    “Has Ultraman had crazy crossovers?”
In the 1990s, the original Ultraman teamed up with Kamen Rider, another popular superhero in Japan from a rival company to take down a super Kaiju. They also had video games called Compati Heroes where they interacted with other franchises like Gundam in Chibi form. Lastly, the matriarch of the Ultra Bros, The Mother of Ultra, promoted a fashion line as a model in commercials, tv spots and in magazines.
The movie is its own universe, one that the production crew hopes to continue. There are a lot of easter eggs for tokusatsu fans in this movie, which definitely makes it worth rewatching to find them all.
For example the title card with the swirls is a tribute to the original 1966 show’s opening title which used paint swirling in reverse footage. Also Ken was a kid in 2004, and he has a both a Chogokin and DX Abarenoh/Dino Thunder Megazord. Nice of Tsu Pro to give a bit of love to the competition and makes sense continuity wise in real time as Abaranger was airing its last set of episodes in 2004.

This movie is like a great amalgamation of many elements & references from various Ultraman titles.
Just from the top of my head:
    - The MC is the son of Ultraman who has to inherit the legacy just like in the *Ultraman manga* (which was also adapted by Netflix)
    - This Ultraman seems to transform without using an obvious tool like *Ultraman Jack*
    - The defense force (KDF) doesn’t necessarily side with Ultraman just like TLT/Night Raider in *Ultraman Nexus*
    - The KDF uniform is a fusion between SSSP & Ultra Guard uniforms from *OG Ultraman* & *Ultraseven*
    - Prof. Sato (the dad) got his leg broken, using a crutch that’s similar to Dan Moroboshi (Ultraseven) who is also the mentor for the current Ultraman just like in *Ultraman Leo* show
    - The overall sentiment that humanity need to live in harmony with kaiju was a big theme in *Ultraman Cosmos*
    - Dr. Onda (the antagonist) being the defence organization’s head honcho who hates all kaiju after losing his family member(s) is mirroring Yoichiro Matsunaga, the director of TLT, from *Ultraman Nexus*
    - The Ultraman being boisterous & tend to speak to people freely is just like *Ultraman Zero*
    - The MC’s mother went missing in a mysterious way is very much a major plot in *Ultraman R-B*
    - The kids TV program that Emi watched in the movie is a real thing.
    - Gigantron got modified into Mecha Gigantron is referencing the same thing that happened to Pandon -> Mecha Pandon in *Ultraseven*
    - Gigantron is an original kaiju but you also see classic Ultraman kaiju in this movie like Bemular, Neronga and even Gomora also got mentioned. All of them from *OG Ultraman* in 1966.
    - And many more references not only to other Ultra titles but also a couple Godzilla movies.

    • @SirStrugglesAlot
      @SirStrugglesAlot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      - The father was placed in a Beta Capsule to heal

Seeing how you guys are curious, let me tell you the history of the Ultraman series in which this movie is based.
The first and original Ultraman series aired in 1967 as a sci-fi, special drama, commonly known as Tokusatsu. The story tells of a silver and red alien giant chasing an escaped space kaiju from the Nebula M78, the home galaxy of all Ultras, till they made it to Earth. The giant crashed into the defense force pilot and fused with him as a human host. This is to ensure that not only it will save the pilot's life but to help the alien blend in on Earth while standing by for any upcoming threats, from kaijus to alien invaders, and is then returned to his home planet after his mission was done. After the original series had ended, many new Ultraman series grew into the franchise following the same concept as the first. In some series, sometimes an Ultra would fuse with a human host, or a human can become an Ultraman through some unknown/mystical power.
In this movie, the titular hero's design is based on the original first Ultraman in a different storyline. In the movie's storyline, it is stated that Ken's father is the first Ultraman to descend upon Earth, following the concept of the first series. After some time defending the Earth and having a family, it is likely that the Ultra gene is then inherited through Ken, allowing him to be the next Ultraman. This is the first and new concept where an Ultraman marries a human, and the Ultra gene is then passed on through their child. There have been instances of Ultras having children either with their own or with other races, but this is the first where the child directly inherits the Ultra parent's gene/powers.

Now that I'm done watching the reaction, I'm super happy that y'all enjoyed Ultraman: Rising. I think this was released with perfect timing for a great Father's Day watch, especially if one could enjoy it with their dad and kids. The generational story-telling element brings so much to the watchable experience with family. This is also such a great entry point into the Ultraman-verse because it uses the old elements that made the Ultraman IP what it is, and added all of the new tricks from the advancement in animation and story-telling styles. The Ultraman IP is really rich in the sense of all that it has to offer throughout the years and eras so being a noob with this entry I think would only enrich ones experience diving into the other films and TV-series. Netflix did an anime in 2019 which lasted 3 seasons and ran for 25 mins an episode, and the Shin Ultraman film of 2022 are two great watches. I think Ultraman Max had some uniqueness to it where there was an episode that referenced the airing of the 1964 series Ultra Q which spawned Ultraman. The lore is deep, take a dive and enjoy as much as you can, guys!

I'm commenting before watching just to say I am super happy that y'all are covering Ultraman: Rising! It's a great entry point with no prior knowledge to the Ultraman-verse, and epic for those who've enjoyed it over the years. I remember watching some of the original movies from way back when, a TV-series here and there, read a comic, and played some games featuring Ultraman. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.

Amazing reaction you two. I've been a fan since 2013 and Ultraman has had so many series that are silly, funny, and dark. However Ultraman Rising is a perfect way to start ultraman. And if you're gonna watch the past series, get ready to watch upon hundreds if not thousands of uniqe kaijus and aliens of the franchise that most have unique designs. I loved giant monster media in general such as Godzilla, Ultraman, Power Rangers, and Pacific Rim

I would love to see a sequel. Fingers crossed that this movie will do good enough for Netflix to greenlit it.
With the recent Godzilla Minus One and this movie, there's no doubt that humans are the heart of kaiju media.

Kenji isn't used to it because he doesn't want to be Ultraman, if we see him flying every time he did like super jump thing first, all he knows when he becomes Ultraman is just fighting to get rid of the Kaiju from the city, so he doesn't know many of Ultraman's skills. he couldn't even do a specium beam by himself yet

I’d like to believe that the scene with Emi falling from the tower happened a lot faster than it was portrayed in the movie. I’m pretty sure anyone’s first instinct would be to reach their arm out and catch her, instead of flying up towards her. Emi wasn’t plunging towards the ground either, she still had momentum while falling so it would’ve been harder to predict her fall. I mean the whiplash from Kenji catching her literally dislocated her arm so I’m sure that was a very rough and quick fall nonetheless.

35:35 Notice the billboard in the background of the father holding a baby? Yup, it's a parallel to Ken fully accepting Emi as his daughter and not simply a giant baby he's temporarily fostering until he can give her back to Kaiju Island. Even the way he hesitantly says "Come to, uh... Daddy" indicates that he's responsible for her but hasn't gone Protective Daddy Mode yet. He will VERY SOON!

I have watched this movie so many times and the little details you notice every time you watch are so cool and some are kinda sad:
Like the photo Kenji had in his home with him as a kid and his mom, his dad was either cropped out of it or folded to fit a smaller frame. The original photo was next to the TV in the flashback.
Kenji shaking his leg whenever he’s anxious, he gets it from his dad.
Emi also had car parts in her spit up😂

Remember, Ultraman can fly - it's no problem for him to actually float in water. As for Gigantron and Emi, they're an aquatic race (they're fish eaters, and abhor red meat, hinting that their natural habitat, despite the wings, is the ocean - also, apparently Emi can breathe air and water equally well), so they take to water naturally (okay, Gigantron does - Emi needed a few lessons)

Their story might be similar but i think this is not the same ultraman from 1966, the original host was Hayata and the one in this movie is Sato, also the toy ultraman that ken sato has was the original ultraman form 1966 so that means the Ultraman in this movie is its own version

About the flying thing some people might’ve said it already, but just in case. But yeah he can’t float as in gently float up to get Emi, everytime Ultraman fly he gotta have jump up boost and it goes very fast, like in the actual tower scene, he gotta get a jump start.
I mean it might’ve been possible but he probably need to fine tuned it and Ken Sato is still pretty new as Ultraman so he can’t do it yet.

Wow your first ultraman reaction on the channel... That's super awesome 👍🏿👍🏿🔥🔥🔥😁. Now you have to watch shin ultraman. A modern retelling to the original tv show.
    0:50 you mean super sentai.
    4:40 no it's a new monster.
9:16 y'all really gotta watch the original toho godzilla movies and ultraman and super sentai and kamen rider series to really appreciate all the hard work and love these franchises get. Without those we wouldn't have the monsterverse, pacific rim and all this. Y'all are really missing out
20:03 like how animals do lay eggs. Some of them reproduce a sensually, some of them need a mate and some of them can just lay a egg by themselves.
21:43 you don't choose to be ultraman, ultraman choose you. Ultraman comes from a long line of space heros from a far world who job is to protect the universe from evil. Their hosts will have a divice sometimes it's a watch, glasses, a card, a capsule as long as it's a personal item it'll help the user transform into a ultra hero depending on what hero it is
26:20 this is a reference to invasion of the astro monster aka godzilla vs monster zero. The 6th movie in the franchise where after winning a fight godzilla did the victory dance. This is a popular dance it's called shie
43:59 that's one of ultraman famous kaiju. First enemy he lost to. Then became a good monster over the years. Pretty much pulling a godzilla in the showa era. But unlike godzilla where it depends on the movie/cotenuity if he's a bad guy/antihero/good guy gamora pretty much stayed a good monster
    47:51 hi mothra roar
52:31 instinct. Just because they haven't seen each before doesn't mean that they don't know that they're mother and daughter.
58:39 the Spacium ray is a iconic movie in the ultraman franchise. Remember the kids in this movie has been doing this pose during the whole movie. So it's no surprise that we were gonna see it in action

I’m not super well versed in ultraman lore but:
    1) Ultramen are aliens that either take a human form or bond with a human host, sometimes said hosts have a tool to transform. It’s hinted that Mr.Sato may be an Ultraman who took on a human form (which the direcor confirmed if i'm not misatken) and that Kenji is a ‘human’ who can take on an ultraman form.
    2) Many Ultramen do kill Kaiju during their fights as a last resort, Ultraman Cosmos is a noteable pacsifist though so this take isn’t out of left field
