Great philosophy, maintain the environment and let the fish take care of themselves. works with almost all plants and animals. thanks for the video Adam. I can't keep fish right now so it is wonderful to watch yours. cheers
Greetings from Austin, Texas! Love your videos, I hope to have a pond myself one day. Have you ever considered of doing a Q&A video or an informative video/background history of what interested you in koi in the first place?
I really like your style and enjoy seeing the pleasure you are getting out of your fish. Fish are smarter than people know, when I used to SCUBA dive, fish would swim up to my mask and look into my face. They seemed smarter than squirrels. I love fish, they are our very, very distant cousins long, long ago. They are so graceful.
Actually in the United states sero siporax is very expensive, like 250 u s dollars a box, as I only 2 koi fishes. What would you recommend in a 250 gallon glass aquarium for filtration, they are very resilient and hardy and take extreme temperature variants. Let me know what you think about growing them in a glass aquarium....
As ever, your pond is looking beautiful! My partner and I are looking into buying our first house and my one stipulation is that i want enough garden to have a pond and a donkey! heist so keen on the donkey but i showed him one of your videos and he agreed! so i have to thank you for that! if you don't mind my asking, how much did it roughly cost to build this pond? i'm trying to research ahead of time so i know exactly what I'm getting into before i dig a hole and go and buy some fish! I've learnt so much from your videos so far and always love to see how your fish are getting on!
I thank you have the best fish pond and the best fish they look awesome. U are doing a great job taking care of your fish keep up the great work my friend. And always enjoy life always.
My 1" silver koi grew to a magnificent 18" in a 50 gallon tank in my livingroom. She would swim into my hand because she saw me all the time, and at different times during the day I would just put my hand into the tank like a ledge and her curiosity made her swim up onto it. In the Ozarks people fish that way.
If i though bacteria was an issue then i would give it a salt bath i would only ever use salt for bacteria i dont know why anyone would use it for parasites because there are much better ways of treating for parasites also if you have salt in your pond you are quite limited to what treatments will work with salt. Adam
Thanks Adam .. not many of us pond heads have a set up like this but the advice is always useful . Ive built an upscaled version of a moving bed bio filter for my pond .. where does your bio filtration come from ? Your nexus ?
Hi, I removed the Nexus a while ago i have made my own bio filter link - th-cam.com/video/aqNuEQ-nlpM/w-d-xo.html This is after a drum filter that does all the mechanical filtration. Adam
Hi Adam...im after a bit of advise. My PH always seems to be around 8.4 to 8.6. It never seems to go lower. Is there a sensible safe way to lower the ph? I live in leicestershire. My water always goes through a dechlorinator when adding any. Thanks Ross
I have cameras watching all my ponds and you will see them flick every now and then. There are a lot of things that can cause flicking water quality and parasites are the reason for a lot of flicking but occasional flicking can be anything from boredom or stress to eating too much. I know it is a parasite when they queue up to flick on the bottom drains once one has flicked it will re-join at the back of the queue. Adam
Adam Julyan hi Adam, thanks for the info. I have carried out a microscope scrape today and the only thing it looks like is large worms about 3 of them. Anchor worm maybe, but I can not see anything on the body of the koi? Any ideas
Hi, I would imagine the worm like things are Fluke (Do a google image search for koi fluke). Anchor worms are extremely unlikely as they can be seen easily so any breeder would remove them and for this reason they are not really found in koi ponds. Flukes would cause flicking as they are irritating to the fish but not really a threat to the fish just an irritant really. Although they should be treated as soon as you can confirm what the parasite is as in most cases flukes are a trigger for something much worse. Adam
always great and interesting stuff you post m8..ive been carp fishing many years..allways put them back after a photo and a waight session lol ..not koi's tho..but commons and mirrors :) i know your thinking breeding..is that why you dont have any normal carp ? and how do you keep your koi from breeding...is that temparature guided ?
I make sure the fish spawn every year I think it keeps them healthy and avoids a lot of health issues that come from heated ponds. However I have not yet kept any fry from them as I don’t have the facility to do so. It is reasonably easy to get koi to spawn when you want them to as temperature is the biggest factor. When the pond warms up you will see them chasing at that point you can catch the fish you want and put them in a shallow tank with spawning brushes and have that tank a little warmer than the main pond and they will spawn pretty much straight away. It is a bad idea to let them spawn in my main pond if you want to keep the fry as you don’t know who the parents are and I have goldfish which I believe can also bread with koi. I don’t have any commons and mirrors mainly because I have never come across any I do have goldfish and Rudd.Adam
So Just wondering.. after all that MONEY you spent on the equipment and pools and tank ECT ,,,why didn't you spend more MONEY on getting Much better Looking Fish???
Because having the best show wining fish has never been something that has interested me i like growing small koi into big fish and quite a lot of the fish a have that i wouldn't sell are really sociable and nice fish not the best looking.

Would you give your fish with the sore a salt water bath or does that only work for parasites, not bacterial infections?

Your pond is gorgeous! What are the dimensions? And is an inside pond better to maintain than an outside pond? Xx

Is that a big tench I saw briefly?
I used to have a big tench he died of old age last year he was atleast 15 the only river fish i have left is a Rudd.
Adam
awesome video. look forward to the next.
How often do you notice flashing and flicking? As some of ours do it occasionally.

Adam Julyan thanks both for your replies, I thought fluke straight away. I will do another scrape today just to confirm this.
Love of Orchids & Gardening I scraped a larger koi this morning and found 3 large moving fluke, so I know what to treat with now which is great.
hi Adam another great video
more feeding videos please even if there only short videos always nice to see them eat

thx for your answar m8...i think a full scaled mirror would fit in fine :) all the best
beautiful and majestic fish.....lovely, simply lovely. Treat this with Gentian Violet!!! Better than Iodine and far safer if you get near the gills.
I really like your pound and you're koi you're doing a great job with your koi! How old are your koi?
do they smoke
Why do they vary in shape so much, are some Israeli koi?
You need a Soragoi.
great video mate as allways
