Book wise, Gaius knew she was completely out of her league when dealing with Alia, then paul stepped in to overshadow that. To be fair though Alia is batshit insane and is rightfully titled a abomination.

    • @BigUriel

@@nikushim6665 She didn't go batshit crazy until years later. Gaius was just being prejudiced, she would have labelled Leto II and Ghanima abominations too.
Truth is she didn't like any of the Atreides, none of the Bene Gesserit did, because they messed up their plans. She tolerated Paul at first when she thought she could still manipulate him, the minute he decided to do his own thing all the Bene Gesserit were resolved to get rid of him and his children.

@@BigUriel Leto II and Ghanima were aboms only in the sense of being pre-born. Alia was a true abomination having been preborn through exposur to the water of life and unable to control her ego memories. There is a reason the Bene Gesserit has a prejudice agenist them. Even Ramallo realised what happened when jessica took the waters.

So many people talk about how slow or boring the first movie is but it's such a necessity to the world building of the Dune Universe. Besides the fact that Dune is a much more cerebral sci-fi. It is incredibly massive and Denis, being a fan himself, understood that the world building was absolutely necessary and to not rush the story to get to the action. I'm glad people get to see that pay off in this second part and bring Dune to a whole new generation of sci-fi and film fans who maybe didn't know much about it. Can't wait to see it this week.

It makes sense if one think of a planet as a death trap who you can Nuke from space. All want Dune and anyone who steps on the sand lose the planet. For the simple reason that once you conquered the planet you need to find new enemies to ensure your own conquest is not overun. Which means the in the end endless war is the ultimate power.
All invasions ended in failure since they stopped invading and they didn't united the people to defeat a common enemy. Instead they created themselves as the ultimate enemy.

It's obvious that he himself is a big fan of the story and just mentally immersed himself in that world to create a soundtrack that is so integral to the vibe and emotion running like an electrical current through this story. Once he yells it, I noticed the audience went back in their seats collectively as well. In almost this hypnotic trance like state. This film is a true masterpiece. Its flow is perfect.
