  • Take a drive up five-mile Taylor Canyon Road which turns off the western portion of White Rim Road near Labyrinth Campsite. Going up Taylor Canyon, the road ends near the rock formations called Zeus and Moses, where there is a primitive campsite (camping permit required). Total dirt road driving time is about 80 minutes from Utah State Route 313.

    My wife and I in our separate Jeeps (2009 Rubicon and 2015 Unlimited) drove the entire White Rim loop and Taylor Canyon in 2015 after it rained the night before. Lots of mud😲. Three days and camped along the way. Camp sites in high demand. One of our best off road adventures. Great video!

    Spectacular ! ! ! ... There's some small treacherous moments where a portion of the track had fallen off down to the river leaving a VERY-NARROW track. Great audio choice too ! Thanks for the pleasure !

      An word of advice, if you are going down long canyon from Dead Horse Point, or Schaefer Trail from Island in the sky, go down hill way first unless you are firmly confident in your rig. So awesome there. Safe travels

      Mike Robbins - Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to do the whole White Rim Road. I recommend at least three days. It’s a good time! On this particular trip I just went into Taylor Campsite for two nights then back out.

    • @mikerobbins5049
      @mikerobbins5049 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Clark Yes, I have read enough and watched videos enough to know 3 days at least for White Rim. Problem is, we are not much of campers, at least the wife isnt. Another problem is we arent youngsters. We are both retired and like our comfy beds but I would love camping for a couple of nites. I might regret it afterwards though....

    • @dave3b5d
      @dave3b5d  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mikerobbins5049 When I did the whole White Rim Road I went with two other old geezers like myself. None of us are real camping fans but we did what we had to, for the experience. There's really no other way to tour that road. We saw a couple motorcyclists who were trying to do the whole loop in a day but that would seem to take all the fun out of it. We decided four days and three nights would have been better since we would have had more time for stopping, looking, hiking, picture taking, etc.

    Hi Dave, enjoyed the video very much. My wife and I visited Moab in late September, rented a jeep and tackled some trails. We went down the Shafer switchbacks back to Moab, but something like the White Rim trail would require more planning and time. May I ask what vehicle you used ? Doesn't look like it's a Wrangler.

    • @daveclark8197
      @daveclark8197 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was in a Subaru Crosstrek. I would not recommend attempting the entire
      White Rim Road in a Subaru but the stretch from Mineral Road to Taylor
      Camp is not bad. That section could be done in just about any high
      clearance 4WD vehicle. Several sections of White Rim Road would require
      heavy duty 4WD with low gear range because there are some steep and very
      rocky stretches.

    • @elieuncle
      @elieuncle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Clark Thank you ! Funny and coincidentally that's also the car I drive daily, had the Forrester before this and my wife drives an Impreza. Having virtually no experience we did use low range going down the Shafer switchbacks in the rented Jeep. Unfortunate that Subarus are AWD and don't have transfer cases with low gearing, or I don't know if such a thing exists, auto mechanics are not my forte. I've thing many videos of the White Rim trail showing those segments that surely require low range 4WD, as you mentioned.

    From highway 313 how long would you say this took you? My google maps says from Moab to the end of Taylor Canyon takes an hour and twenty four minutes. But I drive this roads slower than most even though I have a nice four wheel drive car.

    • @dave3b5d
      @dave3b5d  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but I don't remember the exact timing. I seem to remember it was about two hours from when we left Arches Park (near Moab) until we were at the campsite in Taylor Canyon. But it might have been longer. You might want to allow three if you drive slowly. Don't forget to reserve the site. Enjoy!

  • @2200Z
    @2200Z 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had to think about this for a minute. You said western portion of White Rim, so I just assumed you came around from Potash/Shafer. But, the Green River is on your right and then you took a left. Doh! You came in from from the north.
    I'm heading out there next weekend. I just added this trail to the list. Last year, I started heading out that way from 313, but what a maze of roads. I think I ended up on Mineral Point overlook trail. And, then I drove into a thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rain. Not a big deal, since I'm from Nebraska and we see severe weather all of the time. But, being up on the plateau with a ground-scraping storm meant the visibility was horrible. So, I turned back and hung around the park for a bit.
    Thank you for posting.
    P.S. Whatever happened to the band?

    • @dave3b5d
      @dave3b5d  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I suppose you could say I approached from the north on Mineral Road, getting to Taylor Canyon on the west side of the Island in The Sky District. To go in from Potash or Shafer Trail would require driving the entire White Rim Road, nearly 100 miles, which takes days. Have a fun trip! If you plan on camping in Taylor Canyon keep in mind you must make reservations.
