- It was such a privilege to be able to race this legendary track again. I remember watching the likes of Stevie Smith, Tyler Morland, Sam Hill and Kovarik race this back in the day.
It was proper steep and flat out for so long!

I always use the term „push bike“ for downhillers, which aren’t able to climb a hill.
There was no Hike-a-Bike in there. There was lack of training, endurance and skill.

This is one of those tracks thats scary even on go pro footage. Cant imagine what it looks like in person

Seems to me that the lighter enduro bike is the obvious choice for this track taking into account the multiple pedal sections and hike a bike

To be fair the slayer is practically a downhill bike that pedals like a champ

@@TrTriTrippin They wouldn't even drop in. The run in has serious gopro effect and the sign at the top says it gets steeper after the first corner.
Super fun course though!
If you haven't ridden the unmarked trails on Mt. Ashland in Oregon you don't know steep.

That is just insanely fast. That beginning - the GoPro effect makes you think: why isn't he going a bit faster? But hearing the skidding, you can tell it's just so insanely steep that it's a super careful balancing act between not completely skidding out and picking up too much speed you can't get any braking done anymore.
Then some hike a bike, and more super steep stuff, which I can't believe you rode that fast. And it's just all pure singletrack, no real line choice, or "I'll go a little wider to bleed off speed for a turn" - it's do or die! And it just...
...goes...
...on.
Well done Jesse. Not sure where you finished, but well done. I look at the hundreds of turns you did at mach speed on this run, and it makes it all the more unbelievable that you crashed in the Enduro last week.
Hooooooooly heck! That drop at 9:20-ish scared me, and i'm a comfy chair!
Hopefully they hold this for a few more years, so Sam can come back and defend his title on new equipment (13 years later?), pretty sure he would take a little time off his old record with bigger wheels and slacker geo, not to mention better tires, brakes, etc...

Crazy endurance man, I would have to stop at least 3 times! A long track in the UK is a quater of this track.
I've never seen a POV of this course, thanks for posting. Also didn't realize how long it is. My forearms woulda been blown out within the first mile, as steep as it looks. Didn't see the 'lap' comparison to Hills time, I'll have to look that up. Hella fast run, all on a single crown - must be the 38 up front, pulling damping duty!
I remember watching an old Mahalo My Dude/ IFHT video on this, was nuts then, is nuts now

For a pro to be taking it that cautiously in the beginning sector, you know it's gnarly as hell. You can hear the rear tire dragging like crazy!
I have to get over to Golden! That would be a super fun hour long descent for me
It’s so surreal seeing the hill I grew up sledding on being used as a racetrack again, and being absolutely picked apart and obliterated like this!!! Very very cool to see, that was some amazing racing

That is crazy steep, most of us probably couldn't even ride that at all. And they even had trailside snacks most of the way, lots of huckleberry bushes next to the trail hehe.

Sam's time was back in the day was 12:49. Crazy how much bikes have evolved since then 😮
However the course may have. Changed a little since then and the shortcut Jesse took maybe wasn't available then so Sam's time is still pretty close 👍
Let's not forget how much heavier those bikes are too vs these new skool ones
This section hasn't been raced in like 12 years. All but one rider beat the trail record.

The uphill part where you had to get off the bike made me exhausted just from watching.

Also, Fox 38 on the front, so, 180mm travel with 38mm stantions, pretty much a DH fork from 13 years ago.
