I’m only 28, but I am part of the generation that remembers my dad having a pager and finding a phone to use to communicate with the person who page. I remember when Netflix was only by mail. We consumed our music by radio or CD players. I had dial up internet and only local channels on tv. Don’t get me wrong, technology can be great in many aspects, but I feel that it’s done more harm than good at this point in society. I truly miss simpler times.

I’m 37 and I totally agree with you. The kids in the 80s are the last generation to live in simple times. I think it’s seriously sad what the powers to be is making the world become. My thoughts on not knowing cursive as well I think that’s a HUGE problem. Look at our countries documents it’s in cursive. People won’t know how to read it in the future.

Humans speaking the same language can't even understand eachother or comprehend when it is a parody or a serieus church speech, how can you communicate?
All the cultures in global society are different and have different opinions within the subcultures.
How can you rely on AI when we don't learn to use our individual intelligence?

My grandson is a junior in high school. My daughter recently took my grandson to open a bank account. My grandson literally had to practice signing his signature for an entire week before going to open up his bank account. How can our education system in this country not think this is important when as an adult you are required to sign your signature on all legal documents through our your adult life.

  • @SpecialEdTalk
    @SpecialEdTalk 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

The educational system in the US, falls way below other countries in the world. Here where I live, they do usually pass them through until grade 4. The belief is that grades 1-3 are foundation grades. But grade 4 and beyond kids can and will fail if they aren't doing the expected work. Writing skills are very important. Kids here have writing classes. No computer.... Physical writing. Use of the chome book is good as an accommodation for kids with dyslexia, dysgraphia or other writing challenges, but not as an everyday use for all students.

I was visiting with my son and some of his friends (all 51 years old) and they were looking up things on their phones that they were reminiscing about. They were able to bring up old pictures from their high school years and information about what some of their friends are doing now. One of them commented that it would be interesting to see what ads they got the next day from the phones collecting that data and listening to us.

I was driving through the mountain pass in Oregon and there was a very heavy dense fog and I could only see about 5ft in front of me, so at the time I could have used AI the most to make sure not to hit someone in front of me the whole AI System shut down and I no longer had distance or lane awareness on the car as it could not see in the fog either. (Back to old time driving, very glad I learned years ago).

Very interesting. It is also something that will be interesting to see how things unfold and get accepted or rejected in various cultures. Even the AI replacing dubbing for movies is interesting as I live in Eastern Europe now and my friends here have all said they hate the dubbing and would prefer to watch in English with subtitles. Also many of them have said that is how they learned English and so for them not having it in their language was preferred as it built another skill.

Hey, I agree there is both positive and negative potential for AI, so I try to make use of the positive and hope we can minimalise the negative. The device Crystal mentioned, the voice recorder with the transcribe, search and organise etc is the Plaud, I have it, and as a 50-year-old with both dyslexia and ADHD, it is life-changing! I highly recommend it for any of your kids (or adults) with similar struggles.

I was doing some research for a crochet class and found that scammers were asking AI to make patterns for such and such and putting it with a picture of such and such. Except AI has not yet learned to crochet, so the pattern did not actually make anything. When you order patterns from Etsy, you may not get what you are paying for.

Our school system did away with abcdf, we have E,S,N,C,I which mean excellent, Satisfactory, Needs work, comprehends, incomplete. These grading scales are so annoying and the kids hate them. Because when they get there grades in the computer from assignments. Being turned in things are not graded on time or inputted into the computer as they should if the kids have turned things in.

I personally HATE any dishonesty and I don’t take it personally but it does concern me for my kids and potential grandkids. There’s an ad that pops up on my phone with Kelly Clarkson “talking “ about these ACV Keto gummies and how she lost 40 lbs in a month. I’m smart enough to see that it’s AI because her mouth movement doesn’t match the words. It’s extremely irresponsible because they are trying to sell something that you put IN YOUR BODY. You only get one body. I’m concerned for all those that try to help their body to lose weight and then see those ads, and buys the product. This is just one example of potentially dangerous AI.

I do feel AI takes away from being a person if we had everything done with AI. With the cars I am curious when all cars have it does this take away jobs from state patrol and cops? Or would it help them? I do love the AI for kids helping with note taking because some kids struggle with that, but at the same time is that going to effect the teacher being recorded with teachers voice being used for other negative things? I wish I could see the future to see if it’s going to be difficult.

I agree with max AI is very dangerous and although people that may need it as Crystal described which I also agree with for special needs its more likely that technology will be used by people without disabilities and in turn make kids and adults very lazy and non not self sufficient. I remember back in high school they taught us about AI as a thing for the future and it seemed so far away in the class they told us that they were working on creating artificial spouses and the whole thing really disgusted me tbh. And it's so sad because so many people are losing their jobs due to this technology. I didn't know a false video was created of Taylor swift but I am not surprised considering apple has most people doing face I.D and snapchat also does facial recognition so they have many people faces already in their digital system which is why they ask for so many permissions on most apps. The best thing to do is get to know Jesus on a deeper level because we need him.

I am a baby boomer, so I grew up without technology, my mother had a wringer/washer and we hung our clothes on a clothes line. our tv was black and white, we had 3 channels on it. The 1-4 number system sucks. I live in New Brunswick, Canada, and the elementary and middle schools here does the 1-4 number system. I hate it. You don't really know how your kids are really doing in school. I loved it when my oldest moved over to high school and the percentages are there. Can't wait for my daughter to be in high school in the fall. My kids also hate the 1-4 number system because they said they would get all their answers right on a test and the student next to them only did have the test and they both got a "3" on the test. It made my kids want to stop doing their schoolwork, and they knew they were going to pass to the next grade anyway.

I feel like AI is like a gun. They are both powerful objects. You’re gonna have people who say it’s evil and it should be banned. I feel like it is how the person uses that power. A gun is not what shoots someone by itself. A person chooses to do that. AI doesn’t just make a porn video by itself with Taylor Swift. A person chooses to do that. People need to be held accountable for their actions and make ethical decisions. You’re never gonna be able to stomp out the evil way someone can use something. All you can do is lead by example. Use tools that give power like a gun or AI in a positive way.

A lot of the younger generations are behind 3 years in their knowledge because ò covid. If they didn't give them multiple tries, there would be so many more that would be below the mark and would probably repeat the grade. I don't know how they can help catch up to where they should be.

"AI" is just another tool. A tool is designed to ASSIST not to do. Someone becomes skilled at there job by doing. Creating tools that do instead of assisting hinders the ability and necessity to learn and hone your skills. When a tool becomes better than the user, The user is no longer needed. This will only create a society that no longer feels the need to learn.
Every thing we have is the result of someone seeing a need, Learning and creating a solution. If the solution is too good, There is no longer the need to learn.
Once you lose the ability to learn and create, Not only do you stop creating, You also lose the ability to maintain. This will lead to "tools" breaking down with no one able to repair them and the collapse of society.
I60 yrs ago 80% could get a broken car running, Now only 20% can even change a tire. t took us thousands of years to go from making fire to making "intelligent" machines. How long will it take to get back when (not if) it all collapses?

You say the education system is broken, but as parents you should be teaching at home as well. When Hanna asked for help with her talk, you should have helped her with her writing process, not turn to AI. You’re just as guilty as the school system.

I’m surprised your older children go to church as they don’t wear clothes that LDS kids do. Can they choose to go to church or not like Shelly’s kids have freedom now to do their own thing.

C&A don’t agree everything the LDS Church teaches. I believe if you get baptised then you have to comply. Not sure if they have been baptised. CM just don’t go to church at all, before that they were very strict about going to church.

All this crap their bringing is not good. Because when it all breaks down no one is gonna know how to function. All this stuff is not good, people are not going to know how to function. This is so sad, people would rather do all this stuff you say than actually use their brain & actually live. And the driving stuff it will never make it , because who can afford that stuff. Just my opinion

I was scammed my mom and I were scammed out of $3,000 come to find out we are investigating who did it we have to be very careful using personal information about family and friends you never know who's out there it was scary because they spoke my mother's language Portuguese and they knew a lot of details about the family so you don't know who you're talking to you can be talking to someone or a robot but you don't know you have to be careful

AI is in the world and it will stay there as long as we use computers. So it's useless to think about "do I want it to be there " - it simply is. What is most important now: we must learn how to use it.
The most important thing is: AI is NEVER creative. AI is trained with existing texts / images. It's all about probabilities: how many times was this word followed by that word / pixel? Then AI would choose one of the most probable words / pixels.
ChatGPT does not do any contentional research. It's only about words following each other. It looks for probability - not for truth. So its content is brilliantly put in words but not necessarily true.
So, what we need to teach (not only young people but everyone) is to read critically. Always ask yourself: is it true? Can it be? And is ist the entire thing or just a small aspect of it that leads you in a completely false direction?
Always keep in mind, what a program has been created for.
    Think critically.
    And most importantly: think!

I know this is a touch subject, and really none of our business. However the wearing virtual realty headset is wreaking havoc on our bodily function systems. Saying this with love, but Logans tremors maybe related to this. There is so much coming out about this that it’s scary. What folks like Musk, Gates and Zuckerberg (which have more power than our government) want us to stay home and live life virtual. It’s been long term process that has been slowly grooming us for this. Social media is huge disrupter in our lives that have changed us for ever. Having us addicted to cell phones is also part of this grooming. The Patriots Act ushered in us being tracked 24/7. It all adds up. Agitating AI is being touted as something good, but the underlying use is evil and will further enslave us and take away even more freedoms as human beings with a soul.

Crystal I do agree with the part where it would help our children in school, I am actually trying to work with my daughter's school because she is struggling in a class because she isn't able to process the teacher presentation, plus as she speaks and the in class work at the same time. It is too much. We are trying to get the presentations as well as get the permission to record so she can listen later and then be able to put all those together on her level.
