- While the police academy is putting increased emphasis on teaching recruits to de-escalate confrontations, the recruits still learn the basics. Here they undergo lessons in handcuffing, searching a suspect, self defense and firearms training.
I don't know if I could ever be one, but respect to those who do their job correctly.

I'm starting my physical training now before I finish school so when I apply and hopefully get accepted I'll be ready for the physical training part the rest will just come as time goes on

Let me tell you all a story:
My uncle, Richard Herzog, was a Deputy of the Sheriff's Office of King's County in Washington State. One day, while running down a thief, he was ordered to NOT use his weapon. In the ensuing confrontation, he was shot and killed by the dirtbag. Are there undeserved deaths and harassment at the hands of bad cops? Yes. Are these dickheads the majority? Absolutely not. As with any group, there is always the minority that makes the rest of them look bad. I did not know Richard very well, but it always pisses me off in a special way whenever I see such ignorant, disrespectful disregard for those who work so hard, risk their lives, and sacrifice so much for complete strangers.

i myself considering joining law enforcement. however, my parents discouraged by saying its too dangerous. hell, i dont care about the dangers because we are all going to die one day. no matter what, i will join law enforcement after i finish my studies.

Second, I don't know where you live, but I have never met a single officer that was anything less than reasonable. If I could direct your attention to a comment here by Fearless Films:

Here in TN there is a college ran academy that is 9 weeks. They have the shortest one in the state. It's called Walters State Community College

I was looking this while my nearly five year old child plays beneath me. She didn't react to the shooting noise because she don't know anything about guns and shootings at all. Knowing other kids at her age needs to understand this can be lifethreatening for themselfes or others tears my heart. I'm very happy she can grow up in a safe country.
When she is older she will learn soon enough, her grandpa was a police officer.

If you want to work in a crime laboratory as a Criminalist you will need at least a 4-year degree in science (such as Biology, Chemistry or Forensic Science). ... Some agencies require you to be a sworn police officer before becoming a Crime Scene Investigator-most do not.

The 1st amendment up through the 6th amendment should be taught at all police academies in the country. Many police departments are lacking in understanding citizens Constitutional rights. We need a change.

It sounds like every students must know and fully understand the rules in order to be a fully qualified cop. I’ve always wonder what will the outcome be like if every law enforcement officers or cops know martial arts for example MMA?

I remember in grade school..5th grade I believe I thought I'd like to be a police officer. But I also wanted to be a philanthropist. Someone keeps saying Someone would make a good police officer but I know matter of fact it's not me. I'd make a lousy police officer now..or even over the last 20 years. I don't even fancy the position anymore. Whoever you are, keep trying while you have mind, body, and spirit.

I think that he did fine, it doesnt sound like hes serious because hes training and he needs to know everything before he face the reality and that when he has to take it serious.
Our instructors use to tell us, if you do like this in training, you'll do thay like that on the streets.

Instead of focusing on focusing on using of power they could of gave them extra lessons on working under psychological pressure. No wonder US is the 1st country in incarceration rate. Teach them how to serve and respect citizens not to shoot them. Greeting from UAE to the peaceful US citizens
Police training in California is 6 months, and 3 months alone are classes about things of that nature. Also, we have a high incarceration rate because L.A. alone has almost as many citizens as your entire country.

Black lives matter and many of those other people you see on social media who try and tell officers how to do their job should go through police academy and spend 1 day on the job.
I think I need training for getting arrested. I don't think I can follow those instructions when I'm panicking (gun pulled) and the police officer is nervous as hell.
