Until I saw Part One, I never believed Dune would ever be properly portrayed on film. I read the book when I was 20 and I'm now 65. My wait is almost over. Thank you, Denis Villeneuve. You made one of my dreams come true. I only have to survive until March............
I was emotionally and physically exhausted when the credits began to roll. I didn't even move to leave for like 5 minutes, I was blown away. That was a special moment for me in that Imax theater.
I first read Dune 40 years ago when I was in high school (and around the time the David Lynch film came out). I never imagined that a more full, cinematic version of the story could ever be made, that did the story justice and conveyed the real immensity of Frank Herbert's vision. Dreams are messages from the deep.
I read Dune b/c it was on a treasured place on my moms bookshelf (science fiction book club member). I was stunned how deep this book goes... and theres like 8 more that span over 1000 years! Truely changed me and im glad they are making another film of it. THE SLEEPER WILL AWAKEN!
That entire sequence in the book is honestly my favorite part, it does well to show off how insanely powerful Paul actually is, despite barely being 18.
I just made me do exactly that! I have watched this trailer two dozen times already. If we go to the cinema multiple times, we will get more Dune in the future, right?
I just watched it, in my opinion as an average nobody, it is possibly the best movie in years. Nothing has made me feel like that since the return of the king.
So many people talk about how slow or boring the first movie is but it's such a necessity to the world building of the Dune Universe. Besides the fact that Dune is a much more cerebral sci-fi. It is incredibly massive and Denis, being a fan himself, understood that the world building was absolutely necessary and to not rush the story to get to the action. I'm glad people get to see that pay off in this second part and bring Dune to a whole new generation of sci-fi and film fans who maybe didn't know much about it. Can't wait to see it this week.
It makes sense if one think of a planet as a death trap who you can Nuke from space. All want Dune and anyone who steps on the sand lose the planet. For the simple reason that once you conquered the planet you need to find new enemies to ensure your own conquest is not overun. Which means the in the end endless war is the ultimate power. All invasions ended in failure since they stopped invading and they didn't united the people to defeat a common enemy. Instead they created themselves as the ultimate enemy.
After Salusa Secundus (capital planet of modern empire) was bombed (few hundred years before) with nuclear weapons the houses and the government made them illegal and confiscated them and actually executed houses that used them. Paul find a very smart way around that and that is how these sandworms end up there:D
After all these months I still keep coming back to this trailer. The soundtrack is breath taking, its perfect. Finally Dune has been done right! Thank you Denis!!
Two years in the making despite the delays. Hopefully this movie delivers and become of the best sequels in a universe. The VFX is mesmerizing. Texture, lighting, and shadows. Can we just appreciate the time and effort and applaud the VFX artists? They deserve the praise for their work.
I disagree, it clearly has a unice visual style for each location, and quite different characters. The first one was more centered around 3 location, the dune and some of the ships, and the other location, now we will see more of the other places. @@ts7844
The "silence" scene in the trailer is not the same as the scene in theatres. There's another ( much darker ) voice in the real movie. The detail that went into making this movie was absolutely phenomenal. World-creation at its best.
Well I am not sure if this ist just down to the cinema sound systems. I mean any use of the voice in a cinema sounds so much more powerful than on youtube (even thos first use in Dune 1). You can literally feel the bass vibrating the seats in a good cinema.
I will say this. I'm 48 years old and I'm as excited for this movie as a little child. For me, Denis Villeneuve is a grandmaster. Combined with the music of Hans Zimmer, it is a masterpiece. For me, Greig Fraser is comparable to Roger Deakins, I love them for their mature and serious approach to photography.
I cannot express enough gratitude to Villenueve for making a near perfect rendition of this incredible story. I will see for the third time in theaters, tomorrow.
Denis Villeneuve deserves lots of respect for being brave enough to take such a project considering how many dune movies failed. Also the fact that they've built everything especially in the era of green screen movies shows how much love Denis and the team have for the process.
I’ve watched the movie a month ago and I’m still here, rewatching the trailer and reading the books while listening to the music of the movies. Villeneuve, thank you, you reminded us how to feel after watching something made from the heart
Something like this is hard to be considered a remake. Yes it's technically them remaking a story told already, but the 1980s movie was garbage, and this is another attempt at adapting the story, and it seems like it's working this time, considering now good the first movie was. @@ewjiml
The Atriedes banners on the sandworms were the most badass part of this trailer. That and Paul yelling "SILENCE" with The Voice at the Reverend Mother.

@@Nitrus17The book is so based on internal monologues and things other than dialogue though, meaning this particular cinematic adaptation has been incredibly difficult to achieve the right tone for. The chosen visuals and soundtrack seem to actually be achieving that.
Denis Villeneuve is on the verge of creating one of the most epic saga's of films we've ever seen. Truly this might be the new Lord of the Rings. EPIC!!!🙏
Her role was perfectly cast! She's probably the only one in the room who truly knows how powerful and dangerous he is and she's still willing to talk back to him. She speaks with such a commanding voice, she is awesome anytime she is on screen.
I'm a huge fan of musical scores and can honestly say that Hans Zimmer really outdid himself on the Dune series. It's obvious that he himself is a big fan of the story and just mentally immersed himself in that world to create a soundtrack that is so integral to the vibe and emotion running like an electrical current through this story. I hope he wins an Oscar again for the Part II score.
The story is also very well suited to Zimmer's style - whole societies thrown into deadly, unavoidable conflict by huge forces of fate, matched by big, slowly moving blocks of sound.
"A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt Dune, but it’s a long process to get the rights, and I don’t think I will succeed" -Denis Villeneuve, September 2016 during the "Arrival" promotion And now he's fulfilling his dream in getting a chance to adapt his beloved sci fi story, i'm so proud of him
I'm happy that we got a director for these films who legitimately seems to have an interest in the source material and the universe as a whole. Looking at interviews and cut content from Part 1, and the film itself of course, it is obvious that we're in good hands. That is rare in modern films. It is rare that we have an adaptation where the director is actually passionate about it, let alone competent.
The way Timothy yells “Silence!”( 2:08 )Gave me epic goosebumps.. Such a gifted actor and from interviews I’ve seen, super down to earth and not an ego in sight. Love him.
Reading Dune for the first time, I was simply fascinated by Frank Herbert's saga. After so many failures, I never thought I'd see this masterpiece so well represented on screen. Thank you so much, Denis Villeneuve, for the first time ever a movie made me tremble in the cinema, and just by watching this trailer, tears well up in my eyes because it's so epic. I know I'll have the same experience I had in part one.
How is it well represented? It's a book about how history is full of lies, about political, religious and even genetic manipulations of the masses by politicians, and how they ruin the world with constant war, slavery and hypocrisy, how religion is a complete sham designed to manipulate people, how prophets are a result of all those lies and machinations, and ultimately how sad the lives of those prophets are in the end, while Denis' film is "boy is superhero, special effects go boom".
Modern special effects movies don't respect the audience. Visually the star wars movies are very good though the choreagraphy of some of the sword fights varies on the movie. I think a better criticism would be the comic book movies, and anything that relies on motion blurr to give the feeling of action when in reality it's just low fidelity.
It certainly can, miniatures are being built by filmmakers for a nostalgic reason and the love for practical filmmaking. If they wanted to, you could not tell the miniature and the cg model apart

I'd give anything for Frank Herbert to come back to life so he could see this trailer. And to tell him that "fear is the mindkiller" is a significant part of how I made it through a horribly stressful time in my life. And I'd tell him that phrase is now engraved on the back of my tie clip, which I wear to work every day. And I'd conclude by saying thanks for giving the world this one-in-a-million book.
I catch myself doing the litany against fear from time to time. I wonder what Frank Herbert would think of this version, he actually worked with David Lynch on his version and it had his blessing. Part 1 was very good. I consider myself a Dune purist and any deviation from the book annoys me. But I suppose you to take in account that this is produced in a different time with many many parties contributing there will be differences.

Honestly, I think that shot of the Emperor's starship entering the atmosphere combined with this music is probably better than what will be in the movie. This is excellent trailer editing.
I never whitnessed a theater so silent like while this movie lasted. Everybody sit in silence and paying full attention is a thing you rarely see today.
Absolutely! I've seen it twice and both times nearly everyone stayed seated for awhile after it was over. It's truly mind blowing and makes 3 hours feel like 30 minutes. Crazy good movie.
The first movie was revolutionary in its score already, but there's something about the chord progression with the cymbal crash at 1:37 that makes me go "Yeah that's it. That's going to pave the golden path in sci-fi scoring for the foreseeable future."
What Denis Villeneuve has achieved with his version of Dune is absolutely incredible. I always hoped for a film version that could do the books justice after the previous mediocre attempts and can’t wait to see the 2nd installment.
The former versions/adaptations were not mediocre, but within the limitations of their time ...the focus of the 1984 version was more on acting whereas the one of the latest version is more on special effects....both versions are great though! Maybe a miniseries would be even a better choice... what do you think, guys and girs?
It is not, and it’s not on the OST either. The closest we get is a lower tempo version. But here’s a thought I had after watching both; the musical motif of this soundtrack fits right in with House Atraides’ theme as a continuation, signifying the continuation of the first movie at large. Hear the atraides theme with bagpipes and come back to this.
This version of the Atreides theme is absolutely insane. I hope this means it'll be fully included in the movie this time instead of just in the sketchbook.
It's very epic and uplifting... but misses the tone of the story imo. I appreciate why you like it! --but I very much hope it's *not* from the actual score.
I imagine we could get some musical stuff soon. I remember them releasing the sketchbook like a month or two before the first movie came out. I need it so bad.

I think the whole colosseum/Harko sequence is going to be one of the best 10-15 minutes of directing he’s ever done, and the last twenty minutes of this film, for those who havent read the book, it’s going to absolutely rule with this project in Denis’s hands - the wait for this film has been our gom jabbar

1:27 That visual of the sandworm breaking through the dust cloud is absolutely stunning. I am so ready for the absolute cinema we are about to receive
After Salusa Secundus (capital planet of modern empire) was bombed (few hundred years before) with nuclear weapons the houses and the government made them illegal and confiscated them and actually executed houses that used them. Paul find a very smart way around that and that is how these sandworms end up there:D

I'm a huge fan of musical scores and can honestly say that Hans Zimmer really outdid himself on the Dune series. I hope he wins an Oscar again for the Part II score.
Hans Zimmer is the goat. Right next to John Williams
hans zimmer is barely one person theyre basically a production company for music
The story is also very well suited to Zimmer's style - whole societies thrown into deadly, unavoidable conflict by huge forces of fate, matched by big, slowly moving blocks of sound.

What Denis Villeneuve has achieved with his version of Dune is absolutely incredible. I always hoped for a film version that could do the books justice after the previous mediocre attempts and can’t wait to see the 2nd installment.
❤
Villenueve's Dune will be joining the Peter Jackson LoTR trilogy on that pedestal of cinematic greatness.
The Syfy miniseries was amazing! It actually had people who could act and emote.
@@hecksnekinc.2750 Absolutely!
The former versions/adaptations were not mediocre, but within the limitations of their time ...the focus of the 1984 version was more on acting whereas the one of the latest version is more on special effects....both versions are great though! Maybe a miniseries would be even a better choice... what do you think, guys and girs?
1:37 The music from here is tier S++++. Hans Zimmer is a genius. I hope it's in the movie
unfortunately, it's not in the movie man
It’s there. Won’t spoil by mentioning where it’s used, but you can just look up “Kiss the ring” by Hans Zimmer and you’ll find it.
A variation of it is. There’s a theme in this trailer that’s presented throughout the film.
@@major8385isnt it in the ending scene with chani
It is not, and it’s not on the OST either. The closest we get is a lower tempo version. But here’s a thought I had after watching both; the musical motif of this soundtrack fits right in with House Atraides’ theme as a continuation, signifying the continuation of the first movie at large. Hear the atraides theme with bagpipes and come back to this.
In Loving Memory Of
Frank Herbert (1920-1986)
This version of the Atreides theme is absolutely insane. I hope this means it'll be fully included in the movie this time instead of just in the sketchbook.
It's very epic and uplifting... but misses the tone of the story imo. I appreciate why you like it! --but I very much hope it's *not* from the actual score.
I imagine we could get some musical stuff soon. I remember them releasing the sketchbook like a month or two before the first movie came out. I need it so bad.

RIP to all the Dune fans who waited all these years to see the sequel, but died in unexpected or unfortunate ways.
Not to mention Frank 😔
I pray I'm fortunate to live long enough to see God Emperor of Dune.
RIP to everyone who doesn't see today?
I don't know if this is all necessary
Unless you know someone personally, your statement acts like they didn't see anything good at all.
They did not live to see Dune Part Two the greatest film ever created in history of all cinema.
:(
I like how he hasn’t shown Alia or the Navigator at all in the trailers, and kept Lea Seydoux, Rabban, and Vladimir only briefly.
I haven't read the book, but this comment hyped me up just as much as the trailer.
I must not hype. Hype is the enjoyment-killer. Hype is the little cope that brings total disappointment. I will master my hype, let it pass over me and through me. And when the hype is gone, I shall turn my inner eye to its path. Only acceptance shall remain.
Don't you think he might have skipped Alia all together?
Do you mean Edric the guild navigator because he definitely won't be in it until Messiah.
@@Sheys73that'd mess up Messiahs story too much
You know what this reminds me of? Watching movies as a kid back in the 90s. Its like they have finally recaptured the essence of what it was to go see an awesome film in the theatre. Also I watched this with my woman in a 18+VIP theatre with full service, booze/meal, and double wide reclining heated chairs.. Highly recommended.
Having seen Dune: Part Two twice now, the score played throughout this trailer feels so much sadder. Heartbreaking, really.
We are seeing the rise of something terrible to behold in Imperium, but it also feels inevitable, somehow.
For sure, there is an epic poetic tragedy in this film which I applaud DV for because it truly conveys the original message (and warning) from the books.
"what's happening mother ?"
"Your brother attacks the Great Houses, the Holy War begins"
the love/devotion/hope of Chani, Stilgar, and the other Fremen, and reality of who Paul is and will become, man... the theme mainlines it all right to the feels
Lead them to paradise.
This is my most anticipated movie of the year! The first film was not only the best book to film adaptation that I've seen, but it was also the greatest movie experience of my life. I will never forget the fantastic visuals on the massive IMAX screen! I have not been this excited for a film in a long time! Part One was perfect in every way, here's hoping Part Two achieves the same! This trailer btw is amazing! I got absolute chills!
Nah, the best book to film adaptation was the SciFi Mini-Series.....bar none! Sure, the costumes, acting, budget, and visual fx were terrible, but it nailed it with the story.
Really? I literally fell asleep because nothing happened. Couldn’t imagine if I was in comfy imax seats lol
lord of the ring def on top, unless you mean 100% accuracy because obviously they had to do some things different in LOTR to be 100% accurate. For example hard to find 7 foot actors
@@risquedj- I loved the sci-fi miniseries. This is better in every possible way.
I'll wait for the 4k bluray for the best first experience.
Denis Villeneuve possibly the best sci fi director in cinema history. Arrival, Bladerunner now Dune. The hype is real.
If he pulls off Rendezvous With Rama he will undoubtedly be the best ever.
Never heard of Christopher Nolan?

One of the best sequels to a film I've ever seen. Up there with the empire strikes back.......but I was a kid when that came out......I'm 52 and thought dune part 1&2 was a masterpiece. Can't wait for part 3 now. If you haven't seen dune yet go see it quite simply.
Each large scene looks like artwork. What a gorgeous looking movie. Definitely need to see this in IMAX/Dolby. Can't wait!

That one shot where we see the Sandworms appearing through the dust and sand in the air.... I was utterly speechless. I don't think I've been this ready for a film since Deathly Hallows Part 2. And having read the book, and loving it, I'm all the more thrilled to finally seeing this.
