Something that tripped me up... For the onion skin "light bulb" icon to appear (and therefore, be available), 1) there has to be at least one drawing on a frame, and 2) you have to click on another frame on the timeline. You can see this happen starting at 2:40. Start playing the video there and keep an eye on the layer rows.
@@choknater how do you delete extra frame if you realize that, the duration is too long from for the ball to reach the ground? Also how to do you add frames in between for the vice versa case. Is there a quick way, or those drag frames is the only way?
@@PramodShetty hi, so there aren't any default buttons to do that, but there ARE shortcuts in the settings that you can set. if you go to settings -> configure krita -> keyboard shortcuts, and then search for "insert" you'll find that you can set shortcuts for Insert Keyframe Left/Right, Insert Hold Frame, and Insert Multiple Keyframes or Hold Frames. those shortcuts should help you do that you're thinking, i'm pretty sure. hold frames are simply blank frames
THANK YOU, holy crap. It's kind of crazy how many "tutorials" I had to watch before I found one that actually explains everything! It's like the other tutorial creators just automatically expect you to already understand what the onion skins are, and the differences between frames, keyframes, and layers, etc. I was super confused trying to learn Krita's animation studio on my own for a couple days until TH-cam finally recommended me your tutorial. Oh, and the other artists are usually showing off with some overly complex animation that made me feel more confused and overwhelmed, but you used the bouncing ball which was just a fantastic beginner example. I'm on my husband's account right now, but in a few months my first video will be up on my channel (The Wooden Bean) and if you ever happen to see it, my OP and ED animations will be partly thanks to your easy-to-understand tutorial. :) Thanks again.
By far the most helpful tutorial I've found! As someone who has never animated before, I had no idea what a key frame was or that I had to specifically add a new frame to draw on it. Thank you so much for your help!
BAHH THANK YOUUU I've been trying to use the "animation template" to animate, and I had no idea how it worked- This saved me a whole lotta time, THANK YOUU
This is a perfect tutorial you should go into teaching art, there are tutorials for Krita animation with a million views that are unhelpful and then the animator just says he doesn’t like talking about how to do art and blah blah blah, you are so in depth thank you from the bottom of my heart
I went looking for how to the animation process works in Krita and got nothing but people having low volume levels, talking too much and not explaining enough/not giving reasons as to WHY things should be done the way the should be. Keep doing videos like this because it saves a LOT of time not only for people watching, but for yourself.

This is so good to watch on one screen and follow along with Krita open on a second screen. A second screen can be really cheap to pick up. I'm encouraged to work through all your videos even though I have no, absolutely no, artistic ability. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video! Some beginner tutorial goes by so fast and I don't get to explore as much because their workspace looks different. This video was going at my pace and it actually felt like a tutorial rather than just a tour.

This was a really helpful video, and I also wanted to say your art looks fantastic! I have a little animation experience from working in Flash years ago, but nothing too elaborate. I just recently discovered Krita after being a Photoshop user for many years, and your video has been the best I've seen yet on animation in Krita. Thank you!
Wow! I decided to try something new for myself and the idea of drawing/animating came to my mind. Having no coin to spare for SAI or Adobe Photoshop, I decided to give Krita a shot.
