I really enjoyed the video. A word of encouragement. Watch your video. Sometimes when we are nervous about things we repeat words a little to often. But great job with your demonstration.
I love making snap bags. I make larger ones with strap type handles. I also make a lot of them out of soft black vinyl that I’ve embroidered on.Especially for makeup accessory bags or tablet bags.
Great video! Very easy to understand. You make french seams sound so simple! Thanks for giving measurements and how to adjust for different sized bags. Thank you for your time and talent!
I loved your video. Easiest to follow. One observation, cut interfacing about 1/4 inch smaller than fabric. I found that there was an awful lot of bulk in the seams which kept it from completely closing.
I LOVE that you showed in the beginning which fabrics are used for each part of the bag (showing a finished one side by side with the fabric cuts). I wish all fabric project tutorials would do this. Also really appreciated you explaining how to easily adjust the size for other snap bags. Thank you for a wonderful tutorial! 🥰
I just watched your video. And it is just so much simpler than other videos. I have watched period I can't wait to start making these. Thank you so much for your awesome video.
This was an easy to follow tutorial, thank you. I put the measuring tape in like you said,it will push closed but when you let go it snaps right back open. I triple checked that it was in correctly. I welcome any ideas how to fix this, thank you.
Regarding tape measures , the cheap ones from the Dollar store are not suitable unless you double the strips. It’s important that you round off the corners of the tape measure before wrapping it with the electric tape or duck tape. Even if you cover the metal the corners will poke thru with use. Also if you are going to demo you need to do it for real. The quick ironing will not melt the glue correctly. You need to press it for the correct time, normally 5 seconds, over the whole thing. The quick ironing will separate with use
I found a beginner sewing class that was making these as the first project and decided to look on TH-cam for a tutorial as an alternative. I believe you gave all the info I need in a clear, direct way. I hope purchase interfacing & measuring tape tomorrow to give it a try! Thank you!

Hi Lisa! I love this tutorial; you are an excellent teacher and your instructions are clear and so easy to follow. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I made 6 of these snap bags today and they are all adorable. I would love to make snap eyeglass cases but I am not great at figuring out the dimensions of the exterior and lining fabric. I would love it if you could please do a tutorial if possible, or tell us what dimensions we would need to use. I'm sure your subscribers would love it too! Thanks again!
As long as you make your inside fabric at least 4 inches longer than the outside fabric it will work. So, measure your case that you want to make and add at least 4 inches for the turn down for the measuring tape to fit in and room to sew. Good luck as I am the same way.
@@brendakrigner-himmelrick9665 After 3 prototypes it worked out great and I made a baker's dozen eyeglass cases! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial and for your advice!
@@sewdarncreative774. Please it would be so helpful to have the dimensions you came up with for the glasses cases. I would love to give these as gifts! ❤
Loved it! How do you make the snap bags actually close tho I noticed the few you showed don't really close or stay shut is that because of the French seam? New person sewing here so I don't know how to fix that
Love this bag. And 😉 the tip you gave about taping the end back on the tape measure was really a no - brainer BUUUT I didn't think of doing that before you mentioned it. So, i appreciate your advice on doing that 😉 i have a suggestion about the interfacing, though. If you cut it about 1/4 inch smaller on all sides, it won't be as bulky when you sew the bag together - specially when sewing the French Seam. 😉 And, yes, there are many types of interfacing, and, each type has different directions as to how to adhere it to the fabric. So, it would be a good practice to hold your iron in place over it a few seconds per section to allow the interfacing's glue to adhere to your fabric. Plus, some brands require steam to make it adhere. This is a wonderful video, though. TYSM for sharing it with us. Love the pattern and the fabrics you used for it. (Will prob go and get a cheap metal tape measure soon fo i can make one of these bags. 😉😻❣️😍
I really enjoyed this video and my first thought was that I would like to have the little tab for the clip. I see that you did that on one of them. Can you please tell me when you put that in the seam? I have made these many times but I like the finished French seam.
You're an excellent teacher! I made a glasses case in this method, and the top didn't work out quite right, but I'm going to have another go tomorrow. Thanks
Kindness please. No need for negative comments. I have used the Dollar tree rulers and have had no problems with them. I did round my corners off when I cut the ruler before I put my tape on.

Another great alternative that I’ve found but I think my favorite is by leaving the opening in the lining and pulling everything through Still a good tutorial

Just thankful there’s no background music. Now that really drives me nuts. I keep forgetting the tutorial and listening to the music. Not good!
This is a wonderful tutorial and I’m so pleased with the five I have made so far. My big issue is that it doesn’t close tight enough. Does the tape measure make a difference? I am using dollar store ones. My next bag will be for my IPad and I want to get the advice on to make a better closing.
I would recommend buying a tape measure from a hardware store. I made a large bag for my laptop using a tape measure I bought from Home Depot. They cost a little more but you can still make lots of bags from one tape measure.
Hey 'you guys' if you really want a snap bag the rounded side of the metal tape go in the other way. When finished the two rounded sides meet INSIDE the bag.
Step #5 in the blog post tells you how long to cut the tape measures based on the size of bag I made. funstuffcrafts.com/2022/03/17/the-best-way-to-make-a-snap-bag/
I want to make several different sizes. Can you tell me how many inches to add. Say I want to make a 4x6 size. The outside fabric should be a 8x9 piece?
Here is my blog post and you would add the tabs in step six after you trim the sides and when you turn the bag. funstuffcrafts.com/2022/03/17/the-best-way-to-make-a-snap-bag/ you will slip the tab in before you sew the first side seam.

You really need to adhere your fusible interfacing correctly so you don't mislead new sewists. You've got to keep your hot iron in the same place for several seconds so the adhesive will activate
I find it helpful to run the iron over the fabric just before I lay the interfacing down. That way the fabric is already heated some. I also never use steam to attach interfacing.
