I love this. When I get a car I will try to sign up to volunteer at one near me. I work at a daycare as well and we take foster kids I will definitely be telling the foster families about it!
I've volunteered at Royal Family Kids Camp (ironically literally wearing my shirt right now) for over 5 years and its such an amazing and wonderful experience! There 's also a sister camp for teens in foster care called Teen Reach Adventure Camp and it's also so so exceptional. I encourage anyone to volunteer if they truly have the heart and desire for it!
My sister in law, brother, niece, nephew, my niece's husband all volunteer for the Spokane Chapter. My sister in law is the AWESOME camp director for that location. They have a blast and do TONS of fun things.
I know the foster care system is messed up. Thank you for sharing about this camp. I wish they had something like that in my city. My sister has a foster child she's had since she was 18 months old. She turns five next month. How do you explain to a baby why she can't see her mom? Parental right have been terminated. She is the sweetest child but she is subject to melt downs. 😮 I know she's getting better because she will break into singing "I am not forgotten, God knows my name" whenever she's feeling down. 😊
I’ve volunteered at Royal Family Kids Camp! It’s an awesome camp for kids for in foster care from ages 7-11. I have helped in numerous ways from check in, to being Crafty Ginger at camp. One year I even made blankets, help make decorations for rooms. There’s just so many ways to help camp happen each year!
My church takes 40-60 kids year. It’s a minimal cost to the family. The counselors fund raise so it keeps the cost low. They try and take as many sibling groups as possible. The counselors go up Sunday, so they can decorate the cabins. One year a friend’s cabin was Christmas themed, so we sewed Christmas printed pillow cases and stockings for each camper in their cabin. Another friend had his wife sew super hero caps and his cabin had Spider-Man on the roof. The counselors always try to our do each other in creativity. Also another church supplies a birthday box for each child. They have a budget for each box. Another church supplied blankets. Not sure they do that anymore as Camp is in the summer. Our location in San Diego County has a swimming pool and several people who have been Junior lifeguards here (I live near the beach so it’s a thing here) will teach kids how to swim. The senior lifeguard will test them to ensure they are ok to be in the pool. For the birthday celebration, they have a Carnival which we didn’t have the year I went. Our church has been doing it close to 20 years and I went the second year, so we were still learning how to do it. They also have a tea party one day and archery course for everyone. Each Camp has a trained director that goes to a week of training and each person that goes has to be trained, background checked and thumb printed. Each Camp includes a pastor and a counselor/therapist and a nursing team for all the medications the kids are on. One of the things I loved about the camp we went to is they would cook special meals for the picky kids and eat as much as they wanted. It’s life changing camp even if you’ve never been involved with foster kids. My favorite part of camp is they each get a photo album of pictures of themselves and the team. The kids who are aging out usually want anyone who touched their lives to sign their book. Everyone cries when the kids leave. Within our church I’d say, at least one family that has a family member volunteer ends up foster adopting a child from foster care. Really that’s the best part! Praising God for his great work at Camp!
This was such a blessing. I agree with your guest, Jesus Christ will never leave you or forsake you. To introduce someone to a personal relationship with Him is the best thing you could do for anyone.
Hello, I would love to talk to you guys about my story growing up in foster care and separated from my siblings for 10 years and aging out, and losing my parents to addiction. I have been watching you guys for years and you’ve all truly helped me through it all. The system is broken all over the world, hopefully I’ll get to talk to you guys some day all about it. Sending love from Ireland ❤
The other way to help is with the Christmas celebration. Rfkc makes sure that each kid and sibling gets a Christmas gift. So donating a gift or helping wrap can help too. And TBRI training is essential to helping kids with trauma.
Royal Family Kids Camp- still in touch with my camper she is 16! But she was 7 when I first met her. The camp also has a Jesus component to it as well- and all the camps around the world have the same scripture and theme no matter where!
I love RFKC. I volunteered with them for two years. It's so amazing to see foster kiddos thrive. My favorite part of the week is always the talent show. One little boy had just been adopted and sang Fight Song by Rachel Platten. I've had other kids find out that I was a former foster kid and had been adopted and said your normal so does that mean that I will be too?!?!😢 ❤❤❤ love this episode!
I just want to say Thankyou! I always knew I wanted to go into social work but your channel has made me realize foster care is where I want to put my all into. I start my msw in the fall and I can’t wait for my future
I think it’s sad that there are places like this, but there are not a lot of it that is known to the public like you have to research and find it because I feel like if it was more available easier,
I will love to her from the adopted kids, how they talk with new kids that joins the family, when they first come in. what do the new kids ask, and what do the kids that have been adopted for years say. what is that talk like. Love from Brian i Denmark
Oh boy crazy 😝 crystal Arron is sick again were do we write the message on piece of us prodcast link it down below crystal i sent one in but not sure if you crystal got my message Annette 🦴
My husband is a magician and he has volunteered for this organization in the past. It has always been a great time for him!
Thank you so much for having me on the podcast! I had so much fun talking about Royal Family Kids Camp!

You guys should bring Shelly and Jarrod on the podcast xx
Second this! I’d love to know their parenting techniques.

If I remember correctly they have 5 themes they rotate through. Ie the Olympics was one of them.
