Please do treat yourself to Ann of Green Gables, a favorite of three generations of my family, enjoyed by a young teen and given to my mother on a kindle to have with her in the nursing home she moved into when she was 88. I am the middle link in the chain.
There's a wonderful unofficial "sequel" to "The Wind In The Willows" entitled "The Willows In Winter" by William Horwood, published in 1993 which details the further adventures of our favourite characters from the classic original. Obviously not a springtime read it may be one to savour by the fireside in the bleak and dark December!
Thanks for such a great vlog - such spring riches! 📙📖📙.I loved WiTW when I was v young and loved your reading - I would love to have a hardback with illustrations by the wonderful Arthur Rackham 😍. Dear Mole - my fave (Toad drove me mad - even at the age of 7) 😆
Such beautiful spring recommendations. I've read and enjoyed many of these. I still need to read Middlemarch (I got a wonderful edition at an estate sale last year) and The Shell Seekers, which I thrifted after your recommendation in an earlier video. 🤗
I too was prompted to reread both the ShellSeekers and the Winter Solstice based on the earlier recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed both. I now automatically add all the recommendations to my TBR list!
Love these recommendations. I've read a few of them, Dmma is such a fun read. I used to love Thd wind in the willows. It was on TV here in Iceland when I was a child and it was so nice to watch.
Great list of books. Have read some of these and definitely will re-visit Room with a View, Emma and Middlemarch - that one I haven't read since secondary school. Another author I like to read in spring is Beatrix Potter. Il over her illustrations and her stories.
Thank you for the lovely video and book suggestions! I have read four of the books you've talked about and I do agree with you that they are good spring reads! Love Rosamunde Pilcher and Kate Morton!😊 and I love it when your little Yorkie says hello to us as well!😍
Hello! I read wind in the willows for the very first time in January! Feb I re read athe a secret garden and March will be the children! I re reading a childhood book per month for this year. I did read the shell seekers in my late 20’s and loved it. If I find it again in a secondhand shop I’ll pick it up! I do love Kate Morton as well! Homecoming is very good! And I tghougnt the clockmakers daughter was excellent! I remember devouring the forgotten garden as well.
What a lovely list! I have read and enjoyed many of these. The Monica Dickens book is going on my TBR, and I think I'm going to give The Shell Seekers a re-read. I join you in hoping that spring comes soon.
I love Anne of Green Gables and The Secret Garden 🩷. I think I liked A Little Princess even more than The Secret Garden which says a lot (at least to me 😊). Emma is my second favorite Austen, just behind Sense and Sensibility. Very much looking forward to Spring 🌷. Thanks for sharing!
The Runaways by Elizabeth Goudge. A “children’s book” , is one of my favourites. In the 1960s my college professor , Mr Mattem told me that there was no such thing as a children’s book, that such divisions were wrong. I’ve always kept to this idea and feel that many “adults “ have missed out on literary treasures that they felt must be too juvenile to bother with. Shame. Might I add that I love your choice of books. Kind regards.
I tend to agree with your college professor! This makes me think of Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, which he did not intend as children's books, but it was the publishers who insisted on categorizing them as children's books - and makes me wonder how many people have missed out on them because of this!
Great selection. Read a lot of Monica Dickens years ago, think I will reread one and see how I feel about her now. I have just bought your ' Out Of Time' it arrived today, when I've finished what I'm reading now yours will be the next on my list.
"Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" a favourite chapter from "The Wind In The Willows"? Pink Floyd obviously thought the same as they used it as the title of their first album in 1967!
I, too, have misplaced my copy of The Wind in the Willows...I moved about a year ago and I'm still living out of boxes and I hate it. But anyway, that is one of my favorites; I have always imagined the little animals tucked into their houses underground and in the hedges, wrapping up to keep warm until spring comes and it's time to clean! Kate Morton just keeps getting better and better. I have read all of hers now. I wish my hair looked like yours...well, the cut does, but certainly not the color. Mine is a mishmash of blonde, grey and brown.

I’ve started reading The Wind in the Willows to my 5&3 year old at bedtime. Such a lovely book! Loved the book list!
¡Gracias!
Thank you so much!

Thanks for that - I think I've heard of it. I'll look out for it.
Oh I’ve never heard of Mariana or even Monica Dickens! What a beautiful edition, too. Definitely adding to my TBR, thanks Ros.
The Wind in the Willows is one of my favorite books of all time ❤ I have probably read it at least a dozen times ❤
I have never read it but I have a copy

Me too! I found Toad rather silly and annoying - I preferred the chapters with Ratty and Mole and their friendship.

Would you review "A Town Like Alive"? It is one of my very favorites and I have shared it with many people.
I haven't actually read A Town Like Alice, but if I do get round to reading it I will certainly review it!
