose it.
Roll that metal cone over, and stand it up. Kitchen and dining room ! Make a woodstove for your new fire resistant space. Cutting out an entrance also gives you a door.
Nice quick cabin build. Fun to watch.
I like it.....without shelter our workshops would be convertibles..........great most of the time...but not all of the time.
I like it
Crazy people living in a box! I gues there was a song about "living in a box!"? As me working dayly on old machinery, your conclusion inspires me how much fun one can have, if once for a while not doing so.
Best wishes from the Bayerwald
JB
Close your eyes and listen to hank hill build a mini cabin. You're welcome
