You don't need to finish the battle to earn heart for your buddy. Just enter the battle and leave. You will still get 1 heart that way, but i don't know about if it work for emotion point though

A “new” Pokestop doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be a new Pokestop for you as a trainer, but it has to be a new place for the Pokemon as a buddy.
Maybe that's why the gym ''bug'' is in place at least. i really don't see how most normal players can visit a new location every single day so its nice that they have made an exception to gyms, at least i hope its intentional.
It seems to me like as long as it has a white ring around it and you get the heart. And you get a white ring around it I think every day when there's a new Quest available don't you?
You made it look easier than it was for me... Played it yesterday for over 4 hours and couldn't get the excited mood. I actually dropped the ball about basic stuff that you recommend, so I may try again tomorrow. Thanks for the video man!
I was able to get excited mood yesterday with no poffin. One thing I think is important, is that you HAVE to interact somehow with your buddy every 30 minutes, before it's mood drops. It also needs to be fed again as soon as you can (after an hour).
Lol at all these people who feel like they get to determine how you have your hair. Let the man do what he wants with himself. He doesnt need his “fans” telling him what to do with his appearance.
If you feed you buddy to get him on the map, then swap to another buddy and back, you can reset the heart cd but you have to feed it 3 regular tier berries again. I use it to cycle through legendaries at the end of the day when I know that I won't be walking anymore and still get 3 hearts for feeding them all. This lets me get 6 hearts a day with every Pokemon I have the berries to feed in the time it takes me to cycle through my buddy history, without moving. It's not something I'd do in the middle of the day since you lose mood and stored kms towards hearts but its a nice way to speed up progress on pokemon you otherwise would be getting 4 hearts a day with anyway for 1 feed, a play, a battle, and a snapshot. Alternatively, you could do this near a gym to get another heart, but I don't live near enough to one to want to bother when I work.
One of the perks for good buddy is adventuring buddy. I should not have to continually feed my buddy to have them on screen with me. Leave that for when you want them to carry out actions like, spin stops or help catch pokemon. When that option is unlocked then maybe it would cost less berries or no berries to preform those actions.
Yeah I'm already slightly disappointed with how high maintenance this whole thing can be. I don't mind having to work for those extra bonuses cause they sound nice, but I just wanted my buddy to be chilling out in the map with me for as long as they're my buddy.
You started at 10:12am, what time was it when you got Sandrew to excited status? Looked like about 12:22pm from your screen recording, is that accurate?
I like this video alot because alot of details and even demonstration is done for us to see is legit real. And for those have cool downs can take a look at the time after actions is done and set a timer for the next. That will make things easier.
For bigger lifehack u dont need complete any of these battles just get buddy in party and leave it if u want test for urself just swap buddy go to team leader do 1 atack and leave it will count as a heart so every 30min cdr like raid gym leader rocket count as exicted point
It's a feature that will only help a few people. People already get upset about accidentally adding a second move, just image the anger of accidentally wasting 100 candy and a couple hundred thousand dust on a random Pidgey. An easier option would just be adding a Power up and a Power up x5 button to appease the masses.
It'll be cool but what I really want is a way to delete eggs because 10km eggs completely blow right now I got 7 Mall Wiles in a row and then got Feebas like twice in a row!
Does the buddy distance thing work with adventure sync? I know he has to be on the map but can I use berries to get him out, close it, and then adventure sync the distance?
It works, but either your buddy needs to be “on the map” while you are getting the adventure sync distance or it still needs to be on the map when you reopen the game and the game registers the adventure sync distance.
So setting my mew as my buddy for half candy distance is a complete waste since half distance only lasts 3 hours. Thats some bad game design. It should just be half distance from the third level of buddies.
@@FlyingDwarfman yeah, puffins shouldnt be a thing then... Its a pretty simple fix but obviously they just want as much money as possible so they want you paying for puffins every 3 hours.
This works well for me. Are you out walking for more than 3 hours every day? I do the tasks during my work, and then when im out of there I have my half distance during my 2-3 hours of playing time.
It really bothers me that this system requires so much education just to understand. Shouldn't you be able to see that some actions have a 30 min cooldown and emotion points without having to do research ? Argh
Thanks for the tips - they're very helpful. Understanding the underlying system gives a huge advantage! I've noticed that the buddy occasionally walks up to a wild Pokémon and hangs around it. i wonder if catching that particular Pokémon gives an emotion point.
So...I didn't quite follow what you said about the cp boost. Is it like, a temporary cp boost for a best buddy, only as long as they're you're active buddy? That's what I'm gathering but I'm not 100 on it. Also, if you DO reply to this, Nick... You don't have to acknowledge this part at all but I just wanted to say that I'm really glad to see you out and about and playing. I have been sleeping 12 hours at a time and spending pretty much all day in a dark bedroom bc seasonal depression on top of a myriad of other every day mental health issues SUCKS. But it doesn't stop me worrying about the people I care about, and you're on that list. I just wanted to say that I feel you, I can commiserate. I'm glad you are getting some sunshine and fresh air and making some videos. :) feed your soul, babes.
You are correct. It can only be applied in battle if it's your current buddy. Wow. Before your post I pretty much said the same thing to him about being out and about. It's healthy you know? I hope you're able to get through your woes though. Cheers.
The CP boost only applies to the Pokémon that is currently your buddy, so only one Pokémon can have a CP boost at a time. And I appreciate the concern and kind words. We’ll get through this!
You should mention that when your buddy is excited, it gets two hearts at a time for completing each task. So, if you give a Poffin first thing in the morning, you minimize what you have to do with your buddy. Otherwise, after getting it excited doing tasks, you'll have to go back and "earn" the play, snapshot, and battling bonus hearts. Also, walking with your buddy is DRASTICALLY reduced since you'd get six hearts for walking 6km. In your video, you had already walked 4km, to get two hearts, and you'd have to walk another 4km to get the other four hearts. Plus, you'll have to spend more berries to feed it, when a Poffin automatically maxes out the feeding's six hearts. Poffins are great if you don't have many berries, and you don't mind spending the 100 coins.
When you are actually done by making your buddy's mood exited.........You are exhausted as hell🤯and believe me it's gonna hurt when you reach there at 11:30 pm. LOL
Same lol. Super salty about the implementation of such a cool concept. I also pass of the go rocket as well. "too tedious for so little reward" perfectly said
Thank you for the tips on the buddy's mood! Worked perfectly for me. Just an update: According to my tally as well, my buddy reached max happiness at 30 emotion points (not 32) and it reached the 2nd to last level at 15 points. Could be a mistake on my part in counting, and I'll confirm again tomorrow and share the update.
You literally spend the majority of the day getting the bonuses then have no time and/or energy to experience them. I didn't even know about this excitement system as the only mention of it in the app says 'Poffins make your buddy excited faster than regular berries'. Just another way to monetise the game I guess
Doing some detective work, the 3 berries you fed Sandrew to earn 1 heart seemed to count, so you actually started with 3 emotion points... +1 when you petted it made it 4 points. The snapshot & battle made it 6 points before you headed out.
Hey...so in my pokemon data it says I can evolve my Feebas into Milotic, if I make Feebas my buddy and walk 20km..is it just me or others have same...plz tell me
There are other Pokémon that require walking a certain distance to walk before evolving like Happiny and some others. Just do what the game shows you that you have to do
Good luck evolving Feebas...they are extremely rare in my area and have had him as buddy for awhile now. Feebas doesn't seem to register the distance accurately as buddy on the map either compared to other Pokemon. So I'm stuck with him for a long time yet if I want to complete that research task....sigh
@Trainer Tips Thanks for the excellent tutorial on how to excite your buddy! I'd imagine at least a few things have changed over the last four months (it's now April 2020), but still very helpful advice and info! I'd no idea about the mood point system before watching this -- it seems to me that pogo buds need even more attention than chihuahuas.
but they already gave you the faces. The only time a progress bar would be helpful is from fun to excited Note: there's actually 7 emotional states Tired state = 0 emotional point Dull state = 1 point Normal state = 2 points Happy state = 4 points Smile state = 8 points Fun state = 16 points Excited state = 32 points
Okay let's be honest, the hairstyle commonly gets the "wtf is that hair man get that fixed ASAP" comment. But Nick pulls it off better than anyone I've seen with that hair.
Can we just boycott or not use the buddy system (besides walking for candies of course) since the excited mood is kind of a cash grab for us to buy poffins? Like why can't being best buddies with a pokemon give us half distance towards our buddies candies?? Edit: I wish Nick included what time he finally achieved "excited" on his sandshrew. It's hard to say for sure but it seems like it took most of his day to reach it.
lmao you fucking ungrateful idiot. you don't lose anything because of the new system, but rather only gain from it. you can get best buddies without spending a dime. what more do you want? why would you think Niantic wouldn't want to make any money and just hand everything to you on a silver platter?
@@Lb-ri5wr How so? I very rarely spend money on the game, and I'm not gonna spend it now on a Poffin. It's an additional feature that's here for people to enjoy how they want. If you don't like it, don't use it and play the game like you were doing last week... What exactly were you expecting?? Sure it'd be nice if half distance candy was a thing for best buddies but it's hardly a feature that's making the game worse...
My buddy is Riolu I love his naruto run :D I like this new feature. Also many people don't know but if you don't care about this buddy feature you can go to options and turn it off
How does the cp boost effect the PVP entries, Say I have a buddy that will be cp 2499 or even 2500 cp if lucky enough to get one, if they get the boost would that keep them from being eligible for the Ultra League?
Love the video, thank god for you sharing this info with us. What would we do without you Nick :) But I have a few gripes with this new buddy rework in terms of usefulness. I love the aesthetic, but to me thats where the utility ends. Sorry this is a big rant, idk if I'm alone in this, but basically: 1. If you only get the CP boost when the Pokemon is your active buddy, its way too much work for that effort. Considering only 1 mon in a raid or pvp team will ever be boosted. 2. If it would be a 5 level boost maybe it's useful for people with lower level Pokemon, but at high levels a ~3% boost is barely anything. 3. It seems really unfair that that the mood resets from excited to neutral within 19 hours of inactivity or at day end (why swap buddies ever, let alone 20 times?) 4. Based on the grind Nick did in the vid, it'd take a month or two to hit Best Buddies. Even if you look at the 1/2 buddy candy distance (reducing 20km to 10km, which imo is a huge benefit), one rare candy neutralizes that. Basically, if this Buddy feature could somehow get rare candies (at best buddy), keep the cp boost when the mon isnt your buddy, and maybe make some information that YOU mentioned more transparent, it'd be a much better and more useful system for more people.
Wow! It's been a while I haven't watched Trainer Tips and here I am coming back and seeing you really tired and worn out. Are you ok? Maybe you should take a break?
Oh man! Depression? That really sucks. :( Sure, talk about it if it helps Nick. I personaly won't always be able to listen to that stuff, cause I guess it's too depressing, heh ':D But I definitely wouldn't want to watch you repress all that and watch a fake video. I think what you call depression might just be your coping to change. Maybe you just don't have any motivation and your body is just telling you "Woah, slow down, just chill and look around for a second" until you find that next thing that is going to captivate you. I can definitely relate in a way. It seems to me however that you are reactive. You know when it's "too much" and you're like "Ok, gotta take my head out of the gutter and do something, whatever that might be". To me, that shows someone who has healthy mechanisms. If I could give just one advice, it would be "Don't judge yourself too hard. Don't interpret your actions necessarily as a flaw in yourself. Trust that you are not bad and inadequate, because you don't know why you act that way, so there is no use worrying about it too much.". Hope you'll feel better. :)
Thanks for the tips, as always. Haven’t watched in a couple years, so I have to say: That hair style looks as good on you as it did in me in 1996-97...

how long does it take for mood to drop? does it stick at its highest point for 3 hours for all moods, or just excited?
I was so happy to get a notification of a new video from you. I hope you're doing better and getting better. Truly. Take care of yourself.
Lol 6:30 the search for lapras continues once more.
Glad you had the motivation to make another video. Keep ik up Nick!
Agreed. Why do thy have adventuring as a perk of Good Buddy level of it goes away? Too complicated
It takes a lot of effort to do it everyday. And to think I was excited about this update, too.
Rockin the bowl cut with the middle part!.....takes me back to elementary
You started at 10:12am, what time was it when you got Sandrew to excited status? Looked like about 12:22pm from your screen recording, is that accurate?
Yep, it took a little over 2 hours.
Yeah but he also ate lunch LOL
Unless lunch was exactly 30 minutes that slowed him down
I like this video alot because alot of details and even demonstration is done for us to see is legit real. And for those have cool downs can take a look at the time after actions is done and set a timer for the next. That will make things easier.
another mechanic to grind out, niantic never wants us to close the app lol
For bigger lifehack u dont need complete any of these battles just get buddy in party and leave it if u want test for urself just swap buddy go to team leader do 1 atack and leave it will count as a heart so every 30min cdr like raid gym leader rocket count as exicted point
They really need to just add a "max out" option or be able to type in how many times you want to power up your pokemon.
Such a tedious and exhausting task for such little in return. But im happy to always have new things to do. Love all your vids nick, take care :)
YOUR BANGS THO 😭😭😭😭😭😥😥 that's hard core brother!
WOOORD HE DONT LOOK HOMELESS WHEN HE TAKES HIS BASEBALL CAP OFF
Its been so long since you made an informative video this good. Thanks Nick. Very very very helpful
Yes
this type of video is the reason i subscribed to this channel
So setting my mew as my buddy for half candy distance is a complete waste since half distance only lasts 3 hours. Thats some bad game design. It should just be half distance from the third level of buddies.
Or perhaps there marketing side of it is "too good" because with it like that, players will be inclined to put in really money.
@@Lb-ri5wr you can also earn coins from gym defending? A poffin is like 100 coins? 2 days of max gym defending. Not a problem.
@@Kat-mu8wq 2 days for a single poffin, then after 3 hours its happiness goes back down, whats the point
makes sense actually that spinning a gym would be a new place since the teams take them over changing the gym to that color team.
Now I need to learn how to get my man excited. 😁

Cheers.
Seasonal depression does suck. I hate it. Working overnight doesn’t help.
LOL
Good to see you out of the house Nick. A little sunshine goes a long way.
Too tedious for so little reward.... Just like the rocket monthly quest... Another pass feature for me :)
Same lol. Super salty about the implementation of such a cool concept. I also pass of the go rocket as well. "too tedious for so little reward" perfectly said
@@SporeVenom You can just turn it off then
Agree
yep... I gave up on the team rocket stuff, and this buddy thing seems good but not really... its like a chore within a game...
honestly the only good part of this feature is getting to see our buddy on the overworld
Yeah if you don't go out and spin a pokestop it takes 4 hours to get the excited status.
A good old Trainer Tips video. Thank you for the information :)
Hey Nick, very helpful video... i was wondering how long took you to reach excited mood with Sandshrew from 0 to 32 points?
About 2 hours, but I definitely could have been more efficient.
Thank you for the info. Was looking for information about the Exited mood.
Doing some detective work, the 3 berries you fed Sandrew to earn 1 heart seemed to count, so you actually started with 3 emotion points... +1 when you petted it made it 4 points. The snapshot & battle made it 6 points before you headed out.
I ❤️ these type of videos! Reminds me of the footsteps !
Hey...so in my pokemon data it says I can evolve my Feebas into Milotic, if I make Feebas my buddy and walk 20km..is it just me or others have same...plz tell me
{kõigest. vares} ohh..i am new here so thank u
@Trainer Tips
Thanks for the excellent tutorial on how to excite your buddy!
I'd imagine at least a few things have changed over the last four months (it's now April 2020), but still very helpful advice and info!
I'd no idea about the mood point system before watching this -- it seems to me that pogo buds need even more attention than chihuahuas.
Niantic should add a small additional progress bar under the mood indicator.
but they already gave you the faces. The only time a progress bar would be helpful is from fun to excited
Note: there's actually 7 emotional states
Tired state = 0 emotional point
Dull state = 1 point
Normal state = 2 points
Happy state = 4 points
Smile state = 8 points
Fun state = 16 points
Excited state = 32 points
I think gyms should count towards new locations, as you still gain most benefits that regular Pokéstops offer except for lures, plus you get gifts too
Okay let's be honest, the hairstyle commonly gets the "wtf is that hair man get that fixed ASAP" comment. But Nick pulls it off better than anyone I've seen with that hair.
Thank you so much. It is very useful and easy to follow.
You don't have to use the buddy system and you're not being forced to buy poffins… They can't just hand everything to you on a plate...
Exactly, you don't benifit from half distance unless you have like a 2km pokemon on. I cant walk my mew 10k in 3 hours, its bs
@@Helios1234p people like you are the reason EA still exist
lmao you fucking ungrateful idiot. you don't lose anything because of the new system, but rather only gain from it. you can get best buddies without spending a dime. what more do you want? why would you think Niantic wouldn't want to make any money and just hand everything to you on a silver platter?
@@Lb-ri5wr How so? I very rarely spend money on the game, and I'm not gonna spend it now on a Poffin. It's an additional feature that's here for people to enjoy how they want. If you don't like it, don't use it and play the game like you were doing last week... What exactly were you expecting?? Sure it'd be nice if half distance candy was a thing for best buddies but it's hardly a feature that's making the game worse...
Thank you. This video was actually very, very helpful.
What does the “total days: 0” mean in the upper left corner on the details page?
That is such a well explained video! Thank you so much. :)

How does the cp boost effect the PVP entries, Say I have a buddy that will be cp 2499 or even 2500 cp if lucky enough to get one, if they get the boost would that keep them from being eligible for the Ultra League?
I believe it raises their CP, so for the lower PVP leagues it will only help some pokemon who can't max out at 1500 or 2500.
Quick answer to your question is yes!
Love the video, thank god for you sharing this info with us. What would we do without you Nick :)
But I have a few gripes with this new buddy rework in terms of usefulness. I love the aesthetic, but to me thats where the utility ends.
Sorry this is a big rant, idk if I'm alone in this, but basically:
3. It seems really unfair that that the mood resets from excited to neutral within 19 hours of inactivity or at day end (why swap buddies ever, let alone 20 times?)
Time to get Dialga E X C I T E D

Wow! It's been a while I haven't watched Trainer Tips and here I am coming back and seeing you really tired and worn out. Are you ok? Maybe you should take a break?
Oh, actually you look better later Nick. Maybe you had just woken up. :P
George Pivey check out one of his previous videos (couple of videos back) he talks about it there
Oh man! :)
Your love for Sandrew is cute and wholesome and great and I enjoy it :3

Yeah, you get additional help catching Pokemon (very useful at raids), extra items (including poffins), a bonus extra 5 levels past max (very useful for raids and PvP) and half walking distance for buddy candy.
I hope the gym thing isn't a bug--we only have six accessible stops in our town so it's nice to be able to check off that daily task with a gym spin. :)
