    • @TheClassicWorld
      @TheClassicWorld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You clearly misunderstand since they are all simply Ricky being himself in some form or another. So, to say they are all failed impressions of his performance in The Office is absurd. In fact, to say that it was a brilliant performance is wrong, too (Ricky says this himself). And he has said this himself of his acting, that is to say, his acting is not really acting at all. Just Ricky being Ricky in some form.

    This scene really shows me the difference between us and British comedy, us has clear and colorful comedic characters but British is a lot more dry humor with more grounded and grey characters and both play to their strengths. IMO of course both are just as good.

      @sofiaguerrero0969 4 ปีที่แล้ว +230

    People need to stop arguing about the American/English versions. They are targeted at totally different audiences. We have separate cultures with different values for things like this. Of course English people (in the majority) will prefer their versions and Americans likewise will prefer their own, bc they were made for them. Even discussing it is useless bc we have no objective criteria to argue against. Stop bashing each other, there is literally no point.

    I love the US version of this show, but I kind of feel bad that the original version doesn't get enough appreciation or even recognition. Even if you prefer the American version, we have to give the British version more credit. The Brits thought of many of the jokes, scenes, etc (for the first few seasons anyway), we just changed up the jokes, delivery, along with a few other things, and then made our own plot later for the rest of the series. Without the UK version, Greg Daniel's US version wouldn't exist.

    • @memo-fq3ps
      @memo-fq3ps 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @DriftZ TwoSeven To be fair, there are plenty of comedy sitcoms from the US that are pretty original (as far as I know). The problem is that a lot of Americans seem to only focus on The Office and Friends. But I agree to an extent, especially about the Marvel movies. I like Marvel superhero movies as much as the next guy, but they're starting to get pretty old pretty quick, especially when it's about the same characters over and over again most of the time.
      I don't know about the UK though. I know very few modern British shows tbh.

    • @justinvancil4596
      @justinvancil4596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @DriftZ TwoSeven The US version ran for 9 seasons, and most people would say the best seasons were 3-6, when it moved past the British bits and become more of its own show, so this argument is weak.

      You're the first American I've heard give the original Office respect. Usually they're like "UK VERSION SUCKS! USA! USA! USA!" or something equally not constructive and invalid. So as a Brit, I appreciate your respect.
      Personally, I value both shows greatly, and the US version with at least the same love. It started off that I was pissed off because all the characters were carbon copies and even the material was all ripped directly, and don't get me started on how much changing "Tim" to "Jim" annoyed me, lol - BUT they soon became unique individual characters and the overall show had a different feel. Not necessarily better or worse, just different and great in it's own right.

    The difference between the sophisticated "David." and the aggravated "Michael!" really shows the difference in the style of comedy. British comedy is typically subtle and laid back, whereas American comedy is rambunctious and direct. Although both have their pros and cons,, usually I prefer British comedy. But the Office is an exception to that.

    Not all American's are "too dumb" to understand the humor in this show. I'm from Texas, but I prefer UK Top Gear, UK Sherlock, and UK Office. Doesn't mean US Office was completely terrible. Just suited for a different audience. I know people who are turned off by this show because of the accents. Shallow, I know, but I also have met a few British people that are turned off by American dialects, as well. I did see US Office before this one was available on Netflix, but I definitely prefer the UK awkward face-palming humor than the desperate 9-season-long humor of US.

    The UK version feels more like a documentary than a mockumentary

    What the US version got wrong was at the "How do you know it was me?" line. Jim is eating completely different jelly whereas Tim is eating the jelly cubes used to put Gareth's stapler in the jelly.

    You say this has bad actors, but it is what it is. It's meant to be relatable and the comedy is meant to be subtle. That's what makes it genius.

      Anyone who says bad acting doesn’t get this show its supposed to be a mock u mentary ordinary people being filmed at work that’s why it’s underplayed no place for a Dustin Hoffman or Al Pacino school of acting type here I’m afraid

    The UK version and the US version are both great. UK version is definitely more dry at times and the US version is definitely more slapstick at times. So it's cool you can watch both of them and get different reactions.
