Im doing a similar build but I dont have a variac or motor yet. Ive been using a drill with a pulley in the chuck. I used a c-clamp on the drill trigger. Its sorta of a pain to get the drill at the speed I want. Any recommendations for variable speed motors on the cheap?
I've used a drill motor for a ball mill in the past, it is a pain. You can get DC motor PWM drivers off of ebay that should do a good job controlling a motor. After this ball mill I made a much better version. I guess I never uploaded a video on it...I recall recording it though. Good luck with your ball mill project!
Awesome build. Super cool features :) What are you planning to do? Stone wash jeans for Smurfs?....(joking) I am sure you have an awesome purpose for it.. Again, cool build. Peace.
By far the best and most do-able design! thank you :)
I built one using your design and it works great. Thanks for the idea.
I screwed 2 skateboard trux and wheels back to back and it made a perfect cradle and spins like a dream with my old german bearings!
I am plannning to build one, so this came at the best time :D
Also, very simple and clean desing. Gave me some ideas.
This is brilliant if you ask me.

How do you avoid static buildup?

Old sewing machine motor, with the foot pedal. Should b easy enough to open the pedal up and lock it at the speed u need :)
Take a potentiometer from a radio or something. Im making mine with a wall ac motor... so that wont cut it for me. Ill actually need a variac.
The variable speed control the big green unit with black dial .....whats it called ? I can,t quite make out what he said in this video .
A variac
Thank you for helping me ! Have a Great Weekend !!!!!!

Currently (and in the video) it is milling aluminum into dark aluminum powder for pyrotechnic use
Electrotechnics Awesome :)
Aluminum powder from foil. Trust me you dont want to use a mortar and pestle.
can I fill stuff that want and marbles in a jar and rotatit by hand?
Jovilas Bartkus You could, but you'd have to be cranking it for a long time.
Or you could plug it somehow to the back axle on a stationary bike and kill more than one bird with only one stone. :-)
What is inside? What is the purpose ?
