    The lead singer is Kristen Massey. She is the older sister to Claire and Cathy Massey whom were in the Band Tami Show in the late 80's and early 90's. They had a hit with the song "The Truth" in 1991. Both are still active in music. Cathy is part of the Duo The InCantations and Claire is part of a David Bowie tribute Band in Chicago. Not sure what Kristen is up to. Talented Sisters! =)

      Good Info: It's a song I always think of especially since the sound was & still is highly sophiticated & "not "dated" pre- Black / Euro / Atmospheric Metal
      before the term was coined, and bands like NIGHTWISH, Evanescence, & bands of the like burst onto the scene

    Grew up in NE Oregon and been back for a long time, but late '70's-early '80's, I lived in and around Seattle. The rock stations there played this and another off the same CD, though I don't recall which, but I loved the song. After that, nothing until about 2011 or so and I found this. I listened to it over and over, finally my ex presented me with the CD she got on Amazon. Still have it, love it.

    Darnell,
    A couple of things: The band was the brainchild of the lead guitarist, who also wrote a best selling nutrition book called "Eat To Win". Also in the band is bass player Jon Brandt, who had spent much of the early/mid 80's in a little band called Cheap Trick. And finally, this was the very first cd recorded DDD, which means Direct To Digital, which in turn means no tape. Recorded, mixed, mastered all on digital files. And now you know.

    • @patdthomas
      @patdthomas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember that. The radio DJ always had to make a point of it before playing this track. Direct to Digital.

    • @usmuse
      @usmuse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      not quite true. DAT or digital audio tape was used back then as direct to disc or hard drive was not a full album recording medium until the time of the YES Talk album which was probably the first to be recorded straight to hard drive in 1994.
      "DDD" refers to:
      AAD - analog recording, analog mixing, digital transfer;
      ADD - analog recording, digital mixing, digital transfer, and;
      DDD - digital recording, digital mixing, digital transfer.

    • @Kohntarkosz
      @Kohntarkosz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're mixing up two different things. There were digitally records dating back to the early 70's, but this was the first one to be recorded using Synclavier's Direct-To-Disc system. Don't ask me what the difference, but apparently there is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_recording

    Way back, my sister-in-law worked for a rock radio station. After I suffered a horrific bicycle crash, she gave me a bunch of CD's the radio station received. This CD single was among them and I loved it. Never saw the video until now. All these many years, I never thought of this song - it was a bad head injury. Maybe the anniversary of the crash made me think of it, 10/1989. WOW, Kristin Massey is hot!

    Saw them as Siren when I was stationed at Patrick AFB, FL. I think the venue was in Hollywood, FL. I remember it being smaller and having a front row seat. Tried to get them to sign my CD liner as they were doing their farewell from the stage after the last number but no such luck. I'm now 58 years young and this song (and album) brings back great memories.

    Dream-Rock, Gothy Post-punk, LA Glam-Metal, Ethereal-Progressive, All in One Amazing 80s track, from an underrated 80s Hard Rock band! I remember hearing this in my youth, and being completely entranced by the Vocal-contrast of the lead singer's voice, incredible guitar work, the moody post-punk rhythm. It was a sound, way ahead of it's time! Love the deep mysterious Meditative vocals in the verses, and the Heavenly Choirsin the chorus! This has always been way too good for the Bar rock and Glam metal scene, that I know!

      Let them look (the kids); there were many viable bands in the "so called "Hair Metal era, & this was one of them: people have forgotten the value of LIVE playing & instrumental prowess; I love electronic
      music, particularly the style that was criticized during this era of metal, w/ instruments & keyboards, but Top 40 is too programmed & homogenized now.

    With such an absence of great female vocalists in rock. this band was sadly looked over.. Great LP

    • @csracingreport2024
      @csracingreport2024 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's plenty more female led acts now, but when this was released, VIXEN (all girl) & SARAYA, led by vocalist Sandy Saraya were up & coming, PAT
      BENATAR was on the tail end of her run, LITA FORD & HEART were still kicking, before VERUCA SALT came along & a host of alt rock ladies, the DEAL
      SISTERS in the Pixies & The Breeders as a solo sister band, Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Jewel,
      Melissa Etheridge, KD Lang, Indigo Girls, & so on before the new wave of hard, progressive metal maidens arrived: NIGHTWISH, Evanescence, IN THIS MOMENT, Flyleaf, PARAMORE, Halestorm, etc.
      SIREN's sound was, before the latter mentioned bands came along, Black / Euro / Atmospheric Metal before the phrase was coined; and to further your point, it was a mystery & a shame this band
      didn't have the success the aforementioned did w/ a vocalist like this: this song / album was always a benchmark for polished, sophisticated, & not "dated" rock.

      I'm from NE Oregon and have been back here for years, but I was in the Seattle area for 12 years-1978-1990. Like you said, KXRX used to play this, I don't know about KISW. I remember finding the album later and the cover was quite different. I was surprised when I moved back to Oregon, and no one had heard of them, though the forced name change might have been a problem. I remember Roy Otis too, and Bill Nye the Science Guy would have those little, short things in the afternoon, then gotta go! I don't know if they are still on here, but someone recorded the Leave it to Beaver 1980's from KISW. I laughed my ass off when I heard them again. There were a couple of times going across the 520 bridge in the morning from the U-District to Bellevue to work that I may have had a close call from laughing. I found this a long time ago and mentioned to my ex how much I like the band but could never find any CD's. She came up with one on Amazon. I still listen to it.

    I've had their CD since it came out way back when and, thanks to the iPod, I hear songs off it every so often, but I hadn't even known this video existed until I saw it just now. Kristen should have spent more time smiling.

      I remember the night it was released on a TBS or TNT Video show called " Night Tracks, and it being introduced as the 1st Digital single / LP:
      sophisticated, not "dated" ...it's Black / Euro / Atmospheric Metal before the phrase was coined.

    1st digital recording: This was "the jam" and an under-rated one @ that: SIREN was, along w/ SARAYA & VIXEN, part of the "female led" band era that "preceded " Evanescence,
    HALESTORM, Paramore, NIGHTWISH, Flyleaf & In This Moment, to name a few

    First time i heard this song was in the early nineties, on 94 WHJY Rock station, in Providence, Rhode Island. Then i went and bought the single on a ... tape. I still got the tape, and it's under the name "Siren". Not Red Siren.

      They were SIREN when the track, 1st digital single / album btw, was played on TV: "Stereo & Neighborhood on Fire" track

      Agreed; 1st digital single / album, great riff, nice voice, and in totality, it's "Black Metal" / Euro / Atmospheric Rock before the phrase was coined, &
      bands like NIGHTWISH, Evanescence, IN THIS
      MOMENT, & bands of the like, female led in many cases, burst on the scene: Very sophisticated, silky smooth & polished production: Extremely underrated song from the often criticized "Hair Metal" era.

    Only heard this a handful of times back in the day and somehow never even realized the singer was a girl. Def not disappointed lol. This band should have gone further than they did. The had the chops and definitely the looks lol

    I had this cassette tape. I wasn't a bit fan of that album. The rock aspect seemed very generic and their sound just didn't have that "punch" but this song had something about it. Maybe it's the mood of it. It reminds me of being in high school, living on the edge of town, going for long walks to the White Hen wearing my Walkman. Interesting memory.
