- Toyota Camshaft Replacement
In this video I have a 4.7 Toyota 4 Runner with a rough running engine and a diesel type noise at idle coming from the passenger cylinder head. This video had just had timing belt and camshaft seals replaced which includes removing the Camshafts. I will walk you through the procedure to not only replace the timing belt but also to remove the camshafts and replace the camshaft seal. This requires a very important step in removing the camshafts. Come with me and I will help you with this job and you will feel very comfortable taking it a part.

Man this video made the install very simple, these little 4.7s are pretty fun to work on
I am very happy to hear that, the repair I did is actually quite confusing when you first try to do it and understand the verbage used by Toyota. Thank you for watching.
Thank you so much for making this informative video
Glad it was helpful!
Removing the oil and other fluids out of bolt holes always reminds lessons in science in high school.Learned fluids take the shape and do not compress.
Yup very true. They will crack the head for sure
Thank you bud. I have the service book you have on screen but there is so much more confidence when seeing it in person!
You are very welcome, yes the service information is very hard to understand in my opinion. I am happy to help. Thank you for watching.
@@NutsandBoltswithTone would you suggest using any FIPG on the cam seal? or what about when installing the crank seal? i have an vvti motor. should i use any assembly lube when doing either?
I just watched your video and I want to tell you that I'm an instant fan no fluff no bulshit just what I needed to know in a very very well laid out way. I appreciate you
Why thank you I am happy you found my video and it was able to help you out. Thank you for watching.
Doing the cam seal replacement with the tb/wp this weekend. 06 Lexus GX470 4.7 vvti. First timer. Wish me luck.
Good luck with the repair. I am sure things will go smooth. Thank you for watching.
Great detail! I really appreciate that you provided the torque specs. Thanks brother!
You are very welcome and thanks for watching
Very good video. I'm in the middle of doing mine and just the front seal cap silicon locations helped. Thanks!
Sweet I am happy to help. Thanks for watching.
This was a good video and in English too 😊
Thank you I appreciate it. Happy to help and thanks for watching
love this video, very very detail info with lot of warning notes, good job !
Thank you very much. I appreciate you watching
Great vid! I would have left the bolt in but I would also leave a note with the key. This way the worst thing would be removing the valve cover. Another great vid from Tone!
Thank you Bill. I appreciate you watching.
I had my timing belt done and cam seals also but I feel the bolt in the camseal on the cam cover
I am not sure what you are saying
thank you so much
You are very welcome. Thank you for watching
Walth of knowledge. Thank you tremendously! I’m about to tackle this job in the next week. First time I’m hearing to not seal pack the grooves-I was going to as no one in the research I have done has said that. Also, what program was that that you were using with all the info, e.g. torque specs, orientation of cam caps, where to apply seal pack, etc.?
Seriously, thank you for making this video!
Thank you very much I appreciate that. The info is from All data. It's a program you have to subscribe to. Sealing cam caps is tricky sometimes if you do not know where to seal. If you have any questions hit me up on Instagram. Thank you for watching.
Thank you very much for your video. It was a tremendous help.
I’m having the exact same trouble…I picked my truck up from a timing belt service with Cam seals. And now it sounds like a diesel. Can you reset the gear with the service bolt if it wasn’t done correctly? Or do I need new parts on standby?
In this video That is what I was doing I believe. Another tech can seals and had to fix it. You just have to really think about that gear and how far it moves. We didn't replace anything except new seals. I fixed it first try. Hit me up on Instagram if u have any questions. Good luck thanks for watching
Thank you for the video can you make a video on valve seal with the heads on block?
You are very welcome. I actually would not replace valve seals without removing heads, and we always send them to the machine shop to be checked. We have such a long warranty that we do not take chances on that. Thank you for watching.
Nice sir Thankyou
You are welcome thanks for watching
Very good tutorial!👍
Thank you very much and I appreciate you watching.
Having an issue with the left bank. Manual says to line up the 2dots (4dots total) on cam gear. After doing that the cam/timing sprocket is 180 off. What am I doing wrong?
Sorry your having trouble, if you message me on my Instagram the vehicle info I can help u. Thanks for watching
I’m having the Same issue on my 2005 4Runner. We’re you able to find the solution?
what was the end result i have the same problem
I was hoping to see a full vid of timing and cam seal
Sorry man I tried to cover all the important info. If I get another one I'll try to do more. Thanks for watching
What to do if you removed a camshaft before putting the service bolt in?
You have to rotate cam back into correct position. Thanks for watching
What to look for in that valve cover little filter? Is it typically just cleaning from being to dirty? Do you know the part number if it needs to be completely replaced?
Not usually dirty u just want to check it. I don't know part number.
So Ihave question a question on the dots if driver side cam is set to dot one and passenger side is set to the two dots will that be fine or screw up the timing

How long does a job like this usually takes? On that 4.7 engine specifically.? Anyone have an idea?
I am not sure how long this takes to be honest.
Why is everyone disassembling the intake cam to change the seal? I took that gear off with the 4 Allen head from the rear and changed the seal that way
Oh ok
@@NutsandBoltswithTone it seems like the gear won’t go passed the 3 fingers in the middle of the cam but if you wiggle it the right way it comes right off - saves a lot of time if you do it again
Great video and some good tips! Just a quick question did you set the cams to the T's or did you just set to TDC? I know on the 4.7s they have a tendancy to jump time if you arent careful. Thanks!
To be honest I am not sure if it was TDC or not, I just followed the service information and do it exactly how it says. Thank you for watching I appreciate it.
Was the noise only when accelerating?
I cannot recall in sorry. Thanks for watching

@@reggiegoggins thank you. I am here to help. Message me on Instagram if you need any help. Thanks again
Is this process same on the lexus ls430 2004?
I am not sure but if you message me on Instagram I can try to help you. Thank you for watching
