  • I am trying to improve the performance of my homemade powder coating gun high voltage generator. I experimented with using a motorcycle ignition coil and a CRT TV flyback transformer to be used in conjunction with the high voltage cascade.
    Below is the link to my first homemade powder coating gun high voltage cascade module:

    9:18 just remove the first capacitor that is connected to the flyback and the first diode and polarise them right and your multiplier will work even with DC is just like the capacitive droper on light bulbs that enter ac and block dc 😊

    Will you use some resistor at the end like in the old version ? I think it was 1M ohm Resistor

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. I tried with and without that resistor at the end and did not see any noticeable difference. I have seen other videos in TH-cam with folks making similar high voltage cascade and they use the resistor at the end to limit the current spike that can destroy the diodes, as they say. So far I have not experienced broken HV diode, probably because I am only using low power, about 6 volts input to the supply. However I do intend to use a resistor at the end as soon as I find about 1M probably use 2 in series. I am only recycling components from old circuit boards and 1M range resistor are hard to come by.

      Hi. Circuit diagram at 2:37. Most MOSFET used in switching mode power supply should work. The mosfet I used in the video is a 2SK3569 which I just recycle from old UPS board. Other people use IRF530N Mosfet, which is a common component.

    Nagbabalak din magbuo ng ganito pero for the purpose of flock application sir. As of now zvs + flyback kasi gamit ko kaya lang not enough ang static power nya para iapply sa gusto ko.

    Are you using both transformers for the gun as well? And the final value of the frequency generator is 700Hz?

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In this video I experimented with the ignition coil and tv flyback to see if they will work. The TV flyback will definitely work but it is too big for my gun design. The ignition coil stop working at frequency above 700 Hz. The frequency for the high voltage cascade should be in the range of about 15 to 20 kHz.

    What diodes did you use? I can only find 5ma 20kv diodes locally.
    Also which cascade do you find works better?

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  ปีที่แล้ว

      See at 6:34 for the second cascade I used 10 kV diodes which are cheaper and smaller. The second version of the cascade with more stages produce slightly higher voltage. Only a slight increase in the output voltage compared to the 5-stage version because I think the ac output of the transformer is not powerful enough to utilize the full potential of addition cascade stages. The 20kV diodes will work. I think in the first version I used 30kV just because that is what's available to buy that time.

      I can't find 1nf 10kv or 30kv locally

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. The mosfet is used to turn on and off power to the transformer primary winding. The 555 ic output pin cannot handle the high current load if you connect the transformer primary winding directly to the IC output pin 3. You can buy HV generator kits that already have the mosfet. Try to search 20 kV high voltage generator kit. It is ready made and you don't have to build the oscillator and mosfet switch separately.

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@colorslaveworkshop2029 I don't think 2kV is enough. However, if that is what you have and you can get that cheap, you can try building the cascade with 2 or more capacitors in series in place of 1 capacitor. That will increase the voltage rating. The capacitance value will decrease but it will probably work.

Balak ko i powder coating kaya ako naging interesado sa homemade powder coating. Sa ngayon kasi hindi pa rin ako nasisiyahan sa performance nung mga homemade gun ko. Kaya kung ano ano yung mga sinusubukan ko na setup. Kung sakali na makabuo ako nung unit na kampante ako sa performance, pwede din siguro ako magbuo pa kahit pa isa isa para sa mga gusto mag DIY. Siempre budget meal na presyo. Low budget lang din ako kaya makikita nyo sa videos ko karamihan recycled materials kahit yung mga pyesa ng electronics.
