I am speechless 😊 You gave me exactly what I am searching. I am 56, but I wanted to learn this punching needle embroidery since my childhood..and after many videos you are the one who gave me exactly what I want...Thank you so very much Dear God bless you abundantly 💐💐
1. Stretch the monks cloth all the way and make sure the hoop is tight 2. Slack in the yarn or you will pull out stitches or miss knots 3. Don't pull off the needle too far, the needle should graze the fabric 4. Push the needle in all the way 5. Punch in the right direction, turn the needle to the direction you are punching 6. Use the correct fabric, you have to use fabric with a big enough weave where the needle will fit. Monks cloth or Panama cotton to start. Also the right count of thread for the thickness of yarn. 7. Right yarn weight for the needle itself. Yarn should slide through the tool, it won't if it's too thick. Yarn that's too thin will fall out easily.
yeah but watching the video gives you the very special, experienced insight, from the real live person who took the time to make you a how-to. Watch the video. She is pleasant and more than helpful.
Point 5. Turn the open end of the needle to the back and the pointed end in the direction you wish the thréad to travel so that the yarn is like a tail ...as my granny said the bunnies tail goes behind and the bunny only makes little hops not like a kangaroo! 😂
I thought I was completely useless at this needle punching. I'm actually a very skilled sewer, knitter and crochetter, but this has given me endless headaches. Now I finally know what I've been doing wrong. Can't wait to give it another try 👍👏
Really pleased I found this channel. I am a complete beginner and was struggling to make the correct loops. Following your instructions has made my life so much better, not least my stitching. Thank you so much x
This was so helpful! I tried punch needling on my own without watching any tutorials thinking it was easy enough and very quickly found myself very frustrated. Such simple tips but so helpful thank you!
I am brand new to punch needle and I bought a beginners starter kit. Unfortunately I thought when I received it, it also would of given me more direction especially with using the needle. I was getting frustrated I thought I did everything wrong and was not good enough to learn punch needle nevertheless something new. 🥺 When I watched your tutorial it was exactly what I was looking for! I can’t thank you enough! 🙏🏼🙂
This whole time I’ve been using a small needle with thick yarn not knowing why it wasn’t working for me and I gave up. I can now finally punch needle after watching video. Thank you! 💕😃
I love your tutorial so help full as described the suitable cloth be used I too like to learn I am 76 years old but it’s my passion to learn still I missed punch needle which I was very keen from the young age I seen ladies working on thus but doesn’t knew where I can find punch needle great now thanks to you and others who explained and the punch needle tool to buy thank you bless you I try before my life ends I do sewing embroidery knitting crochet drawing but only this craft I love to try to make a piece from UK 🇬🇧 ❤
Good afternoon! My name is Mila . I don’t speak English well, but I like hand make and I like your art . Your work is very good,! It’s very interesting!
I just bought a kit to try out punch needle and I was so frustrated I couldn’t make it work. I also feel I need a better needle than the one I bought. Anyway, thanks for this video and happy new year.
This video was much needed. Ibrought a beginner kit from joanns with hardly any instruction. Then there was a video with hardly any explanation. The material provided never got very tight and the hoop provided was not user friendly. I also think the needle is too big. I have done crossstitch so i knew it didnt feel right.
I can't wait for the specific video! I am pretty new to punch needle and cannot find a needle big enough for a rug that I'm making with super bulky yarn... I had my sis pick out the yarn she wanted, and didn't put any rules to it, because I thought that my large punch needle would work. Found out that the yarn is both too thick and too textured! Its a fleecy chenille-like yarn, but was the only one available in the colors that she wanted (it needs to match her bathroom). I ordered more needles, thinking that they would be bigger than my large one, nope. They are actually smaller... Punch needles don't have those handy charts on the yarns that says the size of the needle in milimeters that can be used with the yarn, it just has crochet hooks and knitting needle recommendations. At this point, I would buy my own chart from a trusted fiber artist who does punch needle. So, just an idea.
You are welcome! It sounds like a fun project, but maybe there doesn't excist a needle that fits the super bulky yarn. The chart sounds like a good idea, who knows. It's a complicated subject, but I'll do my best for the video I'll be making. Happy Holidays!
Exactly what I needed! Bought all the supplies and was so excited to start punch needle but every time I tried it didnt work. Tried different fabrics, different yarns, even different needles and it always seemed to get messed up. Was honestly about to give up and say maybe its just not for me. Watched this video and it turns out I had my fabric too loose this whole time! Fixed it up and gave it another try and its working great! I'm finally on my way to my first finished piece of punch needle! Thanks so much for your help!
I just stared to punch needling! It was very fun, though I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I hope This video wil help me out throughout my journey 😊 thank you for making this!
Thank you so much for this video! I wanted to give punch needling a try because it looked like so much fun, but I just couldn't get my stitches to stay in. I was getting ready to give up. This video helped me fix the problem. Thanks again!
Thank you, excellent video. just starting out and found this very helpful:) i used a screwdriver to close my hoop and it was life changing! Using fingers to tighten kept loosening up. Thanks again!!
Thanks for all the information. I am just starting with Punch Needle. I have done very little so far. I ordered Lavor needles from your Etsy shop and they are quickly making there way to me in Canada. I am so excited to put your lessons into practice!
I bought a starter kit today and thought I would watch some people on youtube to get more of an idea on how to do it. This has been a really helpful video, thank you so much....just waiting for my children to go to bed so I can have a go :)
Thank u so much for the tips. I just gonna start to learn how to make this. So I'm totally new and keep searching for what i can do and what i need. Ur video totally helping me a lot. Feeling lucky, because I'm looking for a video and i just found u right away for the first time searching 😁
Thank you mam and may God bless your talent. Very well explained. I'm from Sri Lanka and don't know whether the the proper cloth is available here. Is there a way that I could order online. Please let me know. Thank you.
With the inner ring, bind it with some fine fabric this stops the ground fabric slipping between the two pieces of wood. It gives the ground fabric some thing to grip to. Then tighten up as described in the videos
Thank you for this. I started punching directly with a Danella tool, how presumptuous.. hehehe... This video is extremely helpful anyways, most tips apply to the manual tufting needles - it's just that we absolutely need frames instead of hoops and we really can't change the yarn weight. Have a great day
Awesome video 👍 As a beginner it is very useful. But after stitching the yarn for a pattern and if we try to pull out that the yarn will come out 🤔 How to maintain or manage after stitching the pattern for a long time. How can it be done. Could you please share with us. It will be helpful 😊
Hi Vera, thanks for the tips. I would love a tutorial on filling in spaces. I notice some of my stitches are shorter or longer (on the flat side) depending on what I’m filling in. Also they may be too squished? Some instruction or tips on this would be great! Thanks again for your videos.
Hello, I've just started punch needle embroidery a short while ago and I've more or less overcome basic hurdles, but when it comes to filling I'm still struggling. Sometimes when it is densely packed, or I need to get very close to another section/colour, my punch needle will poke into an already existing back loop and push it out, therefore I end up ruining that stich. I have to undo many many stitches to go back to that one and start again. Very frustrating. I would love some tuto on that topic, thank you so much,
Great video! I found it really helpful in identifying and fixing common punch needle mistakes. Thanks for sharing your expertise! I'll definitely be checking out more of your content. Keep up the great work!
I would like to start punch needling at the end of the month as I have been looking for a great hobby similar to stitching, and since my mother does stitching she uses calico fabric so I just wanted to find out if calico fabric is also a good one to use or should I just stick to monks cloth or panama cotton?
Hi, thanks for your video with the great tips. I like to do big projects and was wondering what type of frame you use in your video. Thanks in advance for your reply!
You’re welcome! I’ve actually made this frame myself. It’s a gripper strip frame. In this video you can see how I made it: HOW TO make a GRIPPER STRIP FRAME for punch needle th-cam.com/video/uezABci7DCk/w-d-xo.html
Excellent video. Just what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing this information. Could also tell me please if it’s possible to do punch embroidery on crocheted items. Would love to make some polka dots and such on my toys etc. thanks in advance. Love from India

So informative. I am new to this. The reason I thought to start needle punch, I make dolls. I thought this would be great for making doll faces. Would you recommend that? If so, what would be the ideal fabric to use. I usually use a kona cotton to make my dolls. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank for you time.

Thank you for such a detailed yet well summarised introduction to Punch needle. You've covered all the topics needed for a beginner. Fantastic ❤
My son wants to start punch needling and this was the perfect introductory for us to watch so he feels comfortable starting. Thank you!😊
Thank you! I felt useless not being able to help my daughter to use a kit she received for her birthday!! This really helped!!
This was so helpful! I tried punch needling on my own without watching any tutorials thinking it was easy enough and very quickly found myself very frustrated. Such simple tips but so helpful thank you!

Great tips for beginners. I would also add that a Morgan no-slip hoop, or a gripper frame would keep your fabric even more drum tight.
