Mihawk looks near perfect in my opinion, when i saw him the first thing that i thought was “that is mihawk”
I thought the same thing, but Shanks was looking like a low budget Ryan Gosling
He needs a French accent to honour the golden 4kids dub. Also Sanji's Bri'ish accent is funny
@@Devilboy_1029 sanji is a royalty, every royalty has to has brit accent. Even tho he should've been french
Looks exactly the same it’s crazy
That's not the problem here, i think it shouldn't be hard to make humanoid char look good. Especially with this type of budged
The extra makeup they used to make Roger look “grimy” like a pirate when close up was amazing. They’re making the live action more pirate like & im here for it🔥🔥
I actually liked Buggy naming his attack; it didn’t feel forced to me.
My main complaints are pretty much everything you said about Arlong, like, his size is immediately apparent, and I know we’re comparing to the anime, but he does feel like a lot less of a threat.
yeah he named his attack so perfectly
Now that you mentioned it, Luffy’s fights with all the villains do look like they mostly take place at night…
And with hindsight, this could be a symbolic choice. Luffy is suppose to bring the dawn to the world… so what if by the time he ends every fight, the sun is beginning to rise?
That actually sounds so cool! And I mean being joyboy, facing his enemies at their strongest and knocking them down a peg or two, I think this stylized choice makes a lot of sense
its to help hide the CGI. that's why alot of movies last epic battles are dark at night because its easier to see CGI in bright light
It's probably coz CGI looks more realistic in dark environments. Lots of superhero movies do this too
I absolutely loved Zoro and Sanji arguing over who saved who's ass. And Taz Skylar as Sanji. His voice and accent compliments the vibe of Sanji's character in a different but very nice way.
It's kind of weird he's not French. Like at all Taz Skylar doesn't have French roots, but he's got sanji's suave personality and his hard kicks. I think he's Sanji for sure. Someone was concerned his accent was British, but it's not a turn off
Him saying Arse instead of ass was just hilarious and so Sanji for some reason
Yeah their banter is great here. And I agree, Taz Skylar's accent fits Sanji.
Yes, Sanji's character works surprisingly well with that British accent. Sanji is my favorite character and I'm really happy how he looks and talks. He's buff asf too, which is nice.
It was a surprise but I love that Sanji sounds European. It's the first hint that he's from a completely different region. I'm wondering if other North Blue characters will follow suit.
I was pretty skeptical about a live action one piece but I’m not gonna lie it looks like a really fun time
This trailer made me do a 180. I'd dismissed it entirely after the first. I actually kinda wanna watch this now.
watching the trailer gave me the same feeling as if i turn on an episode, and if it can do that ....i am not worried
@@10k-Noodles Same, lol
that's why u have to be Open minded with things
It will disappoint
Your complaint about Arlong is kind of funny considering I think the first half of the fight between him and Luffy is basically just Arlong tanking everything and talking about how weak humans are and that they could never hurt him. But overall I think I agree it looks way better than the teaser and I'm actually kind of excited to see the story changes, though this time around I think my weird feeling was about the voices but I'll probably get used to them over time.
I bet hes gonna remove his shirt showing his tattoo and getting buff by mere anger or using the drug Hody used.
i am going to think of it like switching from subbed to dubbed or vice versa. takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it's not a dealbreaker.
The trailer actually brought me to tears! That shot of nami with the log pose to me is so perfect. Whatever flaws the final product may have, moments like these for me will justify the entire project.❤
Me too! I was crying so hard with excitement. 😭❤️😭❤️😭❤️😭
I didn’t really mind Buggy screaming the attack name, sounded way better than I worried it would. I wouldn’t have wanted them to skip it either, so this is really the best outcome I personally could have hoped for.
Buggy using his Chop-Chop Fruit power in live action is pretty unnerving to look at.
It goes to show why Devil Fruit users are feared and seen as freaks by the normal civilians of One Piece world.
It actually sounded a bit terrifying.. like imagine a clown chopped in the air, throwing knives at you AND screaming an attack.. I'd be paralysed by the absurdity..
@@chrispap4766 Plus you got to dodge those floating hands with knives and body parts and watch out to not get hit by them.
Zoro got hit due to letting his guard down at Buggy.
I think it probably would have been better if he didn't shout it at all personally.
@@GiRR007 Maybe, but in a way I appreciate how much effort they put into staying "authentic" to OP. Since there are many named attacks in the anime and they say it out loud, I guess it makes sense. Buggy's actor did do a pretty great job of making a shouted attack name sound scary imo. Still I agree with you too, it does seem a bit goofy, but ig that is the op we know and love lol
I want this to succeed.
Badly.
I want to see how they would handle the alabasta saga.
I wanna see how they handle Duval.
I wanna see the fake strawhats.
Hell, MARINEFORD would be MINDBLOWING to see in live action.
You kidding me? How about SKYPEA in real live action? WOooooT!
@captaindeo that'd be sick. Enies lobby too
We’d be waiting a looooooooong time for the later things. Like, decades until Marineford. For now, I could see us having whiskey peak to the end of Alabasta within the next five years if this does really well.
While all of that is true, I NEED a second season at minimum because I need to know how they handle Chopper and who they cast as Robin. Even if it turns out terrible, I need to know.
i wonder who they'll cast for Enel though, imagine Eminem
One Piece is probably the most difficult manga/anime to adapt in Live action and I think they have done a great job IMO. They have a great cast and are even having the original Japanese anime voice actors doing the Japanese dub
Even if it doesn't turn out perfect I think I can confidently say Netflix is putting their all into this it definitely isn't half assed never thought I'd be excited for an anime live-action adaptation let alone a one piece one but here we are
I believe Arlong was one of the more difficult characters to pull of together with his Fishmen crew. It is still surprisingly good considering how difficult it most likly was to make him recognisable.
Heres my idea for Arlong, instead of Nami fleeing, Arlong came to Baratei to take her back
Money
Quite ballsy especially there's Lieutenant Fullbody who would contact Smoker on speed dial.
yeah, thats a good one. Arlong was looking for Nami and send Chew and Kuroobi there to fetch her. Then the crew went after them.
Ee saw along park
that is most likely what is happening there
Seeing the Arlong Arc start at Baratie and move to Nami’s home island is a nice twist. It’ll show us her “true” colors beforehand and will make Luffy decide quicker for having her on the crew. I’m also glad we didn’t get spoiled on the biggest moment of Arlong Park. Luffy seeing Genzo with his Pinwheel hat.
hes also at the Buggy circus if you look closely on one shot
True story, Oda got light backlashes after Syrup Village Arc wasnt interesting enough and he thought Baratie Arc is going to be as „empty“ as the previous arc so he decided to introduce the Shishibukai earlier by including Mihawk. That way the Baratie Arc felt more packed.
Now, the Live Action includes another Villain besides Don Creek. Seriously, the Baratie Story in the Live Action is going to be filled with story lines even though I dont know when exactly Arlong should appear. Like, before or after Don Creek fight?
@@jdx478correct me if I am wrong but neither the teaser nor the trailer hinted anything about don creek, pearl or the other dude sanji safed. I think they cut Don Creek out and rearange it with a first arlong encounter.
@@Vracka Don Creek got casted by a known actor. I hope he doesnt get cut short tho
@@jdx478My theory: after all the action has finished at baratie, Arlomg comes to "recover" Nami and bring her back
I love how they made fishmen similar to how some aliens are made in star trek, which is probably the best way to go about making a creature that looks sort of human but not really in my opinion, but arlong could've been bigger, like, actually look very buff
I do agree with you. I hope we get to see some muscle from arlong to maybe help the "absolute demon" aesthetic his amazing design gives
The actor actually has a big build i think the prosthetic on the face made his body look smaller
@@matthewbladow504The actor’s 6’1
@@matthewbladow504should have casted Martyn Ford as Arlong.
That gatling gun effect is really good.
It really has that rubber bouncing feel
I agree! It looks so good.
my only complaint about the trailer is the severe lack of usopp.
Saving the best for the real thing.
Right? I think he's the Strawhat we've seen the least of in these trailers. I wanna get a bigger feel for him
That's my only complaint for the Manga as well 😆
Well he didn't have a big role for most of the early arcs
I don’t think we’ve heard him speak yet. We’ve heard Arlong before Usopp, I wonder if there some controversy here
Absolutely agree on Arlong. Manga/Anime Arlong was a guy who got punched clear through a wall and didn't even bruise and who blocked a sword strike with his nose just to grandstand. And his bulk reflected that.
I'm willing to ignore the Arlong problems though in exchange for having the Zoro and Sanji fights look as good as they do in these trailers. That was absolutely one of my biggest concerns and I'm so glad that they made it work.
My guess is that the "calling out your finishing moves" only applies to devil fruit users in this world. As a way to activate their powers
I hope that's true.
That's gonna be my headcanon for the live action. The definitely shouldn't have tho, it just sounds dumb.
luffy can still shout his move but someone like crocodile would feel out of place. i would like rather than speaking it out loud, i would love that they make it like they became a narrator in a moment and said their move names,
@@GilangD21 I think they can pull it off if they deliver it properly, but it's gonna be hard.
@@GilangD21*suna suna no ken*
The designs for Roger, Shanks, Mihawk, Arlong, and Koby looked so good 😱🔥
Shanks, Usopp, Zoro, and Luffy look the best. Mihawk, Koby, Nami, and Garb look mediocre. Roger, Shanks, and Arlong not so much imo. Also the speech Roger gives is lacking.
@@JrlokerfloorxKoby is on point.
They all wack
@@YFB200 well, they all wack if you expect all characters to be the same anime design and appearance.
Koby looks like such a dweeb... it's perfect
I'm really interested in the way they fused Baratie and the fishman stuff. We do know that they have Don Krieg casted there, so two threats should somehow coexist.
I really wish we could have seen Krieg fight Arlong
I'm guessing the situation is similar to Thriller Bark. The strawhats defeat Don Krieg, Mihawk appears and everyone but Nami and Usopp are out of commission when Arlong appears. Nami then may or may not come with him willingly.
Oh for a moment I was shocked that they omitted Krieg an Gin.. 😲
1. Mihawk appears
2. Don Krieg fights Luffy and loses
3. Arlong appears
They're probably gonna hype up Arlong so he'll go there to get Nami and make an example out of Krieg.
I wish we had gotten more Usopp, but he has some great shots, especially his swagger in the Baratie. I think it'll be a good show at least.
Probably racism
@@60bangz 🤡
@@60bangzMost likely tbh, both the teaser and this Usopp doesn't get a lot of scenes, so skeptical about how they're treating the actor
@@ulzzang5671 you kids call anything racism
@@sleepboss6889 Continue being blind, how come the only black person in the group doesn't get enough scenes like the others?
My thoughts for the characters:
Roger looks just like how I imagined him in live action, and I love that smile.
Garp looks great too, and I like how the marines look like legit soldiers, as supposed to guys in sailor uniforms.
The seagull could have become an actual pet on the Straw Hat crew. It's funny, because the marines keep confusing Chopper for a pet.
Alvida looks OK. She's overweight like in the manga/anime, but I'm curious how they do her personality.
Merry getting ambushed by Kuro looks like something out of a slasher movie. A good shot.
Buggy is getting even better! Like you said, it balances out the comedic clown and scary clown perfectly.
The fishmen first appearing at the Baratie is interesting. I think they're doing it to hype up Arlong. The main villain.
Speaking of Arlong, I agree he looks great in the shadows, but not too great in daylight. He reminds me more of an orc from LOTR with a deformed nose. Hopefully, they handle Nami's backstory well enough, that the trauma Arlong inflicted on her will more than make up for his design. He IS the main villain after all.
Shanks looks cool, and Mihawk is PERFECT! The outfit, the beard, the mustache, and even the eyes are spot on. Koby looks good too.
I also love the wanted posters, especially Bellamy's. He looks just as mean and insane as in the manga/anime. I'm looking forward to late August!
i was underwhelmed with Roger but the short clip of him smiling sadistically & you can see his sickness very noticeably in his face was a great shot
This trailer really sold me on the crew dynamic. The banter feels very true to the manga. I also love that the show seems to understand that One Piece delves into several genres, as we got some comedy, drama, horror, action, and adventure.
Luffy's GATLING GUN looks INCREDIBLE 😎
It looks so much better than what I was expecting! Very satisfying!
Seriously!! It looks so good
The thing you said about along with his height is going to be my biggest problem with the larger characters in One Piece. Brook, Franky, Jinbei, 3 admirals, Garp, Sengoku, Big Mom and Kaido, Black Beard, Whitebeard.. I get translating them to be more realistic is what they are doing, but it's going to take away from all of them and feel like it's going to downplay their strengths and how menacing they are.
Big Mom isn’t big anymore 😂
The thing I was the most impressed with is the clothes! It's complete normal! Nothing flashy and overwhelming like other anime!
Something I appreciated when watching the teaser, I absolutely adored seeing in the trailer and that was seeing the Straw Hats wear different outfits between arcs. Yes, that happens now, but back before the timeskip, especially during East Blue, it never happened with Nami being the sole exception. And one outfit in particular stood out to me during the shots at Baratie. You see Usopp wearing a classic captain's coat and tricorne. He looks almost exactly as he does in Oda's beta drawings for the series. If that doesn't scream how much love and care went into this show, I don't know what will.
You say that but look at how ungodly goofy and unthreatening the fishmen look, or Mihawk's plastic sword, or how Sanji doesn't have his curly eyebrows
@@CoylerProductionsit literally doesn't matter
@@CoylerProductions as if one piece wasn't the goofiest thing ever, the suspension of disbelief necessary to watch the series allows for the ginormus swords to be plastic
They said that everyone of the Strawhats’ Outfits are from all of the different Color Walks Oda~sensei released over time; especially before he went Post Time Skip with the events of the story. So all of these outfits are technically Canon and found to be inspired by original drawings of the Strawhats he did soo long ago in different outfits 😸
It looks far better than I was expecting. Will I actively enjoy it alongside the anime and manga? No.
Will I watch it as a landmark of the story and an achievement by Oda? Absofuckinglutely.
I am glad to know that many people WILL enjoy this. I hope it's a beacon of quality compared to all the other terrible Live Action shows out there even if I'm not the target of it.
Ur a hater
Same thoughts here. I never expected it to out-do the manga or anime, but its definitely surpassed all my live action expectations.
I think the key to enjoying it is not comparing it to manga/anime for each and every scene. They have to tweek some things to make them filmable with their budget. I will look at it as its own thing and I doubt I will have my time wasted.
I think it wil do decent tbh
after seeing this, getting more hyped then I should, and watching 20 reactions to the trailer, I can safely say, I REALLY wish for a full season of just alabaster. it would be SO nice.
People can't open their minds to something new, I'm so excited for this series
It actually looks good, it's almost hard to believe. One Piece is up there as one of the most unadaptable works of fiction that I can imagine and I am sure many many agree. The enthusiasm of the young Luffy actor alone is enough to respect it, the kid is trying there is no doubt. That is a hard character to take on.
It probably would be hard to adapt if they plan to make sequels as long as the manga and the anime
@@austinsnyder8743yeah i think at best they would get to Alabasta or Water7
@@veruskatorres9276 my point is even if the movie is good… what was the point? The franchise is already successful without this movie.
@@austinsnyder8743it’s an 8 episode series not a movie - and it’s just to attract more western audiences
And its still unadaptable since this looks terrible 😂
My only worry is no Johnny and Yosaku casting so far but that’s a minor gripe! EVERYTHING ELSE IS GETTING ME HYPE
I mean... they may've been cut from the live action if indeed Arlong is at Baratie then Yosaku and Johnny have no need to be there to inform the others that Nami betrayed them.
They're sweet but in the long term they're quite superfluous to the series in general and are easily replacable in that senae.
@@JustAnotherPerson4U Yeah, I can see thier roles as exposition about Arlong being taken up by Zeff or another Baratie cook (they share the same sea so they must have heard tales about him, especially with his bounty), they might have some trouble with explaining where Zoro gets his temp swords after two of his break after his fight with Mihawk but that is easy to overcome.
I can also see them dropping Giamon as his chapter feels very skippable.
They are unnecessary when adapting 100 chapters of manga to 8 episodes of TV:
My fear is that we don't see the dog from orange town😢
@@12BEMO I can see him getting cut depending on where Buggy's tent is located, if it is on land I can see keeping the dog as an easter egg but if the tent is part of Buggy's ship then I'm sorry.
I feel like it looked way better then I was expecting, especially after the teaser! Still curious about the end result, but just the act of Luffy putting his straw hat on Nami kinda hooked me in.
I want this to succeed and become an actual show people watch with a full story and actually goes to the end just like the anime 😊
My interpretation of the scene with zoro in the well was that that is him realizing how far away from his goal he is when he gets beaten by mihawk. I think there's actually a line in the manga where Mihawk tells him something like: "Frog in a well, know your place".
A fever dream he gets after the fight maybe yeah
Mihawk said it in way so Zoro could go experience the world outside of EastBlue, get stronger, and challenge him again. B/c Zoro was literally ready to die since he lost (“scars on the back of the sword men is a shame.”)).
Imagine One Piece becoming one of the best live action series from anime! Win-win for us lol

The fact that they teased Cavabdish is INSANE
If they make it to wano I be very surprised
For promo shots and hype it's cool to see Nami with the crew during the Arlong Park walk, but I'm worried Nami being there might detract from the emotional impact of being at her lowest point asking Luffy for help. Almost like she get's over it too quickly. But maybe Luffy has a "come with me" moment, instead of silently just giving her his hat and walking away. It could still work, I'm just worried.
Agree. That moment is so important to Nami’s character. It’s the accumulation of 8 years of carrying the weight of an entire village and then finally collapsing under it. And then not just asking for help but putting her and the villages life in the hands of people she can trust. It’s a big deal I hope they do it justice.
At first, I thought it was weird how Nami joins Luffy and Zoro at Shells town, but then I think about how having Inaki be carried off by a giant bird and dropped into Orange town from the sky would be kinda... weird in live-action. Also I hope we get too someone like Doflamingo in the crowd at Roger's execution.
I hope Netflix has the budget to make the rest of the 1 thousand episodes of the anime😂❤
I see your comment everywhere. But it's not gonna be thousands, only the important parts included.
They compressed the whole East Blue saga into 8 episodes. I don't think it's gonna reach a thousand episodes. My prediction is that the second season will be about Alabasta with reverse mountain and Chopper arc included.
one piece anime is 1000+ episodes only because it's playing catch up with the ongoing manga, so it has to do with filler scenes and horrible pacing. if, let's say, one piece does seasons like a proper anime does, from beginning to wano it would probably be 300-400 episodes, which is still a lot but hey it's not 1000
😂
with 8 episodes each season, imo season 2 will focus on 3 island after reverse mountain (secret garden, drum island and alabasta) and the 3rd season more 3 island (jaya, skypea and water 7), closure of red line 4th season will be impel down, thriller bark and saboudi archipelago
wish that marine ford saga will be made into 2 season cos so much detail that
That Foxy cameo at the end caught me OFF GUARD in the best of ways! I'm way too excited about this!
Seeing this trailer today massively increased the hype for this. It looks so good in general. Casting and CG devil fruits look great and I think it's going to be worth watching.
It looks to me like they're trying to honour the anime instead of trying to recreate it which I love. Live action is a different medium and requires different ways of telling a story than animation does. Things are going to be different and that's good. So far it looks like they're managing to capture the spirit of One Piece and I for one can't wait to see what is different from the anime and manga because it leaves room for surprises.
Yeah but that's the core issue with LA anime, in that they try so hard not to be faithful to the manga/anime and try to deliberately do things their own way, and that mostly ends up not pleasing anyone and not being entirely faithful. If anime can be as faithful to the manga, then I don't see why it's impossible for LA to do the same, instead of taking the same path that leads to failure.
well said!! i'm just grateful to be able to see this live action adaptation of the epic masterpiece that is One Piece in our lifetime!
Everything you said I agree with, if you meant it's adapting the manga. The anime is too literal.
@@ivanwilliams7413 I love the anime as it is because it's a format that can work as a direct translation but live action can't. If they tried to do it, the end result would be awful. Firstly, the actors age and there's more than 20 years worth of material. Secondly, that's boring! We already have the anime so the live action is an opportunity to give us something new. A new take on our favorite story. As long as they stay true to the themes of One Piece and the feel of it then I'm sure it'll be great. It's like the LOTR movies! They're fantastic even though they take a tonne of liberties because they keep the themes intact.
Unfortunately that’s not the case. There are things that they DON’T have to change. Things that were impactful specifically because of how they were in the manga or anime. If they change those things just to make a quippy joke or change the sequence of events altogether, then it’s not going to be impactful. And unfortunatly I’m getting real “marvel movie” vibes from some of the jokes.
I've just been thinking about how the actors for Garp and Coby must have been filming with no idea how much insane power and story focus they would be showing off in the manga by the time the series came out. If the series continues, I'm looking forward to watching how they try to capture Coby's glow up
Imagibe they go on a hiatus for two years so the actors irl grow up so they look older
@@MarcyTheKindaCoolWizard except that will be at least 5 years from now in real time, so it might actually be harder to hide how much real world time passes, compared to the short amount of time that is supposed to pass in world
I like that the live action is already giving itself Easter eggs like the Bellamy wanted poster. Shows it plans being continued
I'm hyped for this. The hat on Nami's head brought back so many feels.
I was watching the trailer with my sister and when Buggy yelled "Chop chop canon!" She couldn't stop laughing. I think that's because it's weird to hear an actual person say that out loud in real life, but I'm glad that the people working on this show are maintaining the goofy aspects of it. One Piece wouldn't be what it is without the comedy.
My biggest problem with Arlong is, that he's to small.
Agreed, he needs muscles and some height.
Exactly, they could’ve either casted someone taller and more buff, or have the actor buff up for the role.
Truuue
Yeah and based on some pics it seems they made Morgan pretty big.
🤔
Best review I’ve seen of the trailer! 100% agree with all the points you made. The gum gum Gatling looks great, and I’m hoping the rest of the show can nail most if not all of its action sequences to pair with the great dialogue we’ve gotten so far.
As someone who grew up watching the German dub hearing the exact same voice actors again brought a tear to my eyes.
They could've made Arlong's body a little more buff with body suit or somethng (like what they did in Shazam). He kinda looks lackluster but other than that, it looks so much better. I wasn't sold on the teaser trailer also but it grew on me as time went by.
As long as he’s taller than luffy it’s good but yea a buff suit would’ve been better.
Shanks looks amazing! I really hope he says the "put your life on the line" line. For those of you who have never heard of Peter Gadiot who is playing Shanks, he was in Queen of the South. I highly recommend it. He is fantastic in it. And Buggy looks great too. The dude playing him was in Agents of S.H.I.E.LD. I don’t know who is playing Roger but he might as well be Johnny Depp. You can even see Dragon in his green cloak on the right in that shot looking up at the execution platform at the trailer's 7 second mark. And I think we see Bellemere too. I think she is the female Marine in dark blue we see running at 26 seconds into the trailer. It looks like Arlong is at Buggy's big top and Baratie. I'm going to guess that he is tracking Nami and he catches up to them at Baratie. Nami saying “You’ll have the excuse them, they're idiots" is to Arlong and she is trying to spare their lives as she betrays them. I was wondering if there were going to reference to things that aren't referenced in the original East Blue manga like the other supernovas & it looked like I was right because we see a reference to Foxy, Bellamy & Cavendish. They weren’t referenced in the original East Blue Saga. My only complaints are that I’m not sure if I'm a fan of Luffy naming the crew himself. He doesn’t think that far ahead. Unless they give him a line where he makes it clear he came up with it on the spot. The other thing that we are two trailers in and Usopp hasn’t actually said anything. It’s probably not on purpose but he’s a main character.
Roger seems very similair to Devon Larratt :D Armwrestling King Piece!
Shanks kinda looks like a fake Ryan Gosling
roger played a role on pirates of carribean as a naval officer, i heard he was supposed to play jack sparrow but disney opted for depp instead.
I put off watching the trailer untill just now. I usually hate live actions and don't really understand why we keep making them. But today I thought "what the hell lets give it a chance". And it made me so emotional... It really hit the nostalgia hard. And I didnt even cringe once at the trailer!
Great video and love how you broke it down and talked about it. I can't wait for it to come out
This trailer felt a lot more One Piece to me right from the get go unlike the teaser. The teaser had some lines where i wasn't so sure, but absolutely everything slammed here!! I am so damn excited and i hope you will be covering more of this, Liam and i hope that the One Piece community as a whole can give this a chance at well, because it looks well worth it
Well, a teaser is a teaser, the final product is never show there
That wasn't the final product
The way I picture the scene of Buggy is like the Buggy Pirates are doing their circus antics and Buggy is calling the shots, and suddenly the human parts start to fly by, he does his surprise attack calling the Chop Chop Canon, and I think that would be great for someone like Buggy who is theatrical and I can see Luffy being like "see?! I was right!" in response to it.
I am pleasantly blown away but how much they’ve exceeded my expectations. Like I had already set the bar pretty low so I wouldn’t be as disappointed. But this trailer actually has me really hyped!
This looks amazing and I am pumped to see how they put everything on screen. I love absolutely everything about this trailer and it gives the real One Piece adventure feeling. Can't wait, this will be so good
What has me hopeful is how many references to future characters there are. From what I understand the first season is supposed to only be the East Blue saga (I assume ending as they climb Reverse Mountain) and the amount of references to later parts of the series makes me hopeful that the creators have enough confidence in what they've made to be able to make these references so early on.
Or maybe they're just so sure it's going to sell because of One Piece that they know the quality won't actually matter and they'll probably be able to afford to make the entire series off namesake alone.
I agree I would like a larger, more muscular Arlong. Even prosthetics or a body suit if not CGI
It seems to me that the scene on the sea with the red flare might be a trap by the Buggy pirates, like happened at the beginning of Thriller Bark. Could be a way to get Luffy and Co. in Buggy's path since Luffy's not about to be carried of by a giant bird.
Speaking of birds, I love the small details in the trailer, like the attitude the newscoo gives Luffy before flying off. Or Zoro's shirt having weird blood splatter stains in the blacklight of the Buggy scene, and Zoro's attacks drawing actual blood in his fight scenes. So excited for the actual episodes.
One thing I'm actually thankful for is that the live action is taking advantage of the fact it is adapting a long running series and seeding late game characters without ruining pacing or it being in your face like with the bounties.
5:05 I think this is actually a conceptual shot of Zoro being a "frog in the well" as told my Mihawk when they faced. A poetic metaphor indicating the sheer gap in their sword skill.
Could be wrong though.
I was blown away when Luffy said they were the Straw Hat's. I thought it was going to be the name they got at the end of the first season when Luffy gets his first bounty after beating Arlong.
Yeah I'm a little sad about that. I liked the idea of the Navy being the ones giving the nicknames to the crews and the crews just going with it. But it isn't a big deal
I would never have thought how hyped I'd get for this. I don't care much about life action at all. But how they introduced the cast and showed them having fun and being so faithful to the original with all those eastereggs and details... Man, it just got me excited. And I'm curious about what they will do differently than in the manga. Can't wait!
Keep up the great work and videos Liam
I think Zoro in a well is a visualization of Mihawk's speech to Zoro about him being great "only" in East Blue, and the world is bigger than what it seems from "the well". Zoro later give the same speech to Octopus Swordsman in FI.
I’m actually looking forward to it. I can’t see this surpassing the Manga (or even early parts of the anime), but the pure care that’s clearly put into it make’s me excited and think it’ll be a good time regardless
i think the zoro scene at 5:06 is going to be during the fight with mihawk. it's going to be a sort of realisation scene for him where he realises that he is just a frog in a well unaware of how large the world actually is.
The Roger speech at the beginning got me excited, seeing more of Luffy’s stretching gave me hope that it’ll look good and not odd/poorly executed, and then I saw the snippets of the “help me” scene and I was sold. I can already tell that they will honor that incredibly important scene and it’ll have as big of an impact on the series as it did in the manga
Every character looks good in my opinion. It is going to be a good series
Shanks could be better though
Of course it's gonna be good, the only bad thing about one piece is how long it is and that sometimes oda writes bad character deaths, hopefully they fix those problems
Even if the movie is good, what is the point? Are they planning to make sequels as long as the anime and manga series?🤨🧐
I really really really want this to succeed. It looks so good and they have a lot of love for the source material.
I absolutely love the whole "saved your ass" moment in the trailer. Especially the difference in pronunciation. I love that this show is international, it fills me with happiness.
I like how at the end they showed the wanted posters of both Bellemy and Foxy, showing that they are already casted and how far they are already set up for
I don't know about others but after nearly 15yrs of reading manga and watching anime, I can say I loved this trailer (most of the parts) and I'm willing to watch the series.
Seems like they didn’t show much about Loguetown, excited to see Smoker and Dragon’s abilities. Also they nailed Buggy!!
This full trailer definitely helped us a lot by showing us more Luffy doing his attacks, Buggy unleashing his chop body lol and Arlong in action himself. Plus Zoro with Sanji at each other and see just Kuro's claws lol also you can see Bellamy's wanted poster at the end.
For the zoro in the well scene, I believe it was during zoro vs mihawk when mihawk said "the frog in the well does not know the vastness of the world" and that scene was like a visual representation to mihawk's analogy which is pretty cool
AUGUST IS GOING TO BE THE BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR OF ALL TIME
LIVE ACTION + GEAR 5TH 🔥🤩
What...! A GLR video at this time!? Ill take it!!
Iñaki Godoy is so endearing as Luffy. I'm definitely cautiously optimistic because I know Netflix's history, but this looks really fun
The Zoro scene in the hole might be in Arlong Park after Nami gives Zoro Wado Ichimonji and tells him to get away
BELLAMY BEING REVEALED IS SO COOL! He’s my favourite none strawhat!
Same! I was so excited to see that! You can also see Cavendish!

Maybe during the fight, Arlong transforms in a way, as he becomes more aggressive. Maybe they were showing Arlong to be a bit weaker before he becomes a real threat. Like in real life, Sharks can be hard to see in the water, so its difficult to guess their size.
that, would be pretty interesting yeah
Look, I won't watch it in german (I think), yet it shines so hard because almost all the original VA's are back in action.
Hearing Arlong after so many years was just wild. This helps immensely for getting the hype of the german crowd.
But even aside from that, I think I'll enjoy this show. Regardless of german Luffy's voice that lives rent-free in my head or Iñaki Godoy's, this will be awesome.
Regarding Buggy: The original german VA returning has a very raspy, loud voice, that can switch into comedic relief without losing 1% of power. So him screaming there feels right for the dub.
Buggy is one of the peeps I enjoyed the most when I still watched the dub, just because of his grandiose voice.
I’m genuinely very impressed. As a OP nerd I can see issues with staying true to the manga but leaving that aside and taking it as it’s own thing it seems very fun. I think all OP fans and non OP fans can sit back and have a good time with this show
The scene where Buggy revealed his devil fruit ability was pretty damn intimidating. That sold me on the trailer.
Damn they turn Buggy from joke into Batman's Joker

🤣
I enjoyed the teaser trailer, but still had some reservations. But now watching the official trailer I’m really hyped and think they did a great job. Yes, I agree it won’t be perfect but I’m sure now, I will definitely enjoy it a lot 🙌
Im looking foward to it regardless of good or bad. Happy we get content for one piece
Definitely 100% even more hyped up now. This trailer showed greatness only.
I find it interesting, what they did with Arlong Park itself. It looks like it was some sort of theme park before the fishmen pirates invaded
I think it's because Arlong Park itself was based on Sabaody. Arlong used to look at the Sabaody park longingly as a child.
The practical and digitsl effects are just sureal and fantastical enough its perfect!
Loved the trailer. Completely excited for August 31st
If it lasts that long, with the lighting work, I bet thriller bark will actually be pretty amazing in live action.
Luffy is a rubber man, he's suppose to be permanently rubber, but that would require a cgi Luffy, so he just turns his limbs into rubber when he attacks, which gives his stretching parts a distinctive rubber-y look different from the rest of his body, which is the most correct, efficient way to solve the problem
Great analysis. I think the show is looking fantastic, certainly better than I think most of us were expecting. Everyone seems to have a few small issues here or there but the reception feels mostly positive, which is great.
It looks pretty good overall, but I will say the prop/makeup/cgi qualtiy has a lot of variance to it. Lot of great examples and poor examples all mixed together. There are some story changes, as you mentioned, but I think it will be okay. Should make it more streamlined and still make sense. I'm guessing Arlong comes in after the Baratie stuff is wrapping up to take Nami back instead of her stealing the Going Merry. That would likely eliminate a lot of the back and forth traveling the crew does in that arc.
Actually looking forward to the show now.
I find it funny how the biggest one piece fans are the ones hyped about this while people who haven't or have barely watched the series criticize it super harshly.
