US college protests against Israel's war in Gaza has spread to campuses across the Atlantic in Europe. Hundreds of students at colleges in France protested for Palestine and had a tense standoff with riot cops in Paris. Meanwhile, back in the US, Jewish and pro-Israel protesters have started organising counter-rallies against the pro-Palestine students. While these protests are increasing in scale every day, they still pale in comparison to the college protests of the 1960s and 1970s. American students played a key role in shaping government policy on civil liberties and the war in Vietnam. Palki Sharma traces the history of campus unrests in the US.
