I ran via an International Tour Operator last year (and had the pleasure of meeting you at the Expo!) but this year I'll be entering the lottery. Last year's marathon was one of the greatest experiences of my life!
I got in through the lottery first time as an international runner. And who’d of thought, you’d be the one to hand me my bib number at the expo! Remember? Mark from the uk 🇬🇧
DirtyOldSneakers hi. Great info thanks , Would like to know if I live abroad international and I'm not a US citizen or resident , can I still participate in the lottery ?????
Very nice video. I know someone who has run lots of marathons, including NY, and he told me his favorite was Chicago. No boat ride, and the overall expenses were less, though the hotels in Chicago aren't exactly cheap either. After losing in the NY lottery for at least 5 times in a row I threw in the towel. I am glad people enjoy the race, but there are lots of other great ones out there. I want to do the wineglass sometime. Frankly, when you are older, and done enough of these, it is good to just know you finished.
This year the lottery was less than 3%. I got into this year's race by getting 1 of 500 virtual slots and finishing a race in Raleigh on the same day as NYC.
In the lottery now, signed up on Monday. Its going to be a long month for me and I won't lie, ill be devastated if I don't get it. This could be my only opportunity to run it it.
I’m using GoPro Hero 7 Black and when I upload my running videos on TH-cam the quality goes down and the videos are blurry. Do you know how I can avoid.this.
What resolution/frame rate are you u/l’ing? TH-cam can take a bit to render hi Rez or high FPS vids. Give it 30 mins or so and see if that changes the clarity.
Another great vlog, I will be entering the lottery again. I didn't get in with my two previous attempts, but like you say! why wouldn't you enter? its free and you have a 15% chance. It is less than a 5% chance of getting into London via the lottery with over 420,000 trying their luck!! NYRR did offer a virtual 26.2 run/race during the marathon weekend of 2018, where those who completed the run and uploaded to Strava would gain a non-complimentary entry to the 2019 NYC marathon but you couldn't use the 2018 NYCM as your virtual run. I think it was $100 non member & £80 members to register for the virtual run, which is far less expensive than the tour operators. I am pretty sure that they will be running this again in Nov 2019 for a place in 2020.
I totally forgot about the virtual race, I’ll check to see if they’re going to do it again this year. I know they just announced one for the NYC Half, so I’m betting that they like the tactic. Thanks for the reminder Mark!
@@Dirtyoldsneakers You're welcome. It does look like NYRR are taking a bigger step into virtual racing now after dipping their toes in the water last year. I ran the Virtual 6 series to gain a non comp place in the BK half and was tempted to run the Virtual NYC Half in March too. I think the idea is fantastic, a great incentive to get more people out running. I have to take my hat off to all those who ran the Virtual 26.2 in November unsupported, absolutely fantastic achievement and worthy of a place in the NYC marathon.
thanks for the tip. I knew there were some tricks that nobody mentions normally. Theres no way every runner is dropping 2500 dollars to run this race plus entry fee

Hey man, yes you can. However, the lottery for this year closed on Feb 14. The only way to get in now is charity. Or maybe one of the tour packages.
love every bit of your video great content 👏🏻
Great video!
this video is awesome to give first hand visual of the marathon for those like myself that are starting my marathon journey. thanks

I've run Chicago twice, great race. And have always wanted to do Wineglass, I hear good things about it. Burlington too!

Hey Erik , want to know when does the lottery begins and ends , to sign up for year 2020 ,,,,,, thanks
At what time of year does the window open for those who qualified for nyc marathon based on time?
Usually the end of January. I’ll make a vid when I find out.
Thank you!
Great videos and information!

I wish you luck Eric!
Hi , thanks for the info ! Would like to know if I can participate in the lottery even though I'm not a US citizen or resident and I live abroad ?
Can’t you run 4 races out of 6 now? Like the Brooklyn half, etc?
Not for the marathon. That’s for the half. Marathon is 9+1.
@@Dirtyoldsneakers ok thanks! That means I need to sign up for more races

Do you know if there’s a higher chance to get in through the NY residents lottery or the regular one?
No idea, sorry.
