Brilliant music and you would transport your crowd back to the special memories of a grand era. It would be one night we could be lost in a time capsule of happiness. Forgetting about the scary shitty world we live in today with the rubbish music that goes with it. This song is my medicine. I love it so much. Please think about a tour. I agree with you and everyone responding to your comment!! Unfortunately, we won't have second chances. Fortunately, the memories and the music are left in tact . . .
"Kyrie Eleison" is Greek for "Lord, have mercy." It is used as a prayer in both Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox services. Greek was the original language of the New Testament, which was later translated to Latin. This song is credited to lead singer Richard Page, keyboardist Steve George and lyricist John Lang.
The roots of "Kyrie Eleison" you say are not entirely accurate, not to be confused with anything Catholic or even its coptic tributaries, because they didn't happen until after the 3rd century AD, where is it is true it was a common expression amongst the churches in Asia Minor [that of course would include Greece and Turkey] it has a sad history rooted in the martyrdom of those early Church saints.
@@BilnBax Yeah... not the most accuate source to quote, certainly not a source veracity testing... I have a theology background, I can tell you lots of things get argued, but never what's been lived - this is a great song BTW
One thing I've always appreciated about the music of my generation (80s) is that band members never acted like tough guys, thugs, or people that looked like they hated everyone. They smiled, laughed, had fun and were themselves.
I think of Kiss and so many others. They were paving the road for the thugs of today! Everything is a one up. No one made people act like they are now, but how many guitars did Ozzy smash?
Sex pistols, Metallica etc etc... unfortunately. But.... this was so lovely and innocent and not every song was about drugs in those days. And.... they actually sang! 😂👏👏, can't sing anymore

@OAT351 How's that comment working out for you now, with Trump, a friend to the jews, having managed to be the first president in decades not to start wars in the middle east, trying to end them even, and well if the first claim was true then obama was the guilty one. I guess its proof of god since you are completely and amazingly wrong, but maybe that's just the evil in you.
God is everything, but the concept is not bound to any single religion and is unto itself a mere acknowledgment of our own consciousness. Keep it simple.
The meaning of "kyrie Eleison" is indeed the Greek saying: "Lord give mercy". ♥️ The song is so powerful when thinking of Jesus Christ. ✝️ The lyrics are beautiful and devine. Lord give mercy to all people. 🌟
@@anameryrivera351 There are so many things to say app Jesus Ana Mery. Doxasi "Δοξασοι", is another Greek word. It means "Blessed be the name of God". ♥️
And the only difference is that we KNOW and can PROVE that Mr Mister, exist, whereas god and baby jebus, we absolutely CAN'T. Also Mr Mister make awesome tunes like this one Fantasy, immoral, imaginary, inhuman, hateful, mafia boss, sky daddy and Co, don't. They insight hatred in many and indoctrination in others. So I think we can leave the fact that some words in this incredibly powerful and stunning song, happen to also be in that ridiculous and horrific, hateful, disgusting book of utter drivel, as nothing more than they sounded good, which they did and that they then made the song sound incredible. Other than that, so what about "god"? PROVE he exists first and just maybe we can discuss this more. Until then... STFU. Thank you.
Kyrie Eleison- Lord have Mercy THIS song kept me sane for over 3 decades. Almost 4. When I have needed a song to push me through, help me over, whatever, I always seem to have it show up. I love you guys to this day. May the Lord always watch over and protect you.

I'm having a rough time in my life, I'm facing really bad relationships, few friends, and only a few things keeping me going. It's songs like this that I come to when I need inspiration to just be myself, enjoy the music of my past, and be strong. It's amazing how real this is to me now. Love to all of you folks. UPDATE 5/2/2023 : Wow. I can't believe this many people gave a crap about my comment. Side-note; I'm doing a lot better. After the moment above, I began to write stories for the first time since High School (20+ years ago). I'm currently writing a novel and it's the most special thing I've ever felt and experienced as a creative human being. For years I was just goofing around with some talents - now I have something to say. Thank you to everyone who cares! I won't let you down.

Sitting on my front porch in the late evening summer night, a nerdy 15 year old kid, listening to this song. Wondering if I'd still listen to this song when older. So here we are, 36 years later. 😊
There is a quality in these songs that modern artists really don't seem to find. The lyrics are great too. I was born in 81, but wish I'd been born a decade earlier sometimes. It would have been great to go to one of these concerts back in the day. The 80s had so many banging tunes. I was happy to live through the 90s, but I still often am called back to the 80s.
Few people realize that the Lord’s discipline and his rod of correction is also his mercy. Proverbs 3:11 11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, 12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.[b]
The band had been together in one form or another since 1978 and didn’t disband until 1990. Mr. Mister was an American rock band from Phoenix, Arizona, active from 1982 until 1990.
Kyrie Eleisin - Lord have Mercy - never had so much meaning until these disturbed times. A song before it's time that Mr Mister sang into our hearts, thank you.
A song for all time. With the "Kyrie Eleison" words going back to medieval times and Gregorian chants. This song sounds so mystical and mysterious to me now that I know what it is really from. Especially in the middle of the night.
Kyrie Eleison down that road that we all must travel. Life, in other words. And death. And really just...everything. Kyrie Eleison. Lovely words. Lovely ideas. Lovely song. Forever. ❤️💙❤️
This song reminds me of my father who battled cancer for 12 years. It got the best of him, and he passed away on June 21, 2016. To keep him and my family going all those years were songs like these.
The Lion and his lamb Each time a person does a kind deed to her, she has somehow met God. She had a good father; he may not be God, but he's a representation of Her/His goodness.
iam very sorry to hear that...hope hes in a better place and not in pain....damn that disease...damn it...i hate it...it always attacks the good people
I have loved this song since 1985, Kyrie and Broken Wings are two of my favorite songs not just from the 80's but even today. Mr. Mister was a band that made entertaining music with a positive message, I wish there were more bands like this.
As a boy growing up in the 80s, I was taught that ALL rock/pop music came from the devil. But knowing Kyrie Eleison meant “Lord have mercy” from my Catholic upbringing, and hearing this song all over the radio, I KNEW what I was taught wasn’t right. This song was the turning point for me to discover an AMAZING world in rock and popular music that simply celebrated the glory and joy of positive energy and goodness. This song lives in my soul forever because of its pivotal influence in my life and my career. I will NEVER tire of hearing “Kyrie Eleison down the road that I MUST travel!!!” 👊🎸💯🙏✝️
It's not from the devil. It's noisy music for a noisy world. Anyone who complains about rock music should remember that this generation did not have a choice whether or not to be born in an industrialised world.
All good things come from the Father. It is Satan who will pervert and distort what God created and intended for our benefit and enjoyment and ultimately, for His glory!
So happy to have come across this amazing song!!!! They never played it near enough on the radio but when it hit the air waves it made me melt, EVERY SINGLE TIME! Goosebumps!! The rhythm the beat the vocals the HARMONY so so good! One of my top favorite songs from my teen years (best music era EVER!) 🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah, it is part of the Traditional/Tridentine Latin Mass (TLM). This one of the part taken from the greek rite. You can see the documentary "Mass of the Ages: The Latin Mass" about it. God may bless you and your families. ^^
Kyrie eleison is Greek which means Lord have mercy. It's a very important so simple of a prayer that means basicly Lord whatever is lacking, needed in my life help me,fill me. We pray this repeatedly in the Greek Orthodox Church. Great song, love the 80's.
Beautiful Song, Melody and Lyric. I always knew what the meaning was and would often play it for those of my friends who weren't very spiritually inclined. They'd sing along with me and then I'd tell them what it really meant, which always put a funny look on their faces. I really enjoyed music like this that were considered cross over spiritual songs. Always felt like I was singing my prayers to the Lord for the day or even a nice way to say goodnight. It is still one of my Favorite 'go to' songs that can bring me to tears at times. Kyrie Eleison on Us through our travels through Life's hills and valleys! Be Well, Be Safe, and Blessings💛
You said it! The Holy Spirit did it - signs through Scripture, nature, culture (including music) and ... one day (maybe soon) ... Rapture. How neat is that? Holy-Spirit neat!
"Kyrie" is one of those 80's songs that has that special definitive sound that seems to bring back the nostalgia stronger than some other 80's songs. Even more so than Mr. Mister's more commonly played "Broken Wings". The nostalgia from "Kyrie" hits me right from the opening notes and throughout.
well, if you read their bio, you will note that they were all hella busy before and after. All accomplished session musicians (much like Toto), and their label wasn't really interested in them as a unit anymore.
This is one of the most upbeat spiritual songs that had MTV & radio play. Kyrie Eleison, the 1st words, of each line in the chorus is Greek for "Lord have mercy".
Nothing can top this era. Everything was new. No internet. Music carried us through everything. It brought us all together. There was depth and meaning behind the lyrics. Every nite and sound was healing 🩵

When this song was introduced. I fell in love not only with this fantastic melody & harmony, but for the style & lyrics that made you want to replay over & over! Great Christian band whose songs are so beautifully orchestrated with an added bonus of reaching your very soul - I didn't truly appreciate Mr Mister until "Kyrie" was released! I long for music like this and am saddened the current generation cannot see the beauty in the lyrics of a song that leaves permanent "footprints" on your heart! Kudos Mr Mister for sharing your talent with the world! God bless you & yours & thank you - especially for the gift of music & the song, Kyrie!
This is my favorite song by Mr. Mister! Not just because it's from the 80's, which is great but I look at this song as a blessed prayer and a jumping song that makes you wanna dance! That's what majority of the 80's songs are and that's what majority of the 80's represents❤. Oh how I miss those days😌
It’s Greek: “Kyrie Eleison” = “Lord Have Mercy” from Orthodox Christian Liturgy. Plug it into the rest of the lyrics & you’ll see the song makes total sense. (pronounced like “keerie ehlayson”). The entire song is a personal prayer.

Who would have ever thought a popular rock song would repeat the prayer "Lord have mercy" over and over again?
Fascinating isn't it? Probably wouldn't happen today.
❤ Amen!!!
I never realized what words he was singing until just now when I ran across a short someone posted as a "these were popular songs when I was a kid" with lyrics.
Blew my mind.
I thought he was just saying someone's name or something.
thats why it has to be in a foreign language
If you honour God then God will honour you.
I took this song to heart and carried God with me down the roads I traveled & I've been down some scary , freaky dark roads from bad car accidents to midnight shift as a corrections officer to 3 marriages, losing a wife and brother to covid 19, to surviving covid 19 at home and losing my dear daughter & now raising my grandson but one thing remains the same ,God was with me down the roads that I did travel and still is. Praise God Almighty my creator🙏🙏🙏✌
God bless you , this song is amazing 👏 xx

Yep, the earbuds are currently threatening to give me a higher VA rating for hearing loss. Song is on repeat and the volume keeps climbing with every replay. 😎

We didn't realize how great we had it in the 80's. Miss those times like everyone else. @@calogerofanara837 Hi! Indeed, friend. I'm sure you're familiar with the saying, "Those who sing, pray twice.". Thanks for your comment.
@@cdfdesantis699 I know that saying, indeed. And it's true. Well, no surprise that we as Christians are convinced that music can powerfully minister to the soul.
I lost my brother in 1986. It was sudden, no warning. This song was of inestimable comfort in that horrible time.

There is a certain spiritual quality to this song. It is in fact a prayer (Kyrie Elaison). We hope and pray your soul continues to find comfort.

Oh Mr Mister. I wish you guys would regroup and do just ONE world tour. You would pack the house out every show. Why not consider it? Such great icons of the 80s.

Me too! When music meant something. It is Greek for "Lord Have Mercy" from the New Testament
One thing I've always appreciated about the music of my generation (80s) is that band members never acted like tough guys, thugs, or people that looked like they hated everyone. They smiled, laughed, had fun and were themselves.
word up
You are spot on with your comment friend! Not much smiling going on nowadays sadly
Singers and bands looked so genuine and innocent back in the 80s,
I think of Kiss and so many others.

Also Mr Mister make awesome tunes like this one
Fantasy, immoral, imaginary, inhuman, hateful, mafia boss, sky daddy and Co, don't.

So I think we can leave the fact that some words in this incredibly powerful and stunning song, happen to also be in that ridiculous and horrific, hateful, disgusting book of utter drivel, as nothing more than they sounded good, which they did and that they then made the song sound incredible.

Heard this & broken wings as a child and they have stuck with me since. Growing up in the 80's was fun for me.

Kyrie eleison is Greek which means Lord have mercy. It's a very important so simple of a prayer that means basicly Lord whatever is lacking, needed in my life help me,fill me. We pray this repeatedly in the Greek Orthodox Church. Great song, love the 80's.
I’m Katholikos and we sing this song as well!
It is still one of my Favorite 'go to' songs that can bring me to tears at times. i cannot, cannot get enough of this awesome song. broken wings is a great song, but there's just something about kyrie that gets my attention.
It's the Holy Spirit my friend! Amen!Godspeed
Love the 80s 43 absolutely don't know what we would do without 80s music.
For years I thought he was singing "Give me a Laser".
It is also used in Catholic liturgy, was part of the Latin Mass, and often still recited in Greek in current Masses done in the vernacular language.
I now want to learn Greek.
I just discovered that I am praying every trip in my car. As this song is on whenever I start driving and I sing it loud....
C Ingold - never knew that! 🙏🙏
What a great group singing such a powerful song 🎶 I love it and I still hear it till this day 2024 and this song came out in 1985 I was 15 years old if I could go back I would without hesitation the world was a greater place to live and so much more
Kyrie is one of the masterpiece of 80's.
And Mr.Mister is one of the underrated band through the years.
Exactly! I love Mr. Mister!
