I screwed 2 skateboard trux and wheels back to back and it made a perfect cradle and spins like a dream with my old german bearings!

Im doing a similar build but I dont have a variac or motor yet. Ive been using a drill with a pulley in the chuck. I used a c-clamp on the drill trigger. Its sorta of a pain to get the drill at the speed I want. Any recommendations for variable speed motors on the cheap?

I've used a drill motor for a ball mill in the past, it is a pain. You can get DC motor PWM drivers off of ebay that should do a good job controlling a motor.
After this ball mill I made a much better version. I guess I never uploaded a video on it...I recall recording it though.
Good luck with your ball mill project!

Old sewing machine motor, with the foot pedal. Should b easy enough to open the pedal up and lock it at the speed u need :)

Take a potentiometer from a radio or something. Im making mine with a wall ac motor... so that wont cut it for me. Ill actually need a variac.

Awesome build. Super cool features :) What are you planning to do? Stone wash jeans for Smurfs?....(joking) I am sure you have an awesome purpose for it.. Again, cool build. Peace.

Aluminum powder from foil. Trust me you dont want to use a mortar and pestle.

Jovilas Bartkus You could, but you'd have to be cranking it for a long time.

Or you could plug it somehow to the back axle on a stationary bike and kill more than one bird with only one stone. :-)
