Excellent Bike I had a 97 XR 600 I bought brand new loved it, Since this is an 89 I can almost guarantee you that third gear will go by the time it has 700 trail miles on it. Splitting the cases on this bike is no fun
@@bush600r2 I believe that is the only weak spot on the 89 models, don’t get me wrong,..it’s an excellent Bike I do not know what percentage of the 89 XR600’s had third gear problems
That model was only manufactured for 3 years, 1988, 1989, and 1990. They only made a handful of aftermarket mufflers for it and they're almost ALL used up. Ebay has one used for $350. It was there for a second, then $$$ POOF!

I just bought an 89... It's decently clean but 3rd will jump to neutral....
Was this only a prob with 89 and earlier? I have a 91 and a 94 model. I used to have a 97 model too but sold it. They are great bikes alright

88, 89, and 1990 true dual exhaust headers into one muffler, rarely aftermarket mufflers are available.
No replacement for displacement!!!
